For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ooh I really enjoyed that Dr Strange book, but it is fairly complicated Boco.

Guadalupe · 03/03/2009 15:36

Sorry it's not the one you wanted, Molly. Better than crappo one I guess.

There are millions of book groups round here. I started this one about four years ago but I don't run it. There are eight or so people. We do talk about the book, for most of the time but there s plenty to drink and eat and the people are nice and it's not wanky or anything. People often come if they haven't read it. I don't bother witht the ones I don't like the sound of. Don't have the time.

Molly I'm glad the news was OK even if it wasn;t your top choice. How about DS1's friends, will he have some friends going there too?

I used to go to a lovely sing and sign class with DS. We went for months, and DS never learned even one sign (or demonstrated that he had), and spent most of the several months ignoring the singing, and crawling and then later on climbing up the steps that went onto the stage, or eating dust from under the heating pipes.

But the other Mums that went were lovely and the teacher was lovely and we had coffee and shared our stories about sleep deprivation and husbands who worked away and it was cosy and sociable.

Perhaps time to find another class that suits you better, Guad?!

We had drama in The Village as a big house in the centre of town, right by the school, caught fire at 3am, and there were 60 firefighters adn the road is still closed and it's still smoldering. Elderly couple lived there and both in hospital but ok. We were allowed to walk along the road and past, with a fireman escort this afternoon - and it was horrid seeing all the piles of their charred things on the pavement. I feel really sad for them. The man is called Merlin. I always thought that was mainly for hippy children rather than old men.

Guadalupe · 03/03/2009 18:04

Poor things. They must be so shocked, and how awful to know everyone can walk past and see all your belongings like that. Dreadful

FK - I might give it one more shot and see, he's normally a bit more settled there, only been a few times. If not the one in the library is okay and they can walk off or whatever. It's so glaringly obvious in this room if they are not 'conforming'.

I have my first weigh-in at 7pm.

FrayedKnot · 03/03/2009 18:40

Good luck Guad!

I'm sure you will have lost something if you have been sticking to the points. WW does work.

Boco what a drama - house fires on that scale are very frightening.

FrannyandZooey · 03/03/2009 19:17

molly oh dear
i bet you feel a bit flat
i am glad it wasn't the scary one

TigerFeet · 03/03/2009 19:34

THanks, Boco & TooT, I'm in the process of ordering it

pinkspottywellies · 03/03/2009 19:35

Molly, glad it wasn't the awful one!!

Guad, hurry back and tell us how you got on!

AuntieMaggie · 03/03/2009 19:44

Can I join in?

What constitutes as 10 minutes of exercise?

Today I have had:
Grapes
2 plums
apple
1/2 tin peaches
1/2 tin grapefruit
Salad (lettuce, toms, cucumber, onion, beetroot, celery)

Think I need to look at what the portioning is

ahundredtimes · 03/03/2009 19:57

Hello Auntie M. Yes, of course, you might join in.

Am not sure what constitutes 10 mins exercise. I am just not the person to ask. There is something cardiovascular involved. Franny will tell us.

TF - thank you .
Moll - well at least not No Hope High. Are you feeling cross about it? Is there any point appealing do you think?

ahundredtimes · 03/03/2009 19:57

I mean you must join in.

FrannyandZooey · 03/03/2009 20:04

oh hello auntiem
exercise can be anything - but the idea is (unless you are already very active) that it is in addition to what you normally do, so if you always walk briskly to the shops on a tuesday, you don't count that
it's meant to be an easy way to increase your activity levels
100 probably spends it opening a pack of brie or something

I walk up hills Fra, I've told you, it's a whole new level of strenuous dog walking work-out here.

Dunno Avi, not sure. Probably not.

littlerach · 03/03/2009 20:14

List:

Raisin
Lemon curd
banana
Carrot
Celery
Humous
red pepper
green pepper (half)
sweetcorn
Green beans
grapes

Nearly 10 I think.

Waether is awful here, gales and lashing rain.

mollyroger · 03/03/2009 20:27

100, ds is terribly upset and is goading me into appealing, though I am 50/50 between feeling chagrin they we haven't got into Shiny school and relief that we haven't got into Shiny school (we are not a very Shiny family, and I fear we might struggle to compete with ski-ing trips and family holidays at the family villa in Tuscany etc IYKWIM)

There is a terribly nice mum in the playground (who reminds me a lot of you!) whose family moved to the town explicitly to get into the Shiny School. They rang the school and said : ''we are moving to X road, will we get in?'' Schol said ''oh yes''.
They didn't. And got offered No-Hope High. They appealed and got into the school ds has been offered. And absolutely LOVE it!

However ds is not in th mood to hear such uplifting stories. He is still crying. And demanding we appeal...

It's going to be a traumatic couple of weeks i fear.

I will speak of this no more. Sorry for terrible hi-jack.

Lettuce

My excercise has been Pacing.

mollyroger · 03/03/2009 20:28

And sorry for gratuitous over-use of 'terribly'.
I think I have been channeling Joyce Grenfell, in my attempts at stiff-upper-lippery.

TigerFeet · 03/03/2009 20:30

Oh molly, poor ds1

Sadly my experience of appeals based on distance to school would lead me never to bother again. Sorry that probably doesn't help does it

TooTicky · 03/03/2009 20:36

Oh Molly
Where are his friends going?

I'm feeling quite odd about posting on here atm but am lurking pitifully with my nose pressed against the window making little steamy marks.

Ds2 has his (last!) op tomorrow and I have to tell the doctors and nurses in no uncertain terms that they are not to stick the eye shield on with such evilly sticky tape or ds2 will go straight home. Makes for such agony removing it the next day.

half a tomato. Some chickpeas.

mollyroger · 03/03/2009 20:38

They are going to Shiny School, Toot,
