I know it's Sunday morning an d all that but I have been up all night and my symptoms are freaking me out.

I had piles when I was pregnant, they were painful and bled a little, but that was almost 3 years ago.

Last night I had nasty stomach cramps, diarrhoea and then massive amounts of bleeding from my bottom, including clots . I felt really weak and went to bed. I woke up at about 3am and more lower back pain and cramps, lots more blood loss and no poo, at this point I thought I was going to pass out.

This morning, more blood although less of it, lots of lower back pain, no poo.

I dont think I have external piles, and I was wondering if this sounds "normal" for piles?

Im sorry its so early but really could do with some advice. As you can imagine...a trip to the docs if its not necessary is the last thing I want to do.

(I'm finding myself inexplicably worried about a total strangers bottom...... )

BlaDeBla · 31/03/2009 19:19

I hope you're ok, MoreSpam. When I finally went to the gp (after A&E twice), the doc phoned straight through to the hospital, and I didn't come home for another 10 days. A lot of that time was to develop cultures. Yum yum.

cocolepew · 31/03/2009 19:26

Jus to say that this can be piles because my DH has these symptons, on and off, including lower back pain. He loses what loks like pints of blood, including clots. His last bout came at the same time a a dose of the runs. He went to the Dr's to be sure and he had a fissure, which caused even more bleeding. 2 years ago he had the camera up and there were no nasties.

I recommend anyone with unusal bleeding to go to their Dr, but it's not always bad news

ThingOne · 31/03/2009 20:28

Tee hee, orangina. MoreSpam, you'll have to go to bed without a story if you don't tell us.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 31/03/2009 20:56

Hello everyone, Im sorry, I really didnt expect anyone to be here waiting for news! How lovely you all are.

Well, went to the docs and he didnt examine me because I have had external piles before and dont have them now, I told him a few other symptoms and he said I may also be anaemic .

Anyway - he sent me straight off for blood test and abdo x-ray. He mentioned the fissure thing as cocolepew just did. (My grammar is awful...).

Anyway, need to ring next Tuesday and book appointment to see him and get results back.

Thats all folks...not much else to say, which is a good thing right?

Having said that, the radiographer was a bit odd and took quite a few x-rays. Went off between each one, then moved the xray machine and took another. Ive only had a chest and leg xray, so maybe its quite usual.

Anyway - I went to Waitrose and stocked up on fibre rich foods and have been guzzling water like a good'un. I'm sure it will all be fine, it's probably just a burst internal pile eh?

Having said that, more bleeding today, still hellish back pain and shattered.

Can I also add, that a handful of total strangers worrying about you, to the point of checking in the next day makes me realise how flippin great Mumsnet really is..

ThingOne · 31/03/2009 21:01

Hope it turns out to be something that's easy to deal with and not too painful.

Get chomping on those dried apricots - great source of iron and help "soften the stool".

If your results are anaemic, ask if you can have ferrous fumarate rather than ferrous sulphate. It is more expensive than the latter but doesn't make you constipated and didn't hurt my tummy (although it still hurts some people's).

Thank goodness you've got the investigations under way now. Hope it is something very simple and really easily solvable (if that's a word!).
Good luck x

Thanks for the update, MoreSpam! It sounds horrible. I hope you are able to get at least some rest.

I lost about a stone very quickly. It went back on just as fast, and still hasn't gone

Operation bum watch continues, looking forward to hearing the results of tests. Must say I am concerned at your symptoms, I do hope your doctor is thorough and taking your bottom situation seriously.
