For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hope the concert was fabulous.

New Thread Title suggestion?:

"Last night I heard my mama singing a song, oooee chicky chicky chick pea

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 13:37

Am particularly pissed off I think because as people go, we do try quite hard. I mean, we certainly care about her getting there and being on time. Whereas some people really don't. So it is galling to feel toldoff.
AND, if people are having big problems leading to serious attendance ishoos, the attitude taken by the authorities is just not helpful.
It is patronising and...just...well, annoying. Disrespectful probably.
Oh ggggrrrrr.

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 13:38

Hello Wombling

womblingalong · 08/04/2009 13:42

Hello TooT,

Lots of stickers for your eating earlier in the thread, can you email me again, my DH has deleted a whole load of my emails by mistake, not his, and I need email addy's again.

What is the EWC? Sounds bad whatever, it seems unfair if the bus was late repeatedly, and other must also have been late non?

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 13:54

Thanks.
Education Welfare Officer. Lates count as unauthorised absences or something.
Will email...

Guadalupe · 08/04/2009 14:42

Sounds very annoying, Toot. If there is just the one bus then she can only arrive at a certain time can't she, or do they think she should be getting an earlier one? I don't suppose they run regularly where you are?

I used to get a bus when we lived near Southwold. It was only twelve miles but it was so SLOW. We had to catch it at a stupid time.

Vegi sushi and more chickpea salad.

nickytwotimes · 08/04/2009 14:49

Hello hello all.

I have been without t'interweb for a few days, but been laid up with sore throat/snot/flueyness anyway and not up to anything anyway.

Just popping on briefly to say hi. I have been keping up the veggie/fruity eating anyway. Very soothing on the old throat at least.

Hopefully be back to normal in a few days in time for Easter.

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 16:05

Guad, we picked a school we are not in the catchment area for, so provided transport doesn't cater for our village. Service bus is hourly. We have been driving her since Christmas.

Hello N2x, sorry you've not been well.

littlerach · 08/04/2009 16:37

TooT, could she pick up school transport from village starting with H between M and BoA?

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 17:15

Possibly. She could pick it up from village starting with K but would be complicated on way home. Also, they would want payment up front for a whole term. Tis free for those in catchment
And she would be lowest priority for a place.

littlerach · 08/04/2009 18:03

Can you not get help with transport costs at secondary level?

It i scrazy, you'd think they'd want to assist students, especially as part of their travel plan

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 18:09

Not unless you are on certain benefits.
But see really, we should have sent her to GW...she would have had guaranteed free place on bus, door to door...

littlerach · 08/04/2009 18:20

Yes but then she'd be at GW!!!!!

I wonder if St L would do free transport? I guess not if out of area.

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 18:30

Precisely.
And you have to be catholic for StL I think. And yes that would be out of catchment. More than C I think.

stuffitllama · 08/04/2009 18:59

hi womble will check! thank you

Toot this is awful. Lates are unauthorised absences? But that puts the responsibility back on the parent. Surely they MUST understand you have difficulties.

It's not dd's fault anyway. But I thought the late issue at secondary is about personal responsibility ie they are old enough to get themselves to school on time. So a. they should try to understand your problem and b. if you didn't have this perfectly good explanation it shouldn't be an unauthorised absence anyway: it should be a late detention and that's the end of it.

bit cross about that where were we? how is everyone?

Guad I want to ask you something. Do you also write?

Can we just skate over the f and v issue for now. I have eaten some. But mainly dried apricots, loads, and watermelon.

stuffitllama · 08/04/2009 19:01

loads are not a separate new invented vegetable

loads of apricots of course

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 19:21

Daft thing is Stuffit, recently the majority of year 7 were given a late detention, then told the next day that it was due to a clerical error !!!!!!!!!
So I reckon we are owed some latenesses.

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 19:24

I am going for a run. I am wearing half a tomato, 4 slices of cucumber, a few peas and some dates and apricots (not the loads variety), and some sweet potato.
On the inside.

Off I tootle...

TooTicky · 08/04/2009 19:25

Buggersweetpotatodoesn'tcountdoesit.

littlerach · 08/04/2009 19:29

Swet potatoes do count, I'm sure.

Dds are both n bed, dd1 is reading.

I can hear her telling dd2 that they will have a pillow fight later
Dd1 is reading The Twins at St Clares so is full of old-ish expressions and ideas

TigOeufFeet · 08/04/2009 19:33

I'm fairly sure sweet potatoes count

Not sure about loads though

Inlaws here

Gosh I used to love St Clare's when I was 9ish

Grapes
Beetroot
Coleslaw

FrannyandZooey · 08/04/2009 19:42

TigOeufFeet · 08/04/2009 19:44

I need to get myself to the library and read 'em all again

I am completely out of ideas for Easter themed vegger titles. My brain is pretty much there for show only atm.
