For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh, so spaghetti and 'meat' balls was probably a bad idea. Bugger. Will eat bananas all afternoon. Thanks.

sinkingfast · 07/01/2009 19:41

Ker-chiiing, as DS would say.

OK, so that's today (and the exercise is a whole different ballgame, as it were). Can anyone point me in the direction of nay good suggestions people have made re breakfasts on any previous threads (as there have been so many!)

Thanks for all the welcomes btw

A grapefruit ( is that 2, do you think)?

Big salad for lunch

Pasta with lots of brocolli and cheese for supper.

It wasn;t particulalry orgasmic

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 19:45

Yes, a whole grapefruit = 2

Breakfast:

Handful of oats, raisins, sultanas, banana and glass of juice.

Baked oatmeal with dried fruit in it

Porrige with grated apple and raisins

Porridge made with pureed banana instead of milk

Toast with Strawberry jam

I only know because my ex always called it Brock- coli which made me want to punch him.

Do I really correct people's spellings? Or am I just being really bossy today?

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 19:49

Come back FK!

FrayedKnot · 07/01/2009 19:53

Was the end bit pronounced coli as in E-Coli?

I would want to punch someone who said it like that

I have a degree in Italian

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 19:56

Yes, just like e-coli

How exciting to have a degree in Italian. That sounds so glamorous. Mine is in environmental biology. We did a lot of work on sewage.

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2009 19:59

i have more to report:

apple
plate of veg bits: cuc, tomato, beetroot, yellow pepper

and there's a chocolate and orange pudding in the oven as we speak
mmm-hmmm

breakfast? i have oats with raisins (and seeds ), and as much chopped fruit as i can fit in a large bowl
usually about 4 or 5 portions in total
but then i am greedy vegger

i would have had a degree in philosophy
had i managed to finish it [dim]

FrayedKnot · 07/01/2009 20:02

Yes, SB but that sounds terribly useful - there is plenty of sewage about

OTH nowadays I find mine useless except possibly for when going on holiday to Italy

FrayedKnot · 07/01/2009 20:06

Is it OK if I just pop round for a moment or two Franny?

dooneygirl · 07/01/2009 20:19

Nothing like reading about sewage while eating lunch.

I've got a question. I'm sitting here eating a GIANT spinach salad with tons of spinach and carrots and courgettes. How much does that count for? Because I've eaten so much spinach, I'm going to go jump off the nearest bridge if it only counts for one. I can see why eating lettuce doesn't count for much, though.

Not that it counts, but am doing better in other ways. I actually did a crock pot oatmeal with cranberries and spices, and made a big thingy of brown rice, chicken, carmelized onions, feta and grapes for lunches. I don't really "do" oatmeal, or brown rice.

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 20:23

I need to know more asbout the chocolate and orange pudding, Franny. Am impressed by philosohpy.

Dooney, you must eat a cereal bowl full of spinach.

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 20:24

Well done on trying oatmeal and brown rice. I don't much like rice but oatmeal is good, when I remember to make it.

SuperBunny · 07/01/2009 20:25

I don't like green peppers but I have 3. What can I do with them? Are they freezable?

FrayedKnot · 07/01/2009 20:33

I've been ringing and ringing on Franny's doorbell and she's not answering

Ah...dooney...there were lots of "things" I hadn;t tried when I first joined this thread

Can you believe I was a quinoa virgin?

And now I know I feckin' hate the stuff

TinyWhiteFeather · 07/01/2009 20:39

Soup, SB, but then I stick everything in soup. I am the soup queen of the North.

Been for a fab run. Leg OK and time improving. Come on SB, Get running with me...

About to iron, but I don't mind that.

My degree is in Fine Art...and we all know what a lot of bollox useful degree that is to have. But I had a brilliant time and loved every minute of it. And I do 'get' blobs of blue tack on the wall (unfortunately). Marcel Duchamp has a lot to answer for.

Off to work, hey-ho, .

dooneygirl · 07/01/2009 20:41

SB, you can cut them into pieces and freeze them. They will be fine, but mushier. I only use frozen peppers in things that I'm cooking.

And I've eaten more than a cereal bowl full of spinach. I promise. And there was a whole carrot and I'm not sure how much of the zucchini in it. AND there was a homemade raspberry vinaigrette. And sunflower seeds, which I know don't count.

I actually really like quinoa. Which is odd.

Why don't you go kick down her door if she's not answering.

OsmosisFaLaLaLaLa · 07/01/2009 20:44

Just nipping in for a quick boast...

a) I have been veggie and non-drinking for 3 days

b) I got a first in my nutrition assignment.

FrayedKnot · 07/01/2009 20:56

Hey OsBa - that's brilliant! All of it!
