@MidLifeCrisis007 happy holidays!

Did you read there has been an email from Durham saying college is now not confirmed? In a slight panic here as DS was fully invested in his college
Well DS won't have received it as his old email account doesn't exist. That said, his is likely to be the one of the colleges that students get redirected to! It's big and doesn't feature terribly high on most people's wish list so is likely to have spaces!

But the students there are always a great bunch - and a very broad church compared with other colleges.

Stillcrikey · 10/08/2021 16:34

Ahh, I’ve found you. Thanks for the new thread 😃

I’m so tired now! I really need a nap.

jano69 · 10/08/2021 16:35

DD has also received an email confirming college can't be confirmed until the 16th.

She really wanted Collingwood....

chopc · 10/08/2021 16:49

I am in bed - but too wired to sleep ..... or to enjoy the outside (even though we are confined to our premises)

I guess for Durham parents there is no point stressing - or is an email professing love for their college ok?

A very happy house today. DD is off to Exeter to study Geography and we have all had a lovely, long boozy lunch. Life is good!

321zyx · 10/08/2021 17:42

Haven't checked in for some time, another Durham - History here. DS is away so don't know if he's also received the accommodation email.

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/08/2021 18:28

Thanks for the new thread @chopc and hope everyone is having a good day celebrating.

We were going to go out for a family celebratory dinner tonight but have postponed till tomorrow as dd is seeing a friend tonight.

@SeasonFinale I had an unfortunate incident in Badock Halls car park a few months ago when we did a visit for dd to see the accommodation. I drove into the car park and reversed out as it was too narrow to turn around. I hit a low brick wall WHICH APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE Grin causing quite a bit of damage to my car Sad Please be careful when you drop your ds off!

Looks like not many students are getting their first or second choice of accommodation at Bristol. Maybe dd will be lucky.

@MidLifeCrisis007 how lovely to have some Greek sun! Relax and enjoy every minute.

Well done to your dd @Dobbyisahouseelf and your lunch sounds lovely.
Dobbyisahouseelf · 10/08/2021 18:32

@bendmeoverbackwards Thank you. Just waiting for DD to get ready as she going out to celebrate with friends.

aibutohavethisusername · 10/08/2021 18:33

Well done to all of the students in getting their places. DD was rejected from Oxbridge after interview last year. She has really enjoyed the course at UCL.

olliepolly · 10/08/2021 18:37

Can I also come back into the fold. DS place at Edinburgh for Physics confirmed ( 5 year course !! ) DD2 is about to go into 3rd year Bristol History and in spite of the pandemic has had a fab time and is really enjoying the course . Happy to pass any questions on to her and answer if we can.

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 18:52

@bendmeoverbackwards we are the opposite of you in that DS thought he was out with friends tonight but their families have pulled rank Grin so we get him, which I'm delighted about- have hurriedly and luckily booked the local Thai restaurant which is his favourite.

He went bowling this afternoon with his mates though so that was nice - meanwhile DH and I went for a lovely walk in the late summer sunshine, so beautiful, a part of our local area I hadn't visited before but will definitely go back to.

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 18:53

@MidLifeCrisis007 ooh sounds wonderful!! Love Greece, enjoy - cheers!

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/08/2021 19:05

That sounds lovely @Pumpkintopf and Thai is my favourite too! Have a lovely evening.

chopc · 10/08/2021 19:18

Well friends if we ever get to meet up at mine, Thai is my speciality!

OP posts:
bendmeoverbackwards · 10/08/2021 19:28

Fabulous @chopc Someone once bought me a Thai cookbook but too many ingredients! I do make a good green curry though!

Stillcrikey · 10/08/2021 19:32

That sounds like an invitation @chopc. Count me in 👍🥂

Longtimenewsee · 10/08/2021 20:43

Dd has gone out with friends and I’m suddenly exhausted after so little sleep last night . I’ve got wine and cake ( made Dd an impromptu celebratory cake) . Cheers everyone.

chopc · 10/08/2021 20:52

@Longtimenewsee cheers

Haven't seen DS since just before lunch. Good thing we didn't plan a family celebration

DS is doing Math ( integrated Masters). Accomodation will be released in batches over the next 2 weeks. This is one of the unis with no Clearing or Adjustment places, so I'm expecting it to be full!!

Quiet day, DS was out with friends all day and DH is away overnight for work. Also DD has a Uni exam on Thursday, (deferred from May), so we will celebrate at the weekend.

Notagardener · 10/08/2021 22:11

DC confirmed off to LSE with 3A*

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 22:31

@chopc sounds fabulous!

We're off to London tomorrow for a little look at Imperial- not sure we'll find anyone who can actually show us anything or whether we'd be allowed inside any of the buildings but at least we can have a look at the outside and I'll get a feel for where he's going to potentially be. DS fortunately has previously visited with school pre-covid when they did the space design challenge there so he got to spend the weekend there and feels like he knows it a little bit.

Will be our first London trip since pre-covid days, have missed it!

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 22:32

Congratulations to your dc @Notagardener

Notagardener · 10/08/2021 22:37

Pumkin, dc went few weeks ago, not allowed anywhere inside but still enjoyed looking at her accommodation and LSE buildings.

Pumpkintopf · 10/08/2021 22:42

Ah thanks notagardener I sort of assumed that would be the case but just feel I want to 'be there' in person to get the feel of the place - where his preferred halls are in relation to lectures etc, what's around it, that sort of thing. Probably more for my benefit really! I want to be able to visualise him there and don't find virtual tours do that for me really. Good to hear it was useful for you.
