For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

stuffit is it a proper mela with music and dancing and colours and food and everything?

OP posts:
stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 10:08

Just got back..well not really ..it was run by the American school and was like a Christmas fete back home but with lots of local retailers selling lace, crafts, jewellery etc. The music was loudspeaker carols, not really as awful as it might sound, with intermittent raffle prizes and "we have a real honey of a lost little girl here at the booth" and so on. Shall I say it was a fusion event.

I bought a sweater knitted by ladies in the Himalayas and some blocks of rough soap, and the sweater smells of incense and is lovely. And spent a fortune on food and buns and raffle tickets and ice cream. I think it makes masses of money for local charities. My dd disappeared and bought my Christmas present. She's happy today.

It was quite sweet, but when I want to buy things I generally go out into town and into the markets, which are amazing. I've been to a few melas but obviously not a propr one.

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 10:18

whoops had to go , some people came over a bit earlier than I expected. I don't think I've been to a proper mela then fmv, the ones I go to are all about selling things..

filthymindedvixen · 16/11/2008 10:57

not sure I have either...Been to one in Bradford and it was like a carnival, with dancing displays, and fabulous food stalls, and thousands of people promenading, and live music. There were lots of stalls with henna painting and sari fabrics and plastic tat! Was fecking cold though.

OP posts:
stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 13:18

oh no I haven't been to one like that though there WAS henna painting, it's a bit like face-painting though -- always pops up next to the bouncy castle. V hot for Christmas fete. Tears stung when I saw the Christmas tree, first one this year. But it's goign to be great here, we are either having a real one in a pot that will last three years or cut something off the top of something in the garden. It feels like India is covered in tinsel since Divali anyway. Divali was fab with millions of candles, dancing, fireworks. but it was lovely

an apple

pinkspottywellies · 16/11/2008 18:31

Happy Birthday little OsBa! Is it a rite of passage to get your own fb page at 2 now?

Haven't caught up. Going to bed now. Was poorly last night got about 3 hours sleep. Feel horrendous Sis had fab bday though and we really enjoyed it.

Catch up soon.

littlerach · 16/11/2008 19:29

Stuffit, that sounds ace. Bette rthan the usual tombola we have

WE went to Savenake forest yesterday for a walk. It took us an hour to get there, then couldn't find the cycle path sp abandoned girls' bikes and walked through the woods. For half an hour. Then it started ot get dusky so came home, via supermarket for supper.
Nevermind.

Crap F&V this weekend.

Have been to Streer shoppping village today for Xmas shopping, and bought some that I needed. It was busy. And there was a fake ice skating rink and a grotto.
But it's only mid November

Dd1 is being very difficult again. She will not be nice to dd2 at all, unless bribed into it. And she was rude to me too many times. She is extremely well behaved at school though.

filthymindedvixen · 16/11/2008 19:41

no no not boring!! tell me more about divali! DH and I spent our honeymoon in Goa at the very tail end of divali and it felt so magical, with fireworks and fairy lights just for us

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 16/11/2008 19:42

I am rather glum and depressed at the moment so I want to hear of sparkly things...

cabbage, beans, carrots, brocolli, parsnips, leeks, raspberries, satsuma.

OP posts:
stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 20:07

Hi Rach, swop you a chicken tikka wrap for a walk in the forest.. ! You have made me fret about shopping. Glad you got some of yours done. Bit early for a grotto no? I like having all shopping done early then can enjoy December and Christmas activities without freaking out or feeling guilty. Not going to happen this year that's for sure.

Am having trouble with my dd too. Today she's been great but recently started giving us real heartache with yelling and screaming. Have got some ideas on how to deal from a thread I started. How old are yours? My daughter is 11.

Fmv it was very sparkly, sorry to hear about the glum and depressed. We went to Goa ages ago and didn't have an awfully good time so I like hearing stories about how nice it is and which bits are good to visit.

We were staying in a sort of encampment in the gardens of a big palace (ahem we couldn't afford the palace) and had dinner surrounded by hundreds of candles, and there were dancers who performed magic tricks and generally amazed the children. Ds1 joined in the dancing and with a smile . But in town it was also fun ..Jaipur's side streets had roofs of tinsel, and in Delhi I saw roadworks and buses with tinsel strung around. The fireworks went on all week. Has something triggered the glumness?

not doing well.. a kitkat. Why is some horrible person having a go at Boco?

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 20:08

You must be very tired after your early start.. can you sneak off early tonight?

littlerach · 16/11/2008 20:17

Hmm, maybe a vegetable bhuna???!!!
They also had fake snow at Street

Dd1 is 8 in the spring, dd2 is just 4.
I had a thread about dd1 a few months ago, as she was becoming hard work. Dh actually got cross with her tonight and stopped her from reading when she went ot bed.

FMV, what's up? Winter b;ues, or worse?

I am reading a fab book about dog sledding in Canada/Alaska and now want real cold weather, not rubbish damp drizzle.

filthymindedvixen · 16/11/2008 20:21

hello LittleRQch, long time...!
ach, think it's just winter blues combined with a fall-out with a close friend. Possibly caused by my winter blues. FMV will eat herself....

Stuffit, it was 13 years ago, almost exactly since our honeymoon...(we married in the June, but obv, couldn't go to Goa then.)
we were there for 3 weeks and it was splendiferous. Possibly just before it got really seedy and horrible.

Another classic title

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 20:39

Happy anniversary then fmv? We were there 1992 and I remember a lot of continental gentlemen wearing white thongs -- it was eye popping

virtual chicken bhuna being vibed your way rach

I hope dd1 has a good day tomorrow ..one good day can really lift the spirits and give energy for future patience and calmness don't you think?

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 20:40

I mean underwear thongs not flip flop thongs

strolling behind them on the beach was distracting and walking towards was a real conversation stopper

filthymindedvixen · 16/11/2008 20:45

I do not use this lightly but - eeeeuuueeeewwww!
Take the image away. Please....pass the bleach.

I got to fullfill 4 lifetime ambitions.
ride on an elephant on the beach
see shooting stars
see dolphins
doh! and be in India. Well, India-lite...

Hello everyone

It's nice to be home

Visit was not too bad considering although I have had period pain on and off all weekend

Mou have you ever tried your tens for period pain?

Have had lots of veg but not much fruit...tomorrow I am going to send myself to bootcamp

Boco have you been drving on your own yet?

mou · 16/11/2008 21:04

Stuffit, I was up at 7;45, so am starting to feel a little jaded but come fitted with duracell batteries so have some more mileage in me yet.

Been hit by insomnia again Daisy, 'tis almost like an old friend and is how I found this thread.

Ah, no stuffit, Divali sounds fascinating and fabulous to be there. What an experience.

Pink I hope you get some sleep and feel better soon. And warm comforting thoughts for fmv, may your glumness soon be banished. Don't eat yourself, come and be cossetted and pampered.

Who is being mean to Boco? ffs!
(uncharacteristic MOU frown, why can't people leave well alone)

Lr, sympathies on difficult DC's, it hurts doesn't it?.

Wow, Quattrocento....cool.

Not much from me. Ok day at MiL's. I am a 'darling' at the moment, instead of the mother of the children from hel!!

mou · 16/11/2008 21:12

FK, I tried Tens for period pains for first time this week. I am a little strange as I quite like the tens thing. It also calmed my IBS down, allthough I don't get it much now. I am very impressed overall.

I might have an early night as I am up at the crack of dawn on mondays and tuesdays. Not a brill job but the couple I work with make me laugh and give me free kitkats!!

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 21:21

Hi Mou, how did you manage to become a darling? I mean with mil not generally. Do share.

I think everyone should have early nights actually, everyone in the world. They solve so many problems. YOu sound like you deserve one Mou.

Am only up late as am trying to stick pictures on the Christmas round robin. My computer is chock full and being very slow about sending them over to word from the library.

but guess what tomorrow when I go to post them I automatically go to the front of the queue because I am a woman. They have a policy. It's to prevent harassment I think.

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 21:22

ps hello quattro and thanks for reassurance on girls

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:12

Hello all! I think I am arrived as you all start to snooze

Poor FMV don't be blue. Is it hang over from the full moon?

I don't have India story but my honeymoon was in Norway and we planned nothing being exhausted by wedding so it was full of surreal and mostly wonderful surprises. We had one night in a hotel booked, for first night, we were the only people there not for a Scholl shoe convention. That was odd

but we took trains up the coast and a packet ship and stayed in A in the Lofoten Islands and saw the Northern Lights and that was very magical indeed. They were all greeen and shot off around the sky. It was wondrous and splendiferous and makes me smile to think of it now

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:14

Mou- glad your MIL thinks you a darling, you need some breaks
hope Toot got on ok with hers

LR and Stuffit sorry you have DD problems, mine is only 2 so no help at all other than a stroke and a pat and is there anything specific we can help with?

WHO is being horrid to Boco and why joining Mou

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:17

Mou, sorry insomnia has hit again, do rest even if you don't sleep

I was up late because I had work to do having been ill and am thinking I should get supper and go to bed since its 10:15 already...

Pear, kiwi, orange juice, apple, green beans, carrots, cabbage, parsnip, peas, sweetcorn, banana, leeks
