DH been unwell for a while and I finally dragged him to GP on Saturday. GP sent him for blood tests that were taken yesterday morning. Had a phone call at 9.30pm last night saying his White cell count was very very high and he needed to go to hospital and they were expecting us.
They rechecked blood and very very high (normal is 4-11, DH had 382!)
They have done chest xray but they just said they think its a blood disorder and something about bone marrow! Of course we are now thinking leukemia
I have had all of one hours sleep as didnt get home till 4am and baby woke at 5am. Im going back once seen DD1 off to school, and they said the hemotologist will be round first thing and we should have more answers then.
Anyone know anything other than cancer that it could be? Docs werent willing to say a lot last night tbh.
We all have to wear masks and gowns and his in isalation!
Help im panicing

"we are a strong family and we will rally around for each other (we proved that with Misdee's DH) but how much crap can one family take"

I was thinking exactly that when I saw who the OP of this thread was SKG.

Good to know Lisa has such strong support, but my god life is unfair at times. Postivie vibes to you all!

misdee · 12/03/2009 16:33

Lisa

can't go on bone marrow register but would urge anyone who can to sign up

there's so much out there these days..... misdee will remember my cousin's lad who died. anyway, his dad had acute leukaemia at 5 and was given a fortnight to live, his sixth child is due any day now.

Am not sure how helpful it is to hear about other people living with chronic myeloid leukaemia (sorry for dreadful spelling) but if this gives Lisa and her family any comfort: my best friend at school had to miss my 18th birthday party because her dad had just been diagnosed. Recently me and that friend celebrated our 46th birthdays with a night out. Her dad is still with us and must be in his early 80s now.

Wishing you all everything at this horrible time.

SparklyGothKat · 12/03/2009 16:49

in 2007 we were all worried about Peter,
2008 was my turn when Ds1 was taken to GOSH for an operation on his legs.
and 2009 is lisa's turn

and our brother has a condition which means his stomach opening shrinks and he can't eat...

when will we be allowed a bit of peace..

GColdtimer · 12/03/2009 16:50

I am so sorry to hear this. My friend was diagnosed with the same thing 18 months ago. One minute he felt a bit tired and the next he was having chemo. A complete shock. He is now in complete remission and doing really well. Its a horrible time but it sounds like you have a great family around you.

loopylou6 · 12/03/2009 16:51

i'm so sorry i wish you all lots of strength

Peachy · 12/03/2009 16:59

SGK that was my Mum's family in the seventies: cousin died of the most severe form of ancer; at her funeral (she was five) my aunt got a call to tell her that her son had a fortnight to live (the one whonow has six kids). My Mum lost 5 babies at the same sort of time.

Touch wood, there's been nothing with any of them for years.

I hope this is as much of transient patch for your family.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 12/03/2009 17:04

sending very best wishes to you all
