It took ages for it to work for me too - its on again tonight though at some stupid oclock - 3am or there abouts if your mad enough to be up then!

NuckingFuts · 09/03/2009 23:08

Incidentally the nurse who did my smear actually asked if it was because of Jade Goody and she said that she had seen a big increase in demand for tests.

simpson · 09/03/2009 23:27

Red - have just watched it now...

Nuckingfuts - (love the name) my nurse said the same thing...they were really busy.

branflake81 · 10/03/2009 12:11

I went for my first ever one last week. It was awful. Still, done it now.

Just one question - why do they only offer the new injection to children, why can't all women have it?

RedOnHerHead · 10/03/2009 13:30

branflake, I think they need to have it done before they are sexually active - I may be wrong though.

Shhhh · 10/03/2009 18:23

red,well said about Jade.

I so wish her peace and those left behind some kind of happiness and normaility esp her ds's.
I admit I was a Jade fan before and even more so now..I feel very sad thought about all of this. Part of me doesn't want to know anymore about her, its to distressing but then part wants to look with one eye half open...
I think given her age and lo's are similar to me I kind of feel a likeness.

I'm proud of her and the "jade effect". I guess not many women would continue like she has iykiwm given the same circumstances.Just sad of how this has come about.

Although I do have regular smears and have done since about 19 I must admit it was following the anouncement of the Indian BB that made me book my routine appointment on time...guess I got in there before all this took effect. So I guess the Jade effect has even reached us regulars iykwim.

I still can't quite believe that she is nearing the end... Pictures of her 6 months ago..even 4 months ago showed her so happy and content and healthy................................................................................

simpson · 10/03/2009 20:01

Good post Shhhh.

Ripeberry · 10/03/2009 20:04

Mine is 3yrs overdue. Can we take children to the appointment with us?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 10/03/2009 20:08

Had mine today. I never tend to go to the doctors so the nurse made full use of me being there and I came out with 12 weeks free at Weightwatchers and half price trips to the gym because I am a lardarse. So thanks for this thread, I might even become thinner as a result!

EyeballsintheSky · 10/03/2009 20:09

I took DD and the nurse wasn't happy. To be fair, DD does scream the house down when she's stuck in the buggy and the nurse was a witch but as I've nosily peeked at your profile and seen yours are 4 and 6 I would imagine they're more than capable of sitting quietly with a comic for 3 minutes. They'll draw the curtains anyway.

My ever so helpful nurse huffed and puffed, glared at dd (14 months) and said 'Isn't there anyone you can leave her with?' 'Er no, you dozy tart. If there was I wouldn't have dragged her out with me'. Tut!

EyeballsintheSky · 10/03/2009 20:10

How did you swing WW and the gym, Wynken?

simpson · 10/03/2009 20:41

I took DD (13mths) and had her in buggy and just gave her loads of food to stuff her face with while it was being done

I didn't want to take DS (3) as I didn't think he would stay on the other side of the curtain and I wasn't really sure how to explain a smear test to a 3yr old

Tiggly · 10/03/2009 21:00

Mine was 7 years overdue which is disgraceful seeing as I work in the health service and advocate such screening... I was disgusted with myself. Thankfully I went yesterday evening after it took me 3 weeks to find out where I could get an appointment or a clinic which was in the evening / out of hours as I have no leave until the new financial year and am unable to take time off!! Phew, it's all over I hope for another couple of years!! Just awaiting my result now!

frumpygrumpy · 10/03/2009 21:12

I'm so proud of you girls! Well done!

Eyeballs, screw your nurse. So mad for you! How dreadful.....it takes seconds to whip off your knickers and do the test (and I wouldn't bother with the curtain either, kids can take it and it might even have been that that bothered your DD as well as the nurses attitude). How exactly are we meant to pass on that periods/smears/sex/drugs.... any issue that we want them to be safe about are open for discussion, if nurses like that make us feel its something to hide???? Crazy.

My DD asked me what I did yesterday (she was away overnight on a school trip). I told her I had a check up at the doctors and she asked why. I told her I had a smear test and when she asked what it was I just said its to test that the cells inside your body are doing what they are meant to. I explained everyone who has had a baby should have a test. Its crazy that a nurse should think we should hide these things. So 1950/60/70/80's..........

Sorry, rant done

So who has booked theirs and is yet to have it? I am losing track of this as my clipboard has got lots of red ticks on it!

Anyone who is still waiting for their appointment please step forward.

Anyone who is lurking and hasn't booked yet, please come here so frumpy can nag your ears off and kick you up the bum and receive words of support and hugs

simpson · 10/03/2009 21:33

Frumpy - my nurse wouldn't do test without curtain round me...

TBH I was grateful as knowing my luck someone would walk in with my legs akimbo to give nurse a cup of tea or something

Am sooo happy I got it done, I treated myself to a new pair of shoes today

hippipotamiHasLostSixPounds · 11/03/2009 08:22

Mine is this morning, but it is not overdue. (it is actually due next week but am in the middle of my cycle now)
Am dreading it. Really really do not want to go. Am not confident about my body and to lie there with my bits exposed is such a horrendous thought...

Think of me at 9.50 am today when my appt is....

EyeballsintheSky · 11/03/2009 09:29

Hippi, just remember, I bet you'd rather be where you are than where they are! I mean, how many fanjos can you look at in one day! They must get up in the morning and think, 'what's on today? Oh great, more fanjos just for a change '

Good luck

hippipotamiHasLostSixPounds · 11/03/2009 09:35

Thanks eyeballs, you are right I cannot imagine anything worse than spending my days looking up fanjos!

I just thought after having two children I would be less embarrased about my bits

BellaNoir · 11/03/2009 11:05

I spend my days looking at the cells taken from everyones' fanjos! And it is quite interesting - the response at parties is usually 'ewwh'.
Keep it up ladies!

EyeballsintheSky · 11/03/2009 11:06

Ah but cells are different. They don't have pubes!

frumpygrumpy · 11/03/2009 11:14

good for you doll, and I bet you feel good about it now. I find its how the nurse makes you feel isn't it? Mine had a laugh with me because she's doing so many. The nurse can make all the difference IMHO.

Baggiebird · 11/03/2009 11:22

Hi, my smear is now 5 years overdue. A nurse from my surgery phoned me on Monday and made me book one.
Its on Tuesday the 24th and I must admit I'm nervous, I really shouldn't be after having 3 children

hippipotamiHasLostSixPounds · 11/03/2009 11:38

Mine was fine. The nurse was lovely, we had a lovely chat (about the same disney poster which has been above the examination bench for centuries and how it was bizarre to have a smear with Mickey et al looking down )
The smear was fine and quick.

My weight was another matter all together, am now morbidly obese so she has told me to come back every two weeks adn she will weigh me and if I make good progress over the next few months she will pass me over to one of the GP's to talk about further weight-loss help available.
Had a good cry. I know I am obese, but to be told it by a health professional is still gutting

But thanks for the badge, will be proud to wear it all day
