For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Advice please from the gardeners among us...
I've just found some parsnips in my veg patch. Will they still be ok to eat?! They were starting to shoot and were quite 'hairy' with roots but they still look parsnip-y. Also, all my veg was in tubs/containers. Do I need to get rid of all the compost from last year and use fresh to plant this year or can I just dig some more in?

Thank you.

it is nice to read about children with hearing loss doing well - it is worth remembering that a hearing loss in one ear is a compeltely diffrent situation from a loss in both ears.

pinkspottywellies · 14/03/2009 16:53

Thanks avi, I'll bring them in and have a look! And I'll try planting different things too. God knows when I'll find the time (or the seeds for that matter!) but I love having things to eat from the garden. Need to plant some tomatoes too - dd loved picking them and munching in the garden last year. Just need to work on the not eating green ones thing. She knows colours now which might help !

It's amazing how many people know someone with hearing problems!! It is interesting to hear. (Ew, almost a tasteless pun in there.)

People keep phoning to ask questions about the bus and dd2 keeps getting there first, asking them who they are, and saying, "Well I'm dd2 and I'm three." in tones of great importance. People keep complimenting me on my secretary.
