General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

you looked as though you only needed to lose about 3 lb avi

will you definitely lose job? why?

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 18/07/2010 08:57

Well done Avi!!! 10 something about job and back though. Hope job situation works out for the best.

Great news about DS2 Fran(who can't possibly be 2. That's absurd ) DS has just gone to bed without me for, I think, the second time! And I was in the house and he didn't cry for ages or anything. I'm going away for a whole weekend in January so thought we'd better start practicing.

(Had a sneaky weigh this morning. Need to eat nothing and run miles today )

morning
yes ds2 is really 2, it's his birthday today, although when asked says he is 6
he is having a nice day and we are going to see some chickens later at the animal sanctuary (he is very keen on chickens) and then eat cake at a posho organic tea rooms i have googled

avi i don't know what my goal is
i wanted to lose a stone initially, which i did, then i thought another 6 lb would be about right, and i am nearly there, but everything still wobbles round my middle
if i go below 9 st i get the gaunt thing like guad said - it's a fine line - my arms and legs start looking too thin really easily but i can't do much about that
i look more in proportion when i am fairly thin all over
i think i need to lose another few lb maybe but mostly to exercise and gain some muscle and tone up
there is a 5 mile race at the end of august, dp thinks i should do it, what do you think? am scared frankly but would love to do it

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 18/07/2010 11:17

oh so far the furthest i have run is 4 miles
what do you think, is 5 doable by the end of august?

ooh hello avi
that sounds very exciting indeed
i have been out feeding goats and eating fab chocolate ice cream
local ice cream dontchaknow

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 18/07/2010 18:46

Happy Birthday ds2

Yes do the race. What an achievement it will be when you cross the finishing line.

We were in your neck of the woods today Fra. I was v tempted to pop round and say hello, but then remembered it was ds2 birthday, and I also can't remember what number you lived at

Kids love chickens don't they? DS adores them. The IL's keep them (and ducks) and he spends ages down the bottom of the garden with them.

I have been eating REALLY badly all weekend and I have a headache today. That will learn me.

CoupleofKooks · 18/07/2010 18:55

oh hello lemur! we were at mistley, it was very nice but we are all knackered now
ds2 is a terrible chicken botherer
he also harrasses crows

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 19/07/2010 07:43

morning, i have not lost this week after all! was 3 lb down at one point during the week
but horrendous amounts of food were consumed over the weekend so am not terribly surprised

sign in chaps

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 19/07/2010 07:51

Yes Fran! Do the race!! Do it do it do it! It's great when you have something to aim for.

Avi, my goal was 10 st which is where I am now, but when I got there I decided I could do with losing another half stone (mainly I thought that while I was on a roll, I might as well lose a bit more so that I have leeway for hols and Christmas when I'm bound to put some on!!) However, I've lost my focus. I'm no longer on a roll.

And I've put on 1lb this week

So this week I think I need to list. I have just done 10 mins or so of yoga and I'm running tonight and Thurs with a friend. I'm swimming on Wed and will aim to do my Tae Bo video on Tues and at the weekend. And I must start vegging. Cause I have been rubbish!

I need some serious arse-kicking if I don't hit at least 7 a day please.

James and the Giant Peach sounds fun! We went to see Going on a Bear Hunt as Christmas. It was wonderful! I need to look out for something again this year I think.

Right. I will check in tonight to list.

CoupleofKooks · 19/07/2010 07:53

yes let's list, i would have been ashamed to list this weekend
pink are you sure about the race? what if it is hot? it's the end of august, at 10.30 am, and i cannot stand the heat at all

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 19/07/2010 08:01

Can't second guess the heat! My May 10k nearly killed me Just go for it. Even if you walk some on the day, you'll have done it and seriously, the extra mojo it gives you having something to aim for is priceless.

Just to give you a snapshot of my week, yesterday's list would've included bacon and egg sandwich on brown oaty bread with ketchup, steak, king prawns and chips, and a little bit of DD's ice cream (which whilst better than having my own, was a bit piggy!)

I haven't been to that farm in Mistley Fra, it sounds good. Did you walk along the estuary, feed the swans and have an ice-cream? From there if you squint and look across the estuary, you can see my childhood home.

Sorry to hear about the back Avi, it sounds awful. I hope it gets better soon. Do you know what it is that triggers it?

I have lost focus too. I just can't stop eating, or if I'm not eating I'm thinking about food . I don't think it helps that my period is due any day now.

Banana
1 rich tea biscuit
2 ryvita with cream cheese, grapes, olives, cherry toms and cucumber sticks
slice of choc cake.
Thai green curry
strawberries and raspberries

I have also been a miserable cow today, I feel sorry for ds tbh. His behaviour has been pretty shocking too but I know that it's because he's been channeling my mardyness.

Ah well, tomorrow is another day and we've got some chums coming round to play in the morning.

CoupleofKooks · 19/07/2010 21:16

aw lemur that sounds rotten
was it anything in particular or just a general crap day?
the animal place is funny really
it is so ramshackle, they are not running a proper business, just trying to make ends meet for the animal sanctuary, and there are animals wandering about everywhere and the whole place in a bit of disrepair
kids love it of course

we went to the mistley quay cafe which i think is fairly new, i hadn't been before
they make their own organic bread and things like that; the food was lovely but the service was awful
they brought our lemon tart with ice cream then spent 5 mins faffing about before we got any cutlery, during which time we sat and watched our ice cream melting
the cutlery was apparently dirty, so they talked for a while wrt what to do about this
then they washed it very slowly, and dried it very slowly, then brought it to us very slowly
it was still dirty
they were very cheerful and well-meaning about it all, so you couldn't really be pissed off, but it was rather infuriating

we looked out of the window at the swans inc 2 black swans

avi so sorry about your back
i am not sure how you are managing with dp away - i suppose ds won't let you starve and he isn't the over excitable bouncing sort of child so it could be a lot worse
what will happen though? did it go away in the past or will you have to do something to make it better? you know now that they say take serious painkillers and exercise until it is better, but i think i would hit anyone who told me that while i had a bad back

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 19/07/2010 21:18

pink what did you do to train for the 10k? there is no way i could do that distance but i think maybe i can do 5 miles
did you do intervals or just long runs? i went out today but it was too hot and i had a stitch again
i think i did 1.5 to 2 miles, not very impressive

OP posts:
ThePinkOne · 19/07/2010 22:03

Cafe sounds glorious CoK

I did intervals, I think. Or I did from lazy to get to 5k again. Then added distance on but realised I was going too slow, then did intervals to get my speed improved a bit IYSWIM. I was plodding too much and did better running and walking than shambling! I only did 10k once, then arsed it up on the day

So, list for today.

10 mins yoga and warm water with lemon juice.
Yoghurt, raisins, blueberries, melon, apple, 1/2 kiwi, plum. 4 portions.
Small (really tiny) piece leftover quiche.
Half a roll of cheese on toast with chilli jam. Salad (carrot, tomato, cuc, lettuce, rocket, sweetcorn). 3 portions and bonus points for lettuce and roacket from the garden
Roasted veg with chilli sauce, potato and cheese bake. (Not ideal diet food but using up leftovers.) Small piece of friend's chocolate cake It was gorgeous! 3 portions.
2 mile run.
More melon and blueberries. 2 portions
2 black coffees, 3 large glasses water (aiming to balance out coffee with water!) and a pint of squash.

Not bad. Deffo at least 10 portions.

CoupleofKooks · 19/07/2010 22:28

how did you arse it up pink? you bloody did 10k woman! in the midday sun! that is not arsing it up

your list is v good
esp yoga and warm water and lemon juice, v good indeed

ok
cereal mango gooseberries apple milk raisins seeds = 4
brown and wild rice, with corn and quorn, cooked in this lovely stocky salty silky way dp does it = 1
satsuma = 0.5
chocolate
bit of cereal bar, babybel
salad, avocado, cos, cuc, peppers tomatoes, chickpeas, eggs, cheese, quite a lot of mayo, leftover rice = 3
chocolate ice cream in a cone

8.5

2 mile run (i am rounding it up )
walked quite a lot
went to baby dance class and joined in

this led to ds2's longest sentence ever to date
the baby dance class is called rather appallingly 'dinky boppers'
dp was taunting us about this, and ds2 said indignantly "dinky boppers is not funny, is it daddy, oh no, I DON'T FINK SO"
cue us all repeating this all afternoon, the poor chap

there was a lot going on to roll your eyes at tbh, there was a braying old lech in the corner who kept going on about getting into bed with the spice girls, at the top of his voice

i have had a great day at being a good mother
i nearly always do something stupendously crap during the 24 hours (which of course in my mind completely negates anything decent i might have achieved) but not today
actually perhaps i speak too soon, they are not both asleep, but it's gone well so far anyway

cereal redcurrants passion fruit apple raisins tangerine seeds soya milk = 3.5
half a cheese muffin with butter
pea risotto with cheese, broccoli and carrots = 3
g+b's espresso chocolate
pumpkin ravioli with pesto, cheese, kidney beans, sweetcorn, and cabbage = 3

too much cheese
as usual

am reading fan fiction
am i 12

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/07/2010 20:20

Yum, that looks like a yummy list Fra.

Off on a bit of a tangent, but what did you think of the frozen risotto from Waitrose? I noticed it this week and also saw the big packs of frozen stuffed pasta. Have you tried that as well?

What is Fan Fiction? I have never heard of it.

I'm reading The Girl Who Played With Fire, the second book in the Millennium trilogy. It's bloody brilliant and I can't put it down.

I'll join you Fra and I'll be smug about my parenting today too A good day has been had by all.

How's the back Avi?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/07/2010 20:25

Oh yeah, and here's my list

banana and cornflakes
olives, cucumber sticks, cherry toms and a Subway sandwich that dh surprised me with.
2 nectarines
Toad in the hole with peas and green beans
strawberries and raspberries

10 portions
