babyOcho · 23/02/2009 13:23

am on the phone on hold trying to get an appointment right now!

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 13:26

Well done all those who have booked one - mine are 6mthly at the monent after having abnormal results for 3years and then finally had treatment to remove it in Oct.

Even if they do find abnormalities, they can remove it and its not that bad believe me - it's just like having a smear, but it takes a bit longer. I've come to the conclusion that the doc doesn't know me by my face anymore - he takes a look at my fanjo and says "Oh yes its Mrs Red"

So, if anyone is still thinking of booking - get on the phone now! please!

zanz1bar · 23/02/2009 13:29

Booked in for tomorrow.
Mine was 15 years overdue. Hang my head in shame and go sit on naughty step.

EyeballsintheSky · 23/02/2009 13:30

Sorry Red but LOL.

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 13:30

ScorpiowithabigS, its not that bad, they've seen it all before and they are very professional about it. Ok, so its a little bit embarassing and awkward, but it doesn't hurt and its better to have 2 minutes (thats all it takes) awkwardness and know its ok than the consequences of leaving it if its not.
Book it now.

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/02/2009 13:33

oh i dont care about them seeing my fanjo, i just wonder if it hurts when they take the sample?

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 13:34

Eyeballs its true! - and because I have mine done at the colposcopy unit of the hospital - he wears those funny little binoculars too, so he can get a good old look!

Buda · 23/02/2009 13:35

Done - next Tuesday at 2pm.

Think am starting menopause too so will have bloods done as well and figure out if I have a reason for feeling so shitty.

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 13:36

Scorpio, no it doesn't hurt - they just scrape a little off, they dont dig at it or anything. You probably wont feel anything at all and the scraping part takes seconds thats all.

potplant · 23/02/2009 13:38

It doesn't hurt its just a bit uncomfortable.

For me its the legs akimbo bit that it the worst bit so if you're not bothered about that then you're laughing (sort of).

My very first one was with my mum's best friend who was the practice nurse. I was mid 20's and nearly died when I saw her.

Last time I went I realised the practice nurse is married to one of DH's mates. I would have run off if she hadn't seen me first.

Keep phoning and don't give up!!

EyeballsintheSky · 23/02/2009 13:39

Yay, I'm not the most hopeless scaredy one on here!!!

shame on you zanz1bar

SuperMario · 23/02/2009 13:41

I am stunned you lot are so utterly shit about this tbh
Should be ashamed of yourslef.
You need one
get it done.

troutpout · 23/02/2009 13:53

i'll join you
was going to leave it untill summer (then i don't have to make the decision to take off or leave on my socks ) but whatever.
I always bleed after...i blardy hate it
Excuses excuses...ok...i am going to make that phonecall
Right now...

EyeballsintheSky · 23/02/2009 13:59

We are very ashamed, at least I am and it isn't about Jade really, more a case of 'oh blimey, this is serious stuff not just baring your fanjo for the fun of it'.

It's very easy to put nasty things off and if it takes something like this to give you a kick up the arse then so be it.

Now socks are a different matter.

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 14:01

troutpout - haha! socks! don't look too keen will you?!

troutpout · 23/02/2009 14:05

That's just it Red...socks on is such a bad look (i feel uncomfortable.. i know she/he won't give a flying feck ...but you know)...but socks off is kind of putting it all in a new catagory isn't it?

Lemontart · 23/02/2009 14:08

I am 5 years overdue now (I think) if it is every 2 years. Keep binning the reminders and thinking after the next period.. blah blah. Irregular so hard to predict.
Ok.
I am due on anytime soon so will definitely book as soon as I am with no excuses. Playing on my mind and imagining the worst here. Every little dull ache etc over the last few months has got me anxious

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 14:10

troutpout, in hospital i have to wear one of those back-opening gowns - so with arse out, gripping it together for dear life, can socks really make it look a whole lot worse? ...... probably

RedOnHerHead · 23/02/2009 14:13

LemonTart, book it now, if you have your period when you have your appointment, you can always reschedule it then. If you are irregular anyway, then its important to get it done.

frumpygrumpy · 23/02/2009 14:19

Ah socks I feel a whole other thread coming on. I take mine off btw.

Correct, it really is nothing to do with Jade Goody. I cribbed from Max Clifford who was saying on the news this morning that the "Jade Goody Effect" is being seen up and down the country with women booking in for smears in the light of her sad situation. I totally agree with another poster who said that if that is her legacy then it is a good one and we only have to read through the thread to see that heaps of us are overdue.

So I am extremely please that we're all pulling our fingers out and phoning and doing and preparing to splay

frumpygrumpy · 23/02/2009 14:22

Lemontart, I agree with Red, I mean MrsRed , I am very unpredictable too and so I just book and hope it goes ahead. At least then you are likely to re-book. It is daft, I don't even know why mine is overdue. I have no good reason.

Our nurse is lovely, she uses a speculum warmed in warm water

EyeballsintheSky · 23/02/2009 14:33

Judging by the old witch I spoke to on the phone this morning, who actually sounded like she didn't want to book me in, she'll be holding my bits open by my pubes and inserting a 'fresh from the freezer' speculum

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 23/02/2009 14:42

FM - I think this has made lots of us think - I have no idea when mine last was or next is, and certainly this has spurred me into checking up - so yes - she has benefitted lots of us, so I hope at least that is some legacy to come out of this awful situation

Phoenix · 23/02/2009 14:44

I'm not overdue but i was a year overdue this time last year, it took me ages to ring and it isn't half as bad as you get in your head. Well done to all those who have booked, just make sure you go through with the appointment

Re socks - My friends doc said to her once when she took her socks off 'we're not having sex or anything, you don't need to take your socks off' I think of that all the time when i go for one

girlandboy · 23/02/2009 14:49

Scorpio - nothing to worry about honestly. It doesn't hurt, and they don't even "scrape" any more with a wooden spatula thing. It's a neat little brush now! And it's a plastic speculum, so it's not even that cold anymore.

(Had mine done about 6 months ago)
