A Quango, a Quango, it made me eat the mango - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ha! Got it Franny!

pointydog · 10/03/2009 22:04

ah yes, belief. I didn't believe enough

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 22:05

Pointy, there are good ones out there, honestly. A lot just don't do it properly. An awful lot. It is my point of evangelism.

pointydog · 10/03/2009 22:06

How do you know my one wasn't good? She was at Napiers in Edinburgh. Very good reputation.

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 22:07

it gets worse because the symptoms aggravate before they subside

pointydog · 10/03/2009 22:07

Are you a homeopath, ticky? If so, I didn't relaise

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 22:08

well mine is good and I know it. He has produced frankly staggering effects.

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 22:09

No I'm not but feel the call to train - and do it bloody properly!!

pointydog · 10/03/2009 22:09

Yes, I did understand the rationale aboutit getting worse to some extent. But it's a hell of a lot to ask a parent, to watch dreadfully deteriorating skinand to do what seems like nothing. That's where th ebelief comes in.

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 22:12

yes, but if it is v v severe, an acute remedy can be given which is very quick. Have had two children treated for eczema, symptoms disappeared overnight on both occasions.

FrayedKnot · 10/03/2009 22:17

I don;t have any experience of homeopathy, but I was also going to ask, Franny, is there a possibility you could have allergy tests done?

pointydog · 10/03/2009 22:20

ticky, if it were that straightforward we'd all be doing it.

But I don't want to be like a dog with a bone . I'll let it go

Boco · 10/03/2009 22:25

A pointy dog with a bone.

TooTicky · 10/03/2009 23:01

Well, it depends on the individual case obviously.

SuperBunny · 11/03/2009 02:31

morning all
hope the arguing exchange of views over homeopathy has stopped or will have to invoke sacred rule of veggers (rule 7 you are allowed to tease toot about homeopathy but not actually say outright it is crap)
boco i don't know
i think i know some people who have tried it not really believing it, and it has worked
or should i say 'worked'

anyway yes have asked to be referred for allergy doodah but not much hope of coming up soon i don't think
my friend whose dd has such obvious allergic symptoms has been waiting for referral for what seems like aeons

right childcare has been juggled to within inch of its life
i had about 3 hours sleep
am off to work

hope all veggers and lurkers have a happy day

I had food sensitvity testing done when I suffered from IBS and it changed my life.

I used to look permanantly pregnant and lived with a hot water bottle strapped to my tummy and within weeks had cleared it
It only flares up once in a blue moon now.

I'm all for everything, even if the believing is a part of the process...if it works what does it matter.

I like lurkers, but do wonder why?. we must be so interesting........

Oh it is so sad but I do like being on my own during the week. I feel less confused and more like myself...

mangolassi · 11/03/2009 08:02

I'm sooo faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

I wish I could blame it on being pregnant, but we left the mangohut for a week and spent it somewhere with real restaurants and billions of foodie options. On successive nights, we ate:

massive Indian
fancy fancy blue cheese & bacon burger
massive Italian - lots of cheese and garlic bread
Mexican - more bread and cheese and some beans

I feel a tiny bit sick just thinking about it. Definitely need to start thinking more fruitily. And apologies - forgot to censor cow juice products...

So -
mango dragonfruit banana watermelon pineapple (2, with muesli)
banana blueberry raspberry smoothie (1)

have plans for masssive, 5-portion salad for dinner, with some hummus and baba ganoush

mangolassi · 11/03/2009 08:06

These threads move so fast I've had periods of lurking because i'd spend all my available online time just trying to catch up. Now I post first and then read

AtillaTheHairyArsedTrucker · 11/03/2009 08:09

Mango........so good to see you.....

pinkspottywellies · 11/03/2009 08:21

Boco, everyone loved Tanya Byron when she did a live chat. They were all appreciative and nice and had crushes on her!

DS is waking up twice in the night at the moment [very lucky that he sleeps at all]

Hi mango! Sounds like a marvellous few days. Lovely treat!

Franny, hope it goes ok today. Is the lurker a regular MNer? It's so funny that people email you

It's cold here. Lovely and sunny but just went outside and it's freezing! DD has just gone off to fun farm with friends and I'm going to go to bed for an hour (after I've hoovered)

Only had oj so far, and freeze dried raspberries and cocoa beans
