@Dobbyismyabsolutefav yay to the Drama!

Wouldn’t it be funny if they all ended up taking part in the same production! 🎭😂

calculatorqueen · 17/08/2021 15:45

DS has got in Lafrowda (standard room). This was his first choice so is very happy. Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting.

mumsneedwine · 17/08/2021 16:04

@aroundincircles21 and all Bristol people. All the halls have parties (lots of parties), and being in the City is fantastic - no buses home after Spoons😊.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 17/08/2021 16:12

@AvocadoPlant would be very funny. We could all come and watch the production and have a glass of something afterwards.

I wonder if our teenagers will meet up and ask 'has your Mum been on mumsnet and chasing you to check e-mails on offers/accommodation'.

Tenpastseven · 17/08/2021 16:17

Hi all. Good news. DS passed his test 😊

Good to hear the accommodation updates. Getting 1st choice is a bit of a boon isn’t it @bendmeoverbackwards. What choice was Goldney on your DC’s list @aroundincircles21?

Congrats! Another milestone achieved.

DD just got a slightly earlier test, moved from Mid January, to just before Xmas!!

She did have a cancellation alert for this Friday, but her instructor said no Sad.

aroundincircles21 · 17/08/2021 17:18

@tenpastseven. It wan't his first, that was Hiatt Baker but it was 2nd and 3rd. He'd then put other Hiatt Baker options as 4th & 5th.

Woohoo!!! Very well done - bet you're both chuffed to bits!
Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 17/08/2021 17:21

@tenpastseven Well done to your DS.

jano69 · 17/08/2021 17:23

Pleasing to hear lots of good news re accommodation - great to hear bend's DD got her first choice!

Durham have still not confirmed our dc's colleges - we should know by Friday and get £500 compensation if they're reallocated.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 17/08/2021 17:30

@Tenpastseven. Congrats to your newly qualified driver!

DD had a test slot this Thursday but has returned from Boardmasters with Covid. Annoyingly there is no facility to delay your test at short notice. You lose your entire fee at this stage. However if I cancel the test, they get snapped up (even with 48 hours notice) in seconds.

I've contacted the DVLA. They've said they'll reply to my email within 10 working days.

Their policy makes me mad. It is literally encouraging youngsters to show up to tests to avoid forfeiting their fees. It's a disgrace. If you can prove a positive PCR, you really ought to get your fee back.

calculatorqueen · 17/08/2021 17:37

@Tenpastseven Well done to your DS!

jano69 · 17/08/2021 17:50

That's awful @MidLifeCrisis007 - what a shambles to profit from a young person's misfortune knowing full well the parents are footing the bill :(

DD has also returned from Boardmasters with a hacking cough but testing negative. She has completely overdone the partying since results day and is shattered. No doubt she'll bounce back soon.

Well, in this instance it IS our bill not hers, but that's not the case for everyone and the thought of going to the back of the 6 month queue again is an equal deterrent to many!

I'm hearing of lots and lots of positive cases coming out of Boardmasters. DD was testing negative last night, coughed a bit overnight and was positive this morning. Apparently there was a Drums and Base tent that was absolutely heaving - the kids are all talking about the "D&B" variant coming out of Boardmasters as a result!

PCR test done at lunchtime....

chopc · 17/08/2021 18:06

@Tenpastseven congratulations to your DS. It makes a huge difference being able to drive

What bad luck @MidLifeCrisis007 . Hope she has a smooth course of illness

DS sold his Broadmasters ticket as didn't fancy it nearer the time ..... every cloud and that

jano69 · 17/08/2021 18:13

@MidLifeCrisis007 looks like our dc have already crossed paths prior to them starting Durham.

DD did only PCR today so hoping for results tomorrow. Lateral flows are currently negative.

She has her driving test next week so is desperate to get some more lessons in this week... she's had to cancel today's lesson already so thing's aren't looking good.

Congrats to @calculatorqueen's DS.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 17/08/2021 18:22

@jano69 - wrong children crossing paths! DD (17) was at Boardmasters, DS1 (who is Durham bound) spent the weekend at Henley instead!

DS1 has his driving test on bank holiday Monday (30th Aug), having passed his theory test only last Sunday. He suddenly got his backside into gear after realising his younger sister could be driving before him!

Peaseblossum22 · 17/08/2021 18:23

Ds just back from Boardmasters and tested positive this afternoon 🙁

Tenpastseven · 17/08/2021 18:44

Thanks all!

I feel a bit out of the loop gang. What is Boardmasters? Sorry to hear that they are testing positive afterwards.

@aroundincircles21, those are the same choices as I think my DS is going to put. Hiatt Baker (SC) and Goldney.

I saw this on Twitter.... made me laugh out loud!

"Judging by the state of the portaloos at Boardmasters I would be more worried about catching cholera than Covid"

SeasonFinale · 17/08/2021 19:22

DS is in Badock (3rd choice) and has booked his move in slot for 15 September (the earliest day he can check in - clearly chomping at the bit to get there).

A friend is in the same block and floor and 2 people he met travelling are there too. Another friend is in a shared room in Wills which was not one of their 9!!

AvocadoPlant · 17/08/2021 19:41

I know it isn’t the same, but DD joined a new school for sixth form (boarding) and found herself sharing a room with 3 girls she’d never met before. It’s a great way to meet people - though I appreciate it’s not going to be your first choice at 18/19.

Notagardener · 17/08/2021 19:44

Not heard of Broadmasters either, but like Midlifecrisis dc1 was also at Henley

Oh dear sorry to hear that! Awaiting DD's PCR result with bated breath....
