Accommodation has been accepted and deposit paid. DS got his first choice and he even knows which flat he's in. Apparently, you can see on the portal who you are sharing with once they accept, but we couldn't work out how that worked! Moving in on the 17th...

chopc · 12/08/2021 17:13

How exciting @derekthe1adyhamster

@Revengeofthepangolins

I don’t know *@bendmeoverbackwards* - some of them look as though you might well find them pretty familiar from that period! Where were you in first year?
@Revengeofthepangolins Ramsay Hall on Maple Street. I loved it, made some great friends, the food was good and so close to campus!
bendmeoverbackwards · 12/08/2021 18:26
@Longtimenewsee gosh yes a nap sounds good!!

Thanks everyone - she got 2 grade 7s and 8 grade 8s. Very happy!
Well done to her @Pumpkintopf Fab grades!

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/08/2021 18:28

@Eastisup WOW, what amazing results! She must have done every subject going! My oldest also did a performing arts BTEC, I didn't know you could do it at GCSE level. What are her plans for next year?

Revengeofthepangolins · 12/08/2021 18:28

@bendmeoverbackwards. Ah, from looking at snaps I suspect not a lot has changed at Ramsay since your day, setting aside the funky branding!

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/08/2021 18:32

Great news @derekthe1adyhamster Dd has to wait till next week to find out which accommodation she has been allocated. But I think moving in will be the weekend of 18/19th September.

We had a lovely meal out last night to celebrate. Slightly marred by dd3 (14 and autistic) kicking off and refusing to come. But the four of us went and had a lovely evening.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 12/08/2021 18:34

Goodness this thread has moved fast in just a day! Congratulations to all the GCSE parents and the returnees to the thread.

Thank you to @chopc for the list, it is nice to see where they are all off to and what they will be studying.

Yes we are assuming that Ds will move into Durham the weekend before Freshers but as we live in God's Own Country it is a very easy day trip for us thank goodness Grin I know lots of people on here are probably a lot further south than us so it will be a hell of a trek for them if their DC are at Durham.

mangoguava · 12/08/2021 19:19

Haven’t been on here in a while but DD will be going to Durham to study Law

raspberryrippleicecream · 12/08/2021 20:38

Deposit paid for DS2, he also has his address. Moving in on the 18th Sept... It feels very chilled.

Pumpkintopf · 12/08/2021 23:10

Wow lots of your dc have quite early dates - DS can't move into halls until the 2nd/3rd October! He's keen to get his accommodation allocated so he can hopefully start connecting with some of the people in his halls- the portal thing to allow them to do that sounds good, I hope they have something similar at Imperial.

@Eastisup congratulations to your DD!

chopc · 13/08/2021 09:18

Do your DS's have dinner jackets and if not are you getting them one for Uni? I know in my day it would have got used well but not sure what the dress code is for balls these days

Exeter moving in weekend is 11th/12th so really early. Time seems to be rushing by so quickly. DD already booking fresher events. Has to wait until Monday for accommodation though. She has already made a friend via the History group chat and they are going to meet up for some of the fresher events, which is lovely.

jano69 · 13/08/2021 09:32

Yes he'll need a dinner jacket for Durham @chopc. There were some great outdoor balls this summer so I'm sure that theme will continue if indoor events can't happen. Some students arranged dinner parties in their own houses/rooms as an excuse to dress up when restrictions were tight.

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/08/2021 09:33

That’s great news @BigWoollyJumpers, exciting!

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/08/2021 09:36

I’m looking forward to next week to find out DD’s accommodation and moving in details. It will be a busy time, my oldest dd is also moving out (flat share) but the flat is only part furnished so a trip to IKEA is in order! I was NOT prepared for them moving out at the same time! 😢

jano69 · 13/08/2021 09:40

@BigWoollyJumpers - so exciting that you can start planning for moving in at Exeter. We loved Exeter when we went to the 2019 open day.

chopc · 13/08/2021 10:16

@jano69 thank you

@chopc I have replied in the Durham thread but would recommend Primark or Next for DJs

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 13/08/2021 11:21

Ds is getting a suit for Durham. Both Next and M&S have suits for under £100. Ds has gowned formals at his college providing his college doesn't change.

@BigWoollyJumpers gosh that move is very soon. Gulp.

@bendmeoverbackwards two children moving out at the same time. That must be very hard.

Jng1 · 13/08/2021 12:04

Can I add DS to this list - he's off to Exeter to do Drama & Film/TV.
His accommodation is Lafrowda.

ChimneyPot · 13/08/2021 12:10

The planning is very exciting.
DD should be getting her dorm and roommate assignment by Monday and is moving in to her dorm on 28 August.
The US seem to start much earlier.

@chopc I love your list. DD is indeed “Subject ?”
Brown have an open curriculum so they can do whatever they want and settle on a major in third year.

She plans on doing international relations and economics but will take lots of other random stuff too. Applied maths, poetry, Italian culture through food….

chopc · 13/08/2021 12:14

So leave it as ? Subject or Multiple or whatever takes her fancy? 🤣
