For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hmm, well I'm not sure about the red bull but it is hard to give up exercise if you are used to the mental health benefits. The runs just sound so arduous if you feel that bad.

I had a rowing machine once, it was extremely squeaky and I felt more stress after using it!

AtillaTheHairyArsedTrucker · 13/03/2009 10:47

I think it is partly why I got so poorly. Things got so terrible at home I would take off for a run to escape and deal with things and it got so horrible and bad. The worse it got the more I ran until I reached the point I am at now....

Boco · 13/03/2009 11:19

I'm going swimming. Would swimming be good Atilla? Gentler on your body? All that running down cliffs sounds very hard work. Funny what impressions we get of people - what was it that made you think 100x was afro-caribbean do you think?

Guadalupe · 13/03/2009 12:18

Yes, would a long swim not be enough for endorphins? I think if you have to drink red bull to run, then maybe you are not okay to run, and if the running perpetuates the health problems it's counter-productive, no?

I suppose you have to decide which you can deal with more, a persistent malaise or giving up the high. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with you so forgive me if I speak out of turn or it isn't relevant, just seems peculiar to so something so tough if you are ill.

AtillaTheHairyArsedTrucker · 13/03/2009 12:32

They keep closing the swimming pool, but yes it would be better. sometimes it wouldn't be open when I needed to get out. I don't drive so by the time you get a bus it takes more time. Running is easy and immediate.

I suppose the thing has been that H gets very nasty tempered and irritable a lot of the time and then I would sort the DC's and go for a run to deal with my feelings and frustration. At the moment it is quieter, but the pressure still seems immense. For complicated reasons I don't have friends I can just drop into anytime.

But you are both right. It is hard letting go of something for the time being that gives me so much pleasure and gets me out of the house. I suppose I was going to run this afternoon because I am dreading the weekend. Really.

A walk would be better. I'll probably do that and get some photos for a project I am working on.

Guad...I have chronic anaemia, something not quite right with my immune system, and the worry of having a cervical growth investigated. I keep getting oral thrush and struggle to eat properly. Gone a bit tits up really.....

Not speaking out of turn....I can be my own worst enemy and probably need a mental shake. It is not fair on docs if they are trying to treat me and I am not doing my bit.

I have no idea why I thought that about 100.......was ages ago with her return to the thread....just my mental picture.....

AtillaTheHairyArsedTrucker · 13/03/2009 12:41

Oh shit.

I lost a lot of my friends over the years because of H's jealousy. He doesn't even really like me MNing. Or texting friends much.

Not the thread for it really but whole picture is such a mess.

I am happy on my own and less confused. I am fairly quiet and not hugely confident in RL and things went on for far too long.

I like it on here.

No matter, things will sort themselves out one way or another.

Sorry. Pre-menstrual .Might go and swear somewhere...

Guadalupe · 13/03/2009 13:17

Oh dear. That does sound a pickle.

Well, if I were you, I would probably go swimming, actually that is untrue, I hate swimming but some other form of gentle exercise, then when things get awful and you need to get out, you could get a little moped and whizz about so you get the feeling of air rushing past your cheeks and that you are leaving things behind without immobilising yourself for the next few days.

You could get a really cool moped and be like Audrey Hepburn.

BBBee · 13/03/2009 13:52

nice to see a healthy lashing of veggers in round up.

BBBee · 13/03/2009 13:53

what's wrong with toot?

BBBee · 13/03/2009 13:54

i think these [sgrin]

are shit.

the best one is

and i so wish they had done as it would be so twistily ironically great.

BBBee · 13/03/2009 13:58

attila - i agree with the others - drinking red bull so you haveenough energy to run is a way of your body showing you it doesn't have enough energy to run. caffine is like adreniline, so you a basically using you fight or flight mechanism artifically and that has quite damaging immune effects.

it sounds like you cna't manage without it ('a pickle' as guad charmingly put it) you need to sort out the pickle that makes you need to do that ('oh really sherlock') and that is easy said than done, but you need to try the 'done' even if you can only do a littlebit.

mollyroger · 13/03/2009 14:05

dear lord - have the emoticons got measles?

this one looks terrible!

Guadalupe · 13/03/2009 14:37

I have eaten a delicious chickpea salad for lunch, it was cheek-suckingly tart with lemon and garlic and olives and sun-dried tomatoes and parsley and a carefully measured tsp of olive oil. Nice with rice cakes or crusty white bread of if you're so inclined.

Boco · 13/03/2009 14:39

I had cheese. On. Toast. It was cheesy and toasty.

BBBee · 13/03/2009 14:45

that sounds lovely guad. i love lebanese food. one day wew are going to all meet up in a lebanese restaurant and eat glourious salad and boco can have hallomi in pitta as that is like cheese on toast adn molly can smoke one of those huge bong pipes and we will drink mint tea and red wine.

BBBee · 13/03/2009 14:46

'glorious salad' is not the excitment i was hoping for - i mean little feta and spinach pastries and exotica.

Guadalupe · 13/03/2009 14:50

Noooo, Boco won't eat the halloumi, it reminds her of her armpits.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 13/03/2009 15:03

I love the way halloumi squeaks between your teeth. I smoked a bong in Egypt, it was an anti-climax, but I did feel very naughty (saddo)

Atilla, if your friends are real friends, they will understand. Make contact again with them and explain why the friendship ended (although they probably know already.)

I have just made lemon and poppy seed muffins for tonights book club. I'm hoping they will disguise the fact that I have nothing intelligant to say about the book

'Lemur, what is your opinion on Flora Poste character being compared to an Austin heroine?'

'um, muffin anyone? homebaked today'

TooTicky · 13/03/2009 16:39

I am here, I am just a bit mute and crap but I love you all.

Tatties · 13/03/2009 16:50
