For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

i always feel a bit about this but apparently loving a food and wanting it all the time is a sure sign of intolerance

I saw the dietician yesterday. I said he seemed to crave oranges which was a shame as they affect his skin and she said that was very common.

Can you be referred to one? Mine isn't always helpful though, she said be careful with rice milk as there is def added sugar as rice isn't sweet and it will say so on the label. It doesn't.

mollyroger · 07/03/2009 10:37

yeah, I'd heard that too Franny. And I'm looking at my boy idly eating butter out of the butter-dish as we speak...

TBH Franny, my boys have a much better diet than I do and he eats very little processed food (unless you count the very ocasional cheesestring )

he is able to concentrate and focus and all that, it's just the temper thing. And it may be nowt to do with foods at all, of course...just exploring all possibilities, y'know.

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2009 10:40

oh no, sorry,i didn't explain properly, it was milk and wheat she cut out, as well as junk
i was just trying to remind myself as i was typing, what it was that i had read
i know your boys don't have junk mollly!

mollyroger · 07/03/2009 10:43

oh they do have SOME junk but not daily ...but I have sourced flying saucers with no atricial flavorings or colourings now.... And jelly beans. And erm, marshmallows with real strawberry jam in the middle and...and...

Guadalupe · 07/03/2009 10:44

I thought you meant concentration and focus. Where did you hear that dairy could affect temper? Sugar probably does but they don't eat tons of sugar do they.

OB needs to hurry up and train as a detician and then she can answer all our questions to save speculation. Come on, OB, GET A MOVE ON.

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2009 10:44

LOL i meant i know they don't live off junk!
oh LOL we both mean the same thing - i know they have a BASICALLY GOOD DIET
anyway i will look in the allergy book later and if it was not in there i will check the library next week, if you haven't foubnd anything

Am coming to Narch today Guad if you happen to be in town.

I went through a phase of really really craving lovehearts - everyday. I wonder what that meant. I thought we craved things we needed, not the other way around. Although I've never craved quinoa or tofu or anything wholesome. Mostly red wine, chocolate, lovehearts.

mollyroger · 07/03/2009 11:14

lovehearts=crack cocaine.....

Boco · 07/03/2009 11:17

Crack cocaine quite moreish too I hear.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 07/03/2009 11:22

Just popping in to say hello, so, hello!!

I no longer resemble John Merrick but my jaw/mouth is still sore so the f&v (and food in general) intake is rubbish.

I'm still awaiting 100X book, but can't start it yet anyway as I need to finish Cold Comfort Farm for book club next week. I'm not enjoying it (CCF) as much as I thought I would tbh.

Get your KitchenAid out Franny, here is a recipe for marshmallows. I guess you can get veg gelatine?

Guadalupe · 07/03/2009 11:41

It's here! How exciting! Just in time for me to start too. I am looking forward to it.

I am flying into town at lunchtime, Boco, but haven't really got time to stop. Have to get dd from drama at 1pm and some friends are coming at 2pm to help with kitchen design. Then I have cook for people tonight.
Sorry.

Dh is looking with raised eyebrows at the brochure of French enamelled stoves. We can't have one but they are so beautiful. Think of the things you could cook while standing before such an aesthetic pleasure I say. He is not convinced.

littlerach · 07/03/2009 12:40

Lemur, I have never managed ti read CCF all of the way through, though I try nearly every year.

Raisins
tomatoes

Last night i had Alla Siciliana, so aubergines and it was scrumptious.

I have very nice green nail vranish one. I like watching my nails as I type (so even more typos )

Dds' mag subs have arrived so they are almost entertained for a while.

Afternoon

BBBee, good luck with the new job!

Franny hope lunch went well?

Blueberries
Dried fruit
Celery
Mixed Leaves

I am making parsnip soup and shortly, carrot cake.

I have done massive amounts of housework today and rearranged all the furniture. I do love a good furniture moving session.

SuperBunny · 07/03/2009 16:17

Avi

DO NOT MAKE Marshmallows at home. PLEASE. Boiling sugar and sticky stuff is a recipe for disaster. When it goes wrong, it will take many many months to clear the mess up

littlerach · 07/03/2009 16:55

Do you speak from experience SB?

FrayedKnot · 07/03/2009 17:07

Hope it wasn;t anyone who would have minded knowing your precise wherabouts, Avi

I have been on my feet since 8am.

I am sitting down.

I may not move again today.
