For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

And she got 2 certificates in assembly today.
Oh and they sang a song abou tthe planets and one of the lines was abpout Uranus being at the bottom and I got the (inappropiate) giggles and another line about Big ball and my friend started giggling and we were so Not Grown Up

knot, no I have not told anyone I participate in 10/10 on a parenting message board. Do you think I am nutz?

kelpie, in order to manage 10 you need to stop eating lots of other stuff and eat fuhs and vuhs instead. Cauchemar. I've not managed it so far

bunny, hope you had a nice time with ds. I have a girls' night planned with the dds for tonight. We will be watching 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging'.

TigerFeet · 12/06/2009 17:49

My f&v eating has taken a pretty bad turn, after a great start to the week. I'm not managing to eat more than 4 or 5 portions a day atm. I'm stuffing in those carbs but I still haven't put on any weight at 6 months up yon duff. I suppose I shouldn't complain really

SB I hope you enjoyed your evening. I am secretly pleased you didn't make a card

LR DD has precisely one gogo

Much ing to be done today, it would appear

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 12/06/2009 18:46

sultanns
carrots
apple juice
broccoli, peas, carrots
tomatoes and fennel (0.5)

TigerFeet · 12/06/2009 18:55

It would seem I was far to busy ing to do a on Moll's behalf. I meant to do a . I am on your behalf, what a load of rubbish.

Ooooh and I meant to say hello to OsBa too. Hello Osba

Emoticontastic.

My brain is dribbling out of my ears. I find the dripping noise quite diverting tbh.

ahundredtimes · 12/06/2009 19:03

you feel over-full on a 0.5 portion of fennel?

is the meet up this weekend then? I thought it was next month. I did.

Moll, how awful. I cried with the headmaster once, and he looked at me like I was an alien. Was v. annoying. And it means you talk proper either, and then they give you pitying smiles and you want to kick them HARD. How was the ed psych visit. Will she help do you think?

orange juice
apple
whole box of cherries

that's not great is it? I haven't eaten tonight yet, perhaps I'll get a seven portions in then. Also dh and I have been on this diet for 7 weeks, and he has lost two stone fgs. TWO stone. I have lost 7lbs. Is making me competitive and scratchy not to mention HUNGRY.

CKelpie · 12/06/2009 19:06

Hello TooTicky

I'm sorry, I didn't really introduce myself just crashed the party and demanded f&v tips.

I'm a mum to one ds, he is nearly 10 and we don't live with his father. I work full time, am studying in the evenings. I was getting into running quite a bit but strained the ligaments in my ankles last December so had to stop hence the need to lose some weight now.
I swear too much and used to indulge a habit for red wine and blue cheese but have even cut that out these days.

Am a little at the idea of eating nothing but fucking rabbit food F&V all the time but willing to give it a go.
Cauchemar indeed.
2 apples
a pineapple
houmous
so far

pointydog · 12/06/2009 19:06

I am full on all the other stuff that I do not list. Like cheesy potatoes, 2 finger rolls I should have resisted and quite a bit of garlic bread.

I should start listing everything I've eaten in a day. That would cut down on my pork life.

mollyroger · 12/06/2009 19:12

ah 100. The ed psych was lovely and this was supposed to be her and me and the school thrashing it out. But she had to cancel the meeting at last minute and then I went all wrong.
Seriously, without trying to be kind or nice to me, that is a shitty idea, the emotional blackmail thing, isn't it? It's not just me???

mollyroger · 12/06/2009 19:12

I almost want to do a AIBU thread, but I need to be careful not to be too identifible in rL.

ahundredtimes · 12/06/2009 19:13

Hello CK. What job do you do? I think you do get to eat other things than F&V - please note Pointy's cheesy potatoes for instance - but is a job to cram it all in too. Franny's top tip is to have lots of fruit for breakfast.

SuperBunny · 12/06/2009 19:13

Oh Molly, how horrible.

mollyroger · 12/06/2009 19:14

OSBA?? where?

ahundredtimes · 12/06/2009 19:20

yes darling heart - it's a really lame idea. And actually a desperate one when when you think about it.

I think standing shoulder to shoulder with the school is a good idea, but they're going to have come up with a better approach aren't they? It's the same she wasn't there - it would have been a helpful meeting if she'd been there probably.

pointydog · 12/06/2009 19:21

you know, I would find it really interesting to read what top fruiters ate in one day. Everything, not just the fuhs and vuhs. To see just how you cram it in.

Mind you, the lists would get ridiculously long. Moll's fuhhvvv one alone was crazily long.

ahundredtimes · 12/06/2009 19:23

Though also I don't have a problem with telling dc's that they are responsible for their anger, not anyone else. That they should make an effort to know that, that there are alternatives to kicking off. That when they do kick off violently it has a huge impact on the environment they are in and the people around them. There's sympathy, and then there's a line too. IYSWIM. This may be unfashionable, especially for this thread.

I think when you meet with ed psych she might hopefully come up with a middle path for the school and you to adopt. I hope so anyway.

mollyroger · 12/06/2009 19:24

well today I didn't really have lunch. breakfast was marmite on seedy toast and my graze box was 2 of my portions. And supper is a mahooosive salade niscoise. And everything else was me snacking on fruit to avoid filling up with cake in my misery

pointydog · 12/06/2009 19:28

wow, you eat so healthily.

Your school meeting sounds very stressful.

ahundredtimes · 12/06/2009 19:31

btw I don't think that last post is the answer to your problems, not at all, it's much more complex than that. I wouldn't say that to dd either, but I have said that to my more tempestuous ds's. I have never said, 'you are making mommee cry' and would certainly hope never to do so!

I hope you understood what I meant there - was about working with ds and with school, for his part he has to accept that he is responsible for his anger, and the school and you have to work with him to help manage it etc.

This is VERY good on anger triggers and knowing feelings and finding alternatives. Honestly, and much easier than that other book. V. child friendly. www.amazon.co.uk/Stick-Up-Yourself-Personal-Self-Esteem/dp/1575420686/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid =1244831479&sr=8-1

FrannyandZooey · 12/06/2009 19:34

well i've had the crappest f+v week probably since records began, but on a usual day i would have eg

oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, apple, melon, berries, soya milk = 4

peanut butter + banana sandwich = 1

kidney bean, carrot, sweetcorn, leek and mushroom stew, with dumplings = 3 or 4

yogurt with grapes, prunes and banana = 3

11 or 12

Kelpie have you got a small appetite / small build? if so i would pare down all your portions so you are having 10 small portions of f+v, plus your pasta and stuff
i don't think you should JUST be eating f+v and not much else

TooTicky · 12/06/2009 19:35

100x, you sound all different today.
