Where are your DC still waiting to get offers (or rejections Sad ) from?

All offers are in here, except for... LSE.

DC not expecting to hear until March. It is going to be a long wait.

That's a great offer. Exciting times!

Newgirls · 23/02/2020 10:03

Just got to get the grades hog 👍

hattymattie · 25/02/2020 14:58

Offer finally from Edinburgh - but higher than he would have had, had he got into Cambridge. Still we are EU so it would be very cheap...
Still waiting on UCL.

DS got his final offer from Durham last week, no college allocation yet, but they've not offered him the course he applied for - they've offered on a slightly different course (higher grades required) which he is forecast to get, but not the course he wants to do, so it's probably off his list now anyway. Strange they gave a different course - never heard of that before.

Needmoresleep · 25/02/2020 17:47

User...the "Tesco substitution"!!!

DS got this at Warwick, as did the brother of one of DDs friends. Durham are known for it.

I am not sure why they do it. Surely good students have applied for a course because this is the course they want to take. I guess if he really keen he could write back and ask about scope to be transferred in the summer if he meets his grades and others don't, or equally whether he has a fairly automatic right to switch at the end of his first year if he gets the right grades and has chosen the right options.

cheeseandpineapple · 25/02/2020 22:17

User, what did your son apply for and what was he offered by Durham if you don’t mind saying?

Dearover · 25/02/2020 22:29

New ABB! DD would have loved that as a back up. Ho hum. Back to working through other scenarios now..

Theworldisfullofgs · 25/02/2020 22:38

Dearover

Sorry I missed this. She has offers from KCL, York and Sussex (which was her insurance). She really wants LSE ... still not heard...

Theworldisfullofgs · 25/02/2020 22:40

She got three offers really quickly...then nothing...

Dearover · 26/02/2020 09:49

They'll start to move soon though & hopefully there will be better news than DD had. I think it gave DD a bit of a reality check. She knew in her heart that a 4 year course in Scotland was pushing it a bit, but now she has proof that she's not always going to get exactly what she wants.

Theworldisfullofgs · 26/02/2020 11:05

dearover your dd got other good offers...and you are right about your silver lining...

Maladicta · 27/02/2020 20:41

Still nothing from Warwick Hmm

Ds is mid mocks so not thinking about it too much.

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 27/02/2020 22:28

Unconditional offer in today from Edinburgh for DS. (Fine Art.) Big relief as he only applied to two places. Hmm

TeaAndStrumpets · 28/02/2020 18:11

Good offer from Edinburgh for History, no word yet from Durham.

Theworldisfullofgs · 28/02/2020 18:15

Still nothing. It's dd's birthday on Monday so she thinks she'll hear then and it'll be a no. Trying to keep her positive.

Needmoresleep · 28/02/2020 19:42

I will confess that when we were into March and DS was still waiting on UCL, LSE and Warwick I phoned up anonymously and asked how much longer the wait was going to be. I explained that he had applied in October and that with mocks, A level preparation, and his friends all talking about accommodation options, the stress was starting to get to him.. and I as a mum wanted to be able to support him. I did get clear "final decisions will be made by" answers.

It's a few years back now, but the wait was grim. Best wishes to all the DC who ate waiting. DS came away with one offer and two rejections, but it was the one he wanted most so all came good in the end.

hen10 · 28/02/2020 20:05

Waiting on London College of Fashion. DD sent portfolio ages ago - it's not her preferred choice but I wish they'd just decide either way so we can get on. She doesn't want to withdraw but we'll need to if they don't get on with it because of accommodation opening on her first choice on a first come first served basis.

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 28/02/2020 22:48

Still waiting on Duncan and Jordonstone. Portfolio has been in since January. Have heard of a couple of conditional offers for the course DS wants to do so thinking he's probably not going to get anything from them.

Changingforthisthread · 02/03/2020 22:16

Standard History offer from Durham came through today but no college allocation yet.

CatherineCawood · 02/03/2020 22:21

Sussex offered v quickly, even giving option of lower grades if accepted as firm choice.

UCL took ages, only heard last few days and got rejected due to GCSE results? 2 x9 6x8 1x7 thought it would have been good enough. A'Level predictions are A* A A

Theworldisfullofgs · 03/03/2020 10:40

What does your DC want to study at UCL?

ClerkMaxwell · 03/03/2020 11:14

Still waiting for St Andrew although some offers have come out for her subject (economics). Hoping to be still on the "maybe" pile. She worries even if she does get an offer that she'll be the bottom of the heap academically so might be better taking up an offer elsewhere. Do late offer students do less well on the competitive courses?

Avocadosontoast · 03/03/2020 14:33

We're wondering the same. My ds is still waiting for one more offer, from a very highly ranked course in his subject, and he feels that being a 'waiting list' candidate probably doesn't put him in the best position in relation to everyone else. He's tempted to firm one of his other offers on that basis.

Dearover · 03/03/2020 17:54

I really hope not, as DD's rejection for PPE at Edinburgh came after her offer from Oxford, so I'm hoping she's not that crap!

ClerkMaxwell · 03/03/2020 18:39

Well done to your DD with the Oxford offer. DD did a summer school with PPE applicants last year and said the competition was very strong. Some of the kids had been preparing for Oxbridge since starting secondary school!

Edinburgh is DDs backup choice! Agreed not top of the league tables but DD loves the city and the course options.
