For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello.
feeling kind of flat, stuff to do but just feel like walking. Can't settle to anything but have work to do.
It's kind of comforting reading the thread,
Not a good time to be on my own I suppose, no distractions, so contact with folk is nice.

Not eating much at all but mostly f&v whan I do.

lemur, my house isn't spotless, it is an ongoing struggle, it is grimy from the greasy traffic fumes, dusty cos it is old and needs renovating and a mess because there are 3 horders in the house.

So, it is wet, i'm lonely, the house is getting me down, i'm tired and i'm not even sure I have the energy to get out for a run or anything. Maybe a walk will do the trick.

sorry.

TWF - you are being too hard on yourself. Do what ever you need to do at the moment, whether that be eating chocolate or going for a run, it doesn't matter.

And most of all, don't apologise

stuffitllama · 12/01/2009 14:12

Tiny would you like some cake, it has blackberry jam in it which counts today only, special offer as fran is in London.

i ran around with the dog in the garden so I had four slices that means you can have five or six

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 14:29

Into The Wild was very sad. My friends were very cross with the man at the end. I think they didn't reallt get it. Or maybe I was too involved.

Will try to do some sort fo dried fruit compoote Toot thanks. Need to go shopping soon.

TWF hope you are feeling better. My alarm didn't go off this morning so I feel all rushed and not ready for the day. Need coffee.

Guadalupe · 12/01/2009 14:49

Walking is very good. I agree. Helps clear the head.

I didn't feel frustrated as such, just sad that it ended like that, especially as he seemed to be realising he did want to be with people or whatever he said about happiness at the end. I assume the film was pretty true to his journal? And he wrote his proper name too. Really felt for that old man and his family too. Amazing scenery though, quite a breathtaking film in parts I thought.

How long is Franny is London? I bet she is eating cake.

Ham and rice salad with homemade (not by me) picalilli (sp?) and peppers and cucumber and chai. It's dull here.

TooTicky · 12/01/2009 14:58

Why is it all rainy? I didn't order rain.

littlerach · 12/01/2009 15:03

Rain is rubbish.

Marmite on toast
Hot water

God thta's crap isn't it?

Am haing left over Moorish Chickpeas after work tonight though to make up for it.

How you doing tooT? How has your dd1 got on at school?

Guadalupe · 12/01/2009 15:07

I quite like rain. But then I like winter and cold and bleak and I feel slightly annoyed by spring with all it's poky shoots and soggy grass so don't listen to me.

I have noticed a photo of dd from two years ago with one red eye and one white eye. Would you be worried? I have never seen it in any other picture and I didn't know about it then. Hmm.

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 15:09

It seemed like such a terrible waste Guad. Especially as the whole thing could have been avoided if he'd taken a map. My friends were angry becauser they said 'he had everything and threw it away' but I didn't see it the same way. Breathtaking scenery as you said.

No rain here but more snow on the way.

Need to visit friend's DD in hospital but have DS so can't. Not sure what to do about it.

FairLadyRantALot · 12/01/2009 15:11

HI All...have skimmed posts since I posted last...but no time for more than that.
SB- I just watched the movie "Atonement" last night(I watched it a couple of month ago, but didn't think I would like it, and did other things on the side, and than realised it was a good movie)...and I can see why the book could be confusing.

Cllemetyne/Clementeen...oh I don't know, lol...we buy Satsumas

littlerach, I see you do like them moorish chickpeas

Well, yesterday I had:
Banana
Cherries
Apple
Homemade Lasagne (Tomatoes-fresh and tinned, Basil, Onion, Mushrooms, Garlic, Spinach, Peppers[red and yellow])

ca. 8 portions I would say!

Today so far:
Red Grapes
Green Grapes
Chickpeas
Mushrooms
Pineapple
Apple

(ca. 8 portions all in all...and still Dinner to go...which will add Cauliflower, Broccoli and Carrots....)

Must pick up Kids and then get on wiht this Learning Package...and gotta pick my Cat up soon...she is at the vets, as she had to be spayed....

TooTicky · 12/01/2009 15:13

She's okay thankjs LR. She'd like it better if the oher pupils were more interested in work than annoying each iother though. And she gets a lot of nerd comments

I don't dislike rain as such, I just didn't want any today. It's about this time of year I start to crave spring sunshine. If we're not going to have any more snow that is.

TooTicky · 12/01/2009 15:15

Guad, do you mean she actually has one red eye and one white and you never noticed? Or is it just in the photo?

Hello FairLady
I think you're going to need a sticker.

Guadalupe · 12/01/2009 15:31

Exactly, SB, use a map and you can work your way around the river!

Toot - I mean there is a photo where one eye is red and one eye is white. There have been a lot of threads recently about this being a symptom of retinoblastoma in rare cases. Apparently it should always be checked out. I was putting the photos in folders, can't see it in any other one though. Might ring the gp. Is probably something to do with angle and reflection.

TinyWhiteFeather · 12/01/2009 16:44

I'd speak to the doctor Guad, just to set your mind at ease.

for your DD1 Toot, will have to come up with a 'plan' so they leave her alone, if nothing else.

Mmmmmmm cake, stuffit! I like cake!

Got out for a walk, and at least shook the self pity. It poured with rain, and once I get into the swing of it, I love walking in the pouring rain. It is very levelling. (and WET!)

Can I have a sticker 'just because'....? (I want one)

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 17:00

Poor DD1 Toot.

Guad the eye thing sounds a bit strange but hopefully is nothing to worry about.

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 17:20

Do gherkins count?

TooTicky · 12/01/2009 18:36

Oh I see Guad. I hope there isn't a problem.

dooneygirl · 12/01/2009 18:45

The weather people said it was supposed to be beautiful this weekend and probably for at least 7 day. So far all it has done is be incredibly foggy and rain off and on. I think the fog might be easing a bit, but that's all.

I have to go help at the kids' school today. With the snow and school break, I haven't done it for a month. I don't want to do it. I'd much rather stay home and do stuff here.

Are gherkins pickles or something like that?

BBBee · 12/01/2009 18:56

hello bastards

no time to read thread cos you all talk too much

we are called a cllique here

okay will read thread.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

TigerFeet · 12/01/2009 19:01

Mmmmm I love piccallilli (or however you spell it). Mine isn't homemade though, by myself or anyone else, it's courtesy of Asda.

Guad, I'd get it checked out, just in case, or you'll be fretting and probably fretting unneccessarily.

Glad you got out for a walk TWF. You are allowed to be sad you know. Be nice to yourself, eat cake, walk, talk to us, whatever you need.

Poor DD1 TooT. That's how I remember my own school days tbh. In the end I palled up with another nerd and then found a load more nerds at 6th form college. University saw a seemingly endless supply of like minded nerds. I think that she is probably going through the crappest stage of education now in terms of fitting in if you aren't considered one of the gang. Not sure what to suggest really other than finding other children who see where she is coming from.

SB 100x wouldn't let me have pickles. Apparently all the goodness has been drowned in vinegar. However, I see them as the antithesis of fruit juice - you get the fibre but none of the goodness. Perhaps one could chase pickles down with a glass of juice and count it all as one portion? [sighs] If only Franny were here to rubber stamp my plan

I am trying really hard to be a good vegger. It's tough when all I want are mini eggs and toast with real butter

Salad (2)
Apple
Stir Fry (3 or possibly even 4)
Satsumas ()
picalilli and orange juice

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 19:05

Argh! I wrote a message for here but posted on the wrong thread and since it begins with I expect that it will confirm that 10/10 is indeed a clique.

Anyway, here it is:

DS is being particularly shouty today. I asked him nicely if he'd go back in his room since it is still 'rest time' and he yelled, "No, don't say that to me EVER again? It's not fine and I don't like it. NEVER EVER say that to me. Okay?" hmm

SuperBunny · 12/01/2009 19:09

TF, I like your reasoning. Perhaps if I drink juice AND eat a gherkin (yes, pickle to you, Dooney) that could count as 1. I fear ahundred is right though. Shame. I could easily eat 10 gherkins. I love that word. Gherkin.
