@Jng1 did your DC apply to Oxbridge? If so I am interested to know what subject? It's just didn't think they would offer Drama/TV ?

Pumpkintopf · 13/08/2021 14:06

@bendmeoverbackwards best leave now then! 😁

hollypocks · 13/08/2021 14:09

Not been on here for a while but wanted to check back in and thrilled to see such positive outcomes after that depressing day back in January. DS1 very happy to have confirmed place at St As studying MML, luckily his twin also got his first choice at Exeter too (and actually surprised us all with amazing grades that he’d slogged for)
So glad that the double whammy results day is over for us and the double whammy week for many of you too!

Ah - I've just realised I've posted on the wrong thread, haven't I? Grin I was previously following a different Uni 2021 thread, but this is the "not Oxbridge" one isn't it?!

No, (this) DS didn't apply to Oxbridge, although he did look at the Education, English, Drama and the Arts BA at Cambridge but decided it wasn't for him.

chopc · 13/08/2021 14:27

You are more than welcome here @Jng1 . Was just curious what your DC's other path may have been

OP posts:
chopc · 13/08/2021 14:29

Let me know if anyone else wants to be added to the list of destinations and subjects. Don't want to assume

You are more than welcome here *@Jng1* . Was just curious what your DC's other path may have been
Thanks @chopc His other path would have been Drama School really, but although he did well and was offered foundation courses and is on the reserve list for a BA at drama school he has decided his chances are slim and he (in his words) "wants to get on with life and not faff about for another year!"
Eastisup · 13/08/2021 15:00

Thanks @bendmeoverbackwards yes, the Performing arts was a BTEC so technically she had 8 x A's and Distinction , just easier to type 9!
Cause we're in Wales, she had to do Welsh bac and Welsh as although I think Welsh bac is a skills based qualification. She also had to take 4 option choices so it all mounts up! Glad she didn't take the further maths as it would have been 15 then. Too much as it is I think; it's definitely contributed to poor mental health for her and a Camhs admission poor thing. She's taking A levels (5) but will hopefully drop one...I will probably insist she does tbh. She is set on a Dance career as she seems to think she's not academic. Won't be pushing her to a degree if she doesn't want.
I'm all over the shop today as dd1 has just tested positive for c-19 now and we were supposed to be going away on 26th Sad
Right, off to catch up with the rest of the thread!

Eastisup · 13/08/2021 15:04

@derekthe1adyhamster So exciting for him! I can't wait to find out about dd's accomodation....hope UCL aren't as slow as they have been for everything else!

Eastisup · 13/08/2021 15:08

@BigWoollyJumpers, exciting and quite early! I think the UCL term starts on 25th so am assuming that'll be moving day. Had a tearful moment in the supermarket this morning looking at the school lunchboxes and realising I didn't ever need to buy one again for the dd's Sad

Notagardener · 13/08/2021 16:25

Yes dc1 used his dinner jacket from his school proms at uni. I was just thinking what DD would do. I'm guessing her prom dress would not be suitable, out of fashion or some other excuse Grin

Pumpkintopf · 13/08/2021 16:44

Oh no @Eastisup hope dd is not feeling too poorly? Sorry about the impact on your plans- so frustrating and I bet you need a break away.

So glad DH and I had this week off from work - it's been a whirlwind! Currently at IKEA to pick up some bits for DS (chances of him being remotely interested in their lovely storage solutions- minimal to zero) and take DD to look at bedroom furniture. We live in what a lovely lady from IKEA called the 'dead zone' in that we are two hours from the nearest store. Apparently DD has wanted for ages to go to an IKEA - who knew! Anyway we are fortified with meatballs and ready to tackle the market hall Grin

SeasonFinale · 13/08/2021 17:51

I don't know whether anyone is interested (or if a thorn in the side still scroll on by) Cambridge took 49 through adjustment

Pumpkintopf · 13/08/2021 18:19

That is an interesting link @SeasonFinale thanks for sharing.

So if 3,600 students are being admitted those 49 represent 1.36% of all places I think - which reflects the odds involved I guess and makes me feel better!

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/08/2021 18:46

One of my friend’s ds got a whopping FIVE As (in addition to the two As he got last year) 😳😳😳

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/08/2021 18:46

That’s SEVEN A levels.

He’s going to Oxford Grin

Pumpkintopf · 13/08/2021 19:54

Blimey @bendmeoverbackwards !! An embarrassment of riches

SEVEN?!

That's greedy!!!

PS Chapeau to the lad!!!

Pumpkintopf · 13/08/2021 22:22

Anyone have any interest in swapping ideas for what our DCs might need for uni? I know there's a couple of threads running on what to pack so no worries if not.

chopc · 13/08/2021 22:44

Apparently a door stop is a must- I came across this I plan on getting for DS as a going away present

I’ve bought the contents of a first aid kit (well, mostly a hangover kit) and a small sewing kit today!

We will do an IKEA trip once he has his halls confirmed (next Tuesday).

I doubt there’ll be much room for anything in his room though cos he fully intends to take his new Nord organ (electric piano thing, not a euphemism 🤣).
