DH been unwell for a while and I finally dragged him to GP on Saturday. GP sent him for blood tests that were taken yesterday morning. Had a phone call at 9.30pm last night saying his White cell count was very very high and he needed to go to hospital and they were expecting us.
They rechecked blood and very very high (normal is 4-11, DH had 382!)
They have done chest xray but they just said they think its a blood disorder and something about bone marrow! Of course we are now thinking leukemia
I have had all of one hours sleep as didnt get home till 4am and baby woke at 5am. Im going back once seen DD1 off to school, and they said the hemotologist will be round first thing and we should have more answers then.
Anyone know anything other than cancer that it could be? Docs werent willing to say a lot last night tbh.
We all have to wear masks and gowns and his in isalation!
Help im panicing

Oh gosh I'm sorry. I also thought the same when I saw the OP, how terrible for all this sadness in one family.

I can offer another story. DH's Grandad had chronic leukaemia for years and years and years. He lived with it and died at a ripe old age from natural causes.

It is very, very, very treatable. Even without cure, it is a 'better' cancer to get in terms of long term prospects.

I wish you lots and lots of luck and love.

choochoochaboogie · 12/03/2009 18:50

Thoughts and prayers are with you [hug] [hug]

flamingtoaster · 12/03/2009 18:53

treedelivery · 12/03/2009 19:05

Big positive vibes to you all.

Get a dvd player - it will be used and used. ours £60 Argos. Just brilliant for bored kids, patients, visitors, journeys, late nights in bed, early mornings in bed. Thats my only help, except thoughts and prayers.

TheFallenMadonna · 12/03/2009 19:07

I hope the treatment goes well. Thinking of you all.

lisad123 · 12/03/2009 19:15

evening, just popped home to get girls to bed and then im off to hospital again. Thanks so much for the kind messages, it really helps, especially the good storyies as its hard to hear they cant cure it

Darrens settled into a room now, alone due to very little imumme system. They have started chemo today but they have to wait and see how it respondes. The cancer isnt aggressive, but isnt as easy to beat with chemo. They have said bone marrow will be last choice especially as he has no full brother or sister. They took bone marrow from Daqrren today to see how bad it is, as they think he has had this for atleaqst a year! They have said they cant cure it but can keep it at bay for years, so really hoping it works.
I feel like i have gone to hell and back today, have managed on one hours sleep, very little to eat and think i have cried more today than ever before.
TBH it was all a huge shock as he was being tested for a wheat allergy! This has all happened in the last 20 hours!!
best get these girls of mine to bed. We think its best to keep them in routine, as its a long road ahead. thanks Darren lisa, Tanisha, and Jaz

VinoEsmeralda · 12/03/2009 19:23

Lisa, I am so sorry, I really hope they can keep it at bay for years no even decades!

lisad123 · 12/03/2009 19:27

its odd, all he keeps saying is "but I feel fine" He said all he ever wants out of life is to see his 2 girls grown up, so his fighting for that.

GColdtimer · 12/03/2009 19:37

lisa your post is so reminisent of how my friend felt when her DH was diagnosed with the same thing. you sound just like she did. The shock was just unbelieveable and unbearable to start with. Just try to take each day at a time and try to take some comfort from all these really positive stories.

Really am thinking of your family tongiht

bubblerock · 12/03/2009 19:42

Wow, what a horrendous 24 hours you've had! I am so sorry you are having to go through this . Thinking of you all xx
