For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Boco · 25/01/2009 22:33

This baby is one. He's walking about grinning and falling over a lot. He is very lovely. It'll be fine won't it. How hard can it be? [fear]

pointydug · 25/01/2009 22:38

fruiters, mil has confused me.

I bought these white turnips in the supermarket because they had none of the usual yellow ones.

mil said to dh today that I will not be able to mash them, I will have to either slice or dice them.

Can you tell me the difference between the two in terms of taste and mashing texture? It all sounds odd to me.

SuperBunny · 25/01/2009 22:54

S'ok Franny, I wasn't bothered - eat what you like!

I don't think I've ever had a real turnip, only swedes.

Boco · 25/01/2009 23:08

[father dougal stare]

Boco · 25/01/2009 23:10

Umm. I think, that the white ones are kind of - a different texture, I've had them diced and fried, that was nice, wheras the other sort you can mash and go softer with less sort of crunch. The white turnip doesn't go as sort of mushy, it's also got more of a bitter flavour.

but i could be wrong.

daisy99divine · 25/01/2009 23:49

Blimey
I have been running to catch up, skimmed other thread only to find you have all moved here!

And I can only get a word in edgeways now you are all in bed!

But good luck tomorrow all with appointments, and TooT, I know you have gone, but don't fret too much, I bet lots of it is cos you know you are going to the GP and so can be beset with health anxiety IYSWIM?

SuperBunny · 26/01/2009 00:49

I went for a run and did weights and stuff. That's 3 days in a row

daisy99divine · 26/01/2009 01:37

SB you are getting scarily like TWF!

SuperBunny · 26/01/2009 01:43

Oh no, no chance of that Daisy. I usually have phases when I do exercise and longer periods when I am just a lazy slattern.

apple

TooTicky · 26/01/2009 04:49

Boco, boys have surprisingly enormous bits. You may just stare and feel slightly unable to clean around them. I mean, with girls, you don't have to lift anything, do you?

Hello Daisy I keep missing you!

Turnips and swedes are completely different but both lovely. I never mash either. Both go well in stews/pasties/pies/diced root medley kind of things.
Swedes taste quite swedey whereas turnips are definitely more turnippy.

SuperBunny · 26/01/2009 04:52

Toot, it's not even 5am yet

TooTicky · 26/01/2009 04:53

Tatties birthday? Nobody told me! Which tomorrow? Now?

TooTicky · 26/01/2009 04:53

TooTicky · 26/01/2009 06:29

I justlooked at the portion link! I never do that. I have eaten almost a portion of cold peas this morning.
A PORTION
I have been lacking in portions lately so can I have a sticker please?

TooTicky · 26/01/2009 06:36

Where are you all, ye lazy bunch of lie-a-beds! There is a world out there and it's...well, dark and cold. But that's no excuse really.

TinyWhiteFeather · 26/01/2009 06:46

Oh Boco, it will be lovely. DS was and is insatiably curious and very cuddly and it was very easy to meak him laugh. He loved tactile things (and still does) and was just happy having company. Don't fret, you will be ace.

Sidles up to SB for an exercise addict buddy...shall we compare muskles?

Happy Birthday to TATTIES!! Releases far too many balloons into yurt and puts on silly dancey music.

It is going to be a fabulous day, and all with docs appointments are going to be reassured and on the healing road and laugh about how silly and worried we all were later ,

TinyWhiteFeather · 26/01/2009 08:25

Is nobody up this morning?

harrumph.

I'll, I'll open another can of diet - coke and scatter nuts everywhere......

DC's say Happy Birthday too!!!

Tatties · 26/01/2009 08:34

New moon today. Here's hoping it's a good luck day for everyone xxx

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/01/2009 08:37

Move away from the Diet Coke TWF , that stuff is rancid!

Happy Birthday Tatties, enjoy your special day.

Good luck to those who have appointments today, I'll be thinking of you.

Whoever was going to make the JO Meatloaf and chickpea thing, can you let me know how it went. I've been thinking of making it and would like someone else's opinion. Ta.

littlerach · 26/01/2009 08:49

Happy Birthday Tatties

Boco, I looked after my frined's ds when he was 9 months last year and it was so wierd. I often have my friend's dd who is just 2 and even that was odd as dds are older.

Good luck TWF and TooT.
