University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

@Fruitygal ah, that’s good to hear! We have not visited Durham and live down south, so hoping an offer day becomes available and will make the trip! Although seems like he will need to rank his college well before that. So will probably put south, Jo Butler, John snow as top 3 (all SC and mainly en-suite and no shared rooms 🤣… ) it’s difficult just looking online, but dd only had online to go by last year before having to firm (happily in first year at Warwick)

mich101 · 01/02/2022 20:27

@Fruitygal just seen your mention of Sheffield… that will be sons insurance choice 👌

SJ1975 · 01/02/2022 20:27

@Fruitygal. Hope your DD enjoys her offer holders day at Sheffield. DH and I have been so impressed each time we have visited. The staff and students have been so welcoming and enthusiastic, and the days have been well organised and really informative. DS is still keen to see Durham but I don't think that he considers Sheffield as some kind of consolation prize if they ultimately reject him. If Durham offer (and he accepts) Sheffield will definitely be his insurance.

Fruitygal · 01/02/2022 20:28

@mich101 we only went because on uk hols close by in Yorkshire last summer - also south so quiet a trek

JemimaMuddledUp · 01/02/2022 20:34

@realynotfair

My DS didn't get good grades last year in 2 x Alevels and a BTEC. He stayed onto college for another year and is predicted distinction in another BTEC that he wants to study at uni. He has 3 offers lower than predicted grades and an unconditional offer at his first choice.

Maybe it's not all about A's but passion for the course. He's very happy!

I'd definitely agree. My eldest DS is at a less competitive university, he had an unconditional offer based on his results in the entrance exam (although his actual results were higher that the typical offer anyway). He is loving the course and the university in general.

It seems so much harder this year with DS2's choices.

Fruitygal · 01/02/2022 20:40

@SJ1975 and @mich101 - we loved Sheffield ! Very different course there for DD and lecturers and kids were super friendly and well organised. What is your son planning on studying @SJ1975

Fruitygal · 01/02/2022 20:43

@JemimaMuddledUp @realynotfair my DS1 and DS2 have graduated but went to middle of the road unis with middle of the road grades and have done very well

SJ1975 · 01/02/2022 21:18

@Fruitygal computer science. What is your DD planning to study?

Fruitygal · 01/02/2022 21:46

@SJ1975 Biological sciences my boys had always thought they would do computer science when they were in their mid teens but they didn't in the end but its a great degree.

Struggling with offer holder days for Swansea and York.
Swansea only seem to do Open days. (Done that)
York is only offering online open days and as it’s mixed honours one is next week and the other April.
Anyone else had any better luck?

beenrumbled · 05/02/2022 13:51

DD has an in person offer holder day at York for March - they offered a choice of virtual or in person. She also has an offer holder day in person at Lancaster next Saturday, and one on the 16th Feb in person at Sheffield.

She had previously been to in person open days at Lancaster and Sheffield, but York were only doing virtual ones last year, she she was happy to see them offer an in person applicant day.

OrangeBlossom28 · 05/02/2022 14:23

@whatsnext2 We've booked an open day as we'd only visited Bay last summer on a turn up and look type thing. It will be the insurance choice so we're going to loom at Singleton too.
It looks like Swansea aren't doing any offer holder days at all.

OrangeBlossom28 · 05/02/2022 14:23

@whatsnext2 are York, we're going on Feb 24th for an offer holder day which I think DD booked on Christmas Day.

Wow, her application wasn’t even in until mid Jan!

OrangeBlossom28 · 05/02/2022 17:19

@whatsnext2 DD's went in end Nov and York took two weeks to respond. Her other offers were in the next day or within three days. Surprisingly quick!

Fruitygal · 06/02/2022 15:39

@whatsnext2 my DD had her form to UCAS in November (school like them in early) we booked in person offer days and went to York on 29th January and we have Sheffield next Saturday.

At the time we booked there were multiple slots for York both in person and online. I would double check with the department about in person offer days - you need to visit a place before choosing (IMO)

Fruitygal · 06/02/2022 15:42

@whatsnext2 has your DC set up their York account and attempted to book on that? They got emails from the uni with their offer one asking to set up an account - you can then see the offer days and book them through this account. Please note York has opened its accommodation portal already. Does not help us as DD needs to hear back from Durham first.

I think so. On further interrogation there were other days showing but she couldn’t book them.

Fruitygal · 07/02/2022 16:01

@whatsnext2 why couldn't she book them was it greyed out or were you doing things on those days ?

threestars · 07/02/2022 17:41

DS submitted UCAS in October. Radio silence from 4 universities, except 'holding' emails; only heard from Cambridge.
Anyone else in this situation?

whatsnext2 · 07/02/2022 18:31

Nothing else came up. She couldn’t even go back to book the second subject as mixed honours.

Fruitygal · 07/02/2022 19:42

@threestars where has he applied ?

threestars · 07/02/2022 20:13

@Fruitygal LSE, UCL, Warwick and Durham.
No safe options Grin so he knows there's possibility of rejection and he has to get the grades, but he and his teachers are confident of this and they thought his personal statement was strong 🤷‍♀️
I know Durham is taking its time with most people. He tells me friends who are getting offers for those places are ones taking 5 A-levels (!) whereas he is taking 4, but I can't imagine that's really the case?

Fruitygal · 07/02/2022 20:20

Wow! No safe options ! But if he’s an outstanding student then he should get something. Only one Durham offer from 18 applicants at DDs school.

Has he chosen economics ?

NinaProudman2022 · 07/02/2022 20:24

DS received an offer from Durham tonight AAA so they are beginning to trickle out slowly.
