DH been unwell for a while and I finally dragged him to GP on Saturday. GP sent him for blood tests that were taken yesterday morning. Had a phone call at 9.30pm last night saying his White cell count was very very high and he needed to go to hospital and they were expecting us.
They rechecked blood and very very high (normal is 4-11, DH had 382!)
They have done chest xray but they just said they think its a blood disorder and something about bone marrow! Of course we are now thinking leukemia
I have had all of one hours sleep as didnt get home till 4am and baby woke at 5am. Im going back once seen DD1 off to school, and they said the hemotologist will be round first thing and we should have more answers then.
Anyone know anything other than cancer that it could be? Docs werent willing to say a lot last night tbh.
We all have to wear masks and gowns and his in isalation!
Help im panicing

How is Darren this evening Lisa??

MissHooliesclassmonitor · 16/03/2009 19:43

That's great news! Bet he cant wait to be home - nothing like your own bed and i can imagine how excited the girls will be! Have lots of questions about his treatment but haven't read your blog today so will have a catch up. Have the Macmillan nurses been helpful re the children's questions? They were with us and said pretty much exactly what each one would be like with the news - and they were spot on!!

Gossip - yup it's Twickers for us, though only 2 days as we going to Perth to catch up with friends for one day. Are you braving it going Twix too?

GossipMonger · 16/03/2009 20:08

yep - twix for us.

Gulp.

BIL is going to Rome for his convention. Wish I was!!

we should meet up.

So glad he is home

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/03/2009 10:26

Glad he's home.

Please please write down all of your questions no matter how trivial they sounds. The nurses really won't mind at all and it will make you feel a little less anxious about things like his temperature.

xx

lisad123 · 17/03/2009 21:57

we are meant to be going to Bournemouth for ours in June but think we may well end up at twixers!! might see you there.

Darren is very tired today, he looks so worn out. I hope his not getting worse

It could well be the emotional aspect of being whizzed in to hospital, all the info he has been given, not being in his usual routine, then coming home yesterday - the whole process must be so exhausting for you all and combined with the chemicals his body is being given it's no surprise he is tired. You must be exhausted too Lisa. Your blog is so well written, read it earlier today - made me so about his dad's reaction to you. All that you are coping with, and he acts like that to you. Fruits of the spirit come in handy sometimes dont they?!

Would love to meet up Gossip! If i sort out CAT are you on it? Lisa maybe Hayes Bridge might be better for you as some are going there for the convention this year- is it nearer to you? just thinking much better facilities for you and Darren xx

PortAndLemon · 17/03/2009 23:30

I missed this until now -- really sorry to hear what you are all going through. I'm glad the blog it helping.

lisad123 · 18/03/2009 10:34

hayes bridge? wheres that? Our normal one is Twixers but we try and get to bournemouth for holiday too
Its nice to know people read the blog but i know its very honest, so not an easy read
Today is a better day, Darren walked to the shop with me for some air, and the sun is shining here. Its my parents anniversary so we are all going out for lunch. Darren si banned form salad cart but i think he'll be glad to be out.
thanks for all the support

Wishing you all a lovely lunch

I'm following your blog, Lisa, keep doing it (tried to post comment there but failed) as long as it helps...xx

MissHooliesclassmonitor · 18/03/2009 11:21

It's in surrey so probaby quite a way from you - distance not my thing so not sure how far from Herts sorry! They usually use it for Circuit Assemb (bigger version of Bowes Road do you go there?) but to take the pressure off Twix a lot are going there. So it will obviously be inside with extra rooms for things like 1st Aid, I was just thinking it would be better as Darren would have somewhere to rest if he needs it.

Hope you're feeling better and you have a lovely lunch. It's pants having to be the strong one isnt it when all you want to do is howl . When you said on your blog about seeing a dad with a little girl on his shoulders i came out in goosepimples - that's what gets to me most too. Thank goodness for families eh?! Yours seem so lovely and supportive xx

StealthPolarBear · 18/03/2009 11:33

So sorry to read this, what a shock.
Glad he is home and having a good day.

lisad123 · 19/03/2009 01:39

well after a lovely day Darren is now back in the hospital
Is liver is enlarged and spleen is huge (which we knew anyway)
His running a temp and they are talking about stopping chemo if his infection is too bad

OP posts:
Elibean · 19/03/2009 07:55

I'm so sorry, what a rollercoaster Lisa...I hope they get whatever infection it is under control fast, so chemo can continue. I know from seeing friends through chemo that the lowered immunity part is a constant PITA to say the least.

hockeypuck · 19/03/2009 08:06

Oh o, I'm so sorry Lisa. We'll keep him in our thoughts and prayers for a good recovery x

StealthPolarBear · 19/03/2009 10:38

oh no
Did this all happen through the night? When can you visit today?

NormaJeanBaker · 19/03/2009 10:52

I am sorry for all this incredible heartache and anxiety. Take care of yourself too, if you possibly can at the moment and my thoughts for an excellent outcome for you all. x

lisad123 · 19/03/2009 13:17

thanks, I took him in last night at 9pm. His still there in A&E as thats the only insolation bed atm. They said they seem to have caught it fairly early so all going well he should be home tomorrow, but still dont know about chemo, his white cells are still raised by 35 times more than normal! I have popped in this morning. Just home to grab some lunch and grab him a few bits.

OP posts:
GossipMonger · 19/03/2009 16:13

How are things Lisa?

lisad123 · 19/03/2009 20:42

his home bit already in bed at 6.30pm, his very tired
chemo restarts tomorrow, but doubled up and so given anti sickness just in case. His been told to take it easy, but try and get things back to normal as much as possible. His not allowed to run around after the children though as his at risk of damaging with spleen as its so huge!
Another appointment on monday to make a plan and see how the chemo's are working.
Heres hoping for a peaceful weekend.

MissHooliesclassmonitor · 19/03/2009 22:15

Thinking of you and hoping things settle down a bit soon xx

wishing for a peaceful weekend for you all x
