DH been unwell for a while and I finally dragged him to GP on Saturday. GP sent him for blood tests that were taken yesterday morning. Had a phone call at 9.30pm last night saying his White cell count was very very high and he needed to go to hospital and they were expecting us.
They rechecked blood and very very high (normal is 4-11, DH had 382!)
They have done chest xray but they just said they think its a blood disorder and something about bone marrow! Of course we are now thinking leukemia
I have had all of one hours sleep as didnt get home till 4am and baby woke at 5am. Im going back once seen DD1 off to school, and they said the hemotologist will be round first thing and we should have more answers then.
Anyone know anything other than cancer that it could be? Docs werent willing to say a lot last night tbh.
We all have to wear masks and gowns and his in isalation!
Help im panicing

There's good evidence for success in BMT without BT

This is probably a bit previous but you might want to bookmark this in case it's useful xx

psychomum5 · 13/03/2009 13:34

thinking of you.

Wolfcub · 13/03/2009 13:39

Lisa sending positive vibes and strength for Darren and for you. x

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 13/03/2009 14:21

I'm so sorry to read about your husband's illness. Wishing you all love and strength. x x

lisad123 · 13/03/2009 16:35

hi all, afternoon update. Darren now has a laptop with internet as his wonderful work have sent one up, which is sooo nice for us. It means i can talk t him in the evening if i cant get here
His in good spirts and still quoting " i feel fine"! Chemo has kicked ina little as his feeling a bit wobberly, not wanting to eat and tired.
We had a visit from cancer nurse today who answered a few questions but still loads of questions. Until bone marrow results come back they dont know what stage it is, so hard to know good treatment.
Im trying hard to find a book to explain it all to Tanisha, who is 6years old, so can anyone help with that?
Also been told no more children for us we werent planning anymore but would have like to have the choice iyswim. The long term chemo makes it too likely of sick/disabled children.
We are doing ok, thanks for all the messages.
Oh and got a dvd player last night thanks

Glad to hear from you and hope he continues to feel Ok

Please make sure you get enough rest
Lots of love x

DesperateHousewifeToo · 13/03/2009 17:22

Great he's got a laptop, that will make keeping in touch so much easier

He can watch tv on it if he goes to 'tv catchup'.

God luck with the chemo.

GColdtimer · 13/03/2009 19:41

thanks for the update lisa, glad he is bearing up.

When my friend was diagnosed, he had the option to freeze his sperm. could that be an option for you too?

SparklyGothKat · 13/03/2009 19:46

twofalls, lisa has an irregular heartbeat, and pregnancy put too much pressure on her heart (beats WAY too fast) and her platela (sp?) breaks down too fast due to the blood rushing through too quickly, so they decided to stick with the 2 girls but I see why Lisa is sad about that too.

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/03/2009 19:47

Only just seen this - what a terrible shock.

Thinking of you and your family.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/03/2009 19:59

so sorry to hear this lisa. i remember talking to you about coeliac a while back and hoping it wasn't that, but compared to this......

thinking of you all.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 13/03/2009 22:30

Lisa, not sure what else I can add to all the support messages, I know you'll have lots of RL support too.

Just want to say that my family and I are all thinking of you.

My DB and his family are JW in hearts area, and I know if there's anything atall we can do for your family they will be more than happy to help..

treedelivery · 14/03/2009 14:04

Brilliant about the laptop - maybe he'll find his way to mumsnet dads threads!

Get him one of those post dvd subscription things, no one ever finds time to rent. And they have amazing choice. And an ipod for Audio books which are fab - he can drift off into his fav world whilst sitting for his treatment.

For a friend of mine, apart from the obvious stress and discomfort, boredom was the enemy during countless waiting rooms and treatments.

Bless you all

hoxtonchick · 14/03/2009 14:59

really sorry to read this lisa, wishing the whole family strength.

FloriaTosca · 14/03/2009 15:08

Hi Lisa. How are things today?

lisad123 · 14/03/2009 15:11

bugger bugger D&V outbreak on the ward!! aprons and gloves for all and the children cant visit, how the hell do i tell Tanisha

They wont move Darren as he might be carrying it, but if he gets it, its gonna be bad as no immune system bugger bugger

Been told off by the ward sister too, silly moo.

OP posts:
Nabster · 14/03/2009 15:12

Ignore the ward sister. She is irrelevant in all this.

treedelivery · 14/03/2009 15:21

The silly bugger sod her. Gutted for you

The crappola day to day crappola of having anything to do with hospitals.

Massive probiotic doses to aid gut health? I think they can help with the d of d&v but not really sure.

misdee · 14/03/2009 15:24

probiotic and prebiotic arent advisable if immune problems afaik. best ask before you do that.

peters not allowed pre/probiotic stuff

treedelivery · 14/03/2009 15:27

Oh right. Sorry! Stick to the Green and Blacks then

missorinoco · 14/03/2009 16:26
