Where are your DC still waiting to get offers (or rejections Sad ) from?

All offers are in here, except for... LSE.

DC not expecting to hear until March. It is going to be a long wait.

Congratulations on the Politics and IR offer at LSE. We are in the same boat but with UCL. DS despondent.

ofteninaspin · 18/03/2020 13:41

And still waiting (with dwindling hope) on St A’s.

daisychicken · 19/03/2020 12:29

St Andrews have cancelled the course ds was waiting to hear back from.. unfortunately was his top choice as the only university to do that particular course. He's settled on Manchester aa his new top option and 🤞 crossed he will be ok with grades..

BubblesBuddy · 19/03/2020 13:33

A few years ago DD never did hear from Brighton. She rejected them at the end of April! Useless. She had her interview (arts subject) in February and the course was still recruiting when she rejected them. She assumed she was rejected. She needed to apply for accommodation at her firm choice so no point in waiting for a university that was so disorganised.

During the interview they also criticised dd for not visiting the university on an open day! "You would have known the answer to that question if you had visited us on an open day". I actually complained to them about that comment. It took us hours to get to Brighton, it was expensive to park, the interview time was delayed by over 2 hours so we needed lunch and more parking and no apology at all for this. I also pointed out that schools restrict visits to universities in school time and poorer parents really struggle to fund all these visits. Many DC leave visits until interview or offer days. This was a truly awful experience.

The interviewing lecturer also criticised her for applying with A levels and not via a foundation course. The course information clearly said they accepted A level students and they were interviewing her after she submitted a portfolio. Total shambles and rude. She simply could not imagine studying with this man. I hope they have improved in the meantime.

Finally a rejection from St A. Timing a bit rubbish as it was an emotional last day at school and last shift at work for some time. However nothing in the big scheme of things. I think she will be happy with her second choice (Edinburgh).

Localher0 · 21/03/2020 08:09

Aw that's a big disappointment but happy she's happy with Edinburgh. My DS was rejected from Edinburgh the day after the announcement. I am hearing anecdotal tales from his school that those still waiting on offers all got rejections by Friday. Bearing in mind this is a super selective grammar so grades won't have been an issue I think Unis were put in an untenable position and had to just close offers down. My DS has now firmed up one of his others and is happy to move on.....

Alittlewornout · 21/03/2020 08:26

Sorry to hear of the disappointments @ClerkMaxwell and @Localher0. I am a great believer that they will thrive wherever they go. I agree I think unis are now in a very difficult position Good luck to both your DC.

ClerkMaxwell · 21/03/2020 10:05

@Localhero, DD was lucky to get an early offer from Edinburgh as like your DS, school friends still waiting on Edinburgh all got rejections on Thursday. DDs school (top 20 Scottish state) doesn't have much luck with StA - one conditional offer in total.

Positive side is that DDs prelims and subsequent class tests were good so her calculated grades should be As. One of her friends who has two medicine offers isn't in such a good position so hoping they will be kind.

Good luck to your DC.

Theworldisfullofgs · 21/03/2020 19:52

Edingburgh is meant to be brilliant so I do hope your dd is happy there ClerkMaxwell and sorry LocalHero.
It's all a bit weird.
And again to daisy. If it's any consolation my friends son went to Manchester after being rejected by Cambridge. State school kid, held down a job, played in a football team and went on to get 5×A* at A level. Grin. He loves it and has been picked to go to do a year at UCLA Berkley.
Sometimes things work out for the best.

ellanwood · 22/03/2020 08:03

DS just withdrew from StA. He was so sick of waiting to hear from them and being unable to firm up an offer and start sorting accommodation. I think the slow unis will miss out this year. LSE won't have their vast intake of overseas students due to Covid-19, and their sluggishness in sending out UK offers might mean people panic and firm up other choices.

ellanwood · 22/03/2020 08:05

@daisychicken - what course was that?

daisychicken · 22/03/2020 08:32

@ellanwood - Computer Science and Psychology. He officially accepted Manchester yesterday so hopefully we can look into accommodation etc properly now.

BubblesBuddy · 22/03/2020 08:52

Many universities don’t open accommodation applications until the end of April though. Waiting until now for an offer is fine as accommodation would still be there if it’s guaranteed to all freshers. Seems early to worry to me. End of April would be more concerning.

ellanwood · 22/03/2020 09:11

That's interesting. DS was looking at a combined psych course at StA too. Maybe they were scaling back the department before deciding how many offers to make. It is getting late...

DS2 still no news from UCL or LSE Hmm

hattymattie · 22/03/2020 13:37

Ellanwood - we are still waiting on UCL. Not holding put much hope now but DS did get a holding letter in Thursday.

Maladicta · 23/03/2020 16:56

And still waiting Angry

ellanwood · 23/03/2020 18:09

@hattymattie - what is a holding letter? Nothing from UCL here at all. And nothing from LSE either. So frustrating! I don't hold out much hope privately for weither of them. UCL he's less bothered about as it focuses (according to him) on UK Gov policy-making and his interest is mainly in IR-related politics. But he'd love LSE.

He has Kings though, and that is a stunning course with an optional year in USA or Japan. So even if it ends up being the only offer he gets, it's a good one.

hattymattie · 23/03/2020 18:57

Ellanwood - it was the letter saying they are going to try to make fair decisions despite the current situation. Then the last paragraph - hopefully everything will be normal by the time you get to campus (even though we haven't actually had an offer) Confused

ellanwood · 24/03/2020 10:06

Just heard from UCL last night - an offer! Phew! His third choice, but a lower offer than Kings so it's a good back up.

hattymattie · 24/03/2020 10:50

Ellanwood such good news. We still have radio silence. I suspect UCL would be his first choice, although he's keen on Edinburgh for which we have an offer.

ofteninaspin · 24/03/2020 11:25

Rejection for a joint degree at St A’s here. DS will now insure Bristol or Durham (where accommodation is guaranteed for insurance offer holders). We are mindful that if it ends up being a bulge year at some unis, accommodation may be greatly oversubscribed. Although this might be mitigated by overseas students staying away?

ellanwood · 24/03/2020 15:59

@ofteninaspin - I was really concerned about over-offers until my DC pointed out that there will be a massive shortfall in students from overseas.

hattymattie · 24/03/2020 18:16

UCL Offer at long last. Smile

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/03/2020 18:35

Nothing from Heriot-Watt (applied in Nov) they said 3 weeks ago that she’d hear soon but obviously it’s got chaotic since then. Emailed yesterday to ask before she cancels it. Picking Edinburgh for first choice

ellanwood · 24/03/2020 23:34

@hattymattie - that's great news. I'm glad for your DC.
