For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Oh heck, that was meant to say 12 - I have done 12 portions!!

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 22:25

Hi Daisy want to say hello though I am steaming off to bed right now for a good ooooohhhh -- two hours sleep before getting up to iron PE kits currently drying under the fan.

Well done on f and v. You need a badge

night ! xx

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:27

Stuffit! We pass as ships in the night at last!

Only 2 hours sleep? you sound like Mou
I shall await a sticker from Pink
xx

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:27

Oh, cool badge, thanks Stuffit!

stuffitllama · 16/11/2008 22:30

Not like mou -- I could sleep like a log but jobs, you know, jobs. Insomnia is worse I think.

But am going to bed NOW!

zzzzz

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:33

Go Stuffit!!

TooTicky · 16/11/2008 22:35

Just popping in, have skimmed thread and love you all!!

Fmv, I'm so sorry you are glum
{{{{{{{{{{sparkly hugs with fruity bits}}}}}}}

Is Boco okay?

Mou, I will email. It is me who is/was the asthmatic. I think ds1 would be diagnosed as well maybe if I took him to GP, but he doesn't get it often.

Stuffit, yes, let's talk angsty girls!! Some time this week?

LittleRach, I love the sound of Savernake - so evocative. Have never been though.

MIL is very lovely really

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:36

Toot, so glad you have survived and it sounds like you had fun! goody!

I had lovely weekend with my sister and her kids and on Saturday just lurking and playing with DS so all happy and off to bed

TooTicky · 16/11/2008 22:37

Daisy, that Milton business sounds like a nightmare!! Blimey.

daisy99divine · 16/11/2008 22:44

It is funny now, over a year later. Of course it coincided with my DH being away. All crises do - the dog being ill, the baby being ill, the house flooding, machines blowing up - you name it

What made me cross was that poor DS had horrid ABs and didn't need them. Next doctor I saw breezily said, no its not impetigo, its a skin allergy and gave me a bath wash. Two days later, DS right as rain!!

Mind you we could eat off any surface of the house for some time in total safety

mou · 17/11/2008 00:26

Not always a darling to MiL! Have also been called an embarrasment, dodgy mum and wife!!! But I think at 89 I can forgive her. Not sure what I have done. She bought me flowers a couple of weeks ago and it made me nervous. We have an interesting relationship and she does get very matriarcal(?), but I am happy to let her as I am not the competetive sort. Live and let Live!....and I always have my magic island.

Definately NOT the 'darling' sort normally though. Lol.

Trying to think of scholl/honeymoon jokes but brain vacant.

Mou covers the yurt clock up.

Hey Toot...

Sleep thing wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the children as I have always been like this, but they do so like you to be on the ball in the morning instead of looking like an extra fom a zombie film.

I suspect I am waffling again.

Banana,
(disgusting tasteless) apricots x2,
cauliflower,
broccoli,
baked beans,

Hello Lovelies

Fab thread title.

Stuffit, is your dog new?

LOL @ Boco's inlaws being 'bonkers - v. polish' My family are like that too

Mou, I love the boots and whip

Hello everyone .

littlerach · 17/11/2008 11:22

Morning all.

I feel very lucky that I have no sleep problema at all. Dh used to get up inthe early hours of the norning if he couldn't slepp and go on pc etc. Dd2 seems to have his sleep genes too, but fortunatley dd1 has always been a good sleeper (like me!)

More rain

I got an ottoman from Freecycle last week but it desperatley needs re covering and am trying ot summon up the energy to do so.

TooTicky, there is an NCT sale near you on 29th of this month.

FrannyandZooey · 17/11/2008 12:32

sympathies for sleep and in laws

my sleep is better lately as have been leaving ds2 to whinge himself back to sleep unless he is hungry, rather than insert nipple at every squeak
this has had hoped for effect of making him not wake up for up to 5 hours at a time, rather than every 45 mins, so am fair chuffed
and he only had a to whinge a bit, not cry properly, and I was right next to him so am not feeling guilty

as for inlaws I think we have done virtually same thing with same effect
left them to whinge while more or less ignoring them, which has the effect we hardly ever hear from them now
marvellous

anyway
done my 10 mins exercise, more like 20 I reckon, some stuff on fit ball with big bottle of water dumb bell

for lunch had beetroot, tomato, cuc, red pepper, and egg mayonnaise made with preposterous grating gadget I bought yesterday at good food show
it kind of grinds the stuff
am hoping to get ds1 on grating duty from now on as it is quite easy and you can't grate your knuckles
it does nuts also
there I knew you would all be thrilled

calves ache from endless hanging around on underground
trains were banjaxed yesterday, we took hours to get home and the train was rammed
luckily ds2 a great favourite with whole carriage (well in my deluded mind anyway, heh)

FrannyandZooey · 17/11/2008 12:35

oh I meant to tell you i had to video myself for a work thing this week and I was APPALLED by my twangy voice LOL
i thought of you all freaking out at the meet up last year
in my head I am BBC English and then I hear this bizarre essex lunnon sarf east hybrid twanging all over the place
thank god ds1 speaks nicely, much nicer than me, with only the odd 'innit' and 'sumfink' thrown in which I now know originate from me

filthymindedvixen · 17/11/2008 12:54

I must admit, it throws me on here when you say Ruddy (Nora), as it is a very northern expression (to my mind) and I know your voice is not nothern, oh no siree! So I love when you say it - but it is sort of like seeing someone who normally wears no make up wearing bright red lippy! Incongruous, that is the word!

Someone has asked me to sing a solo verse of an xmas carol at a gathering and I desperately need to find a way to record myself so I can hear if I sound like Cara Dillon (in my dreams) or a horse farting (more likely)
Because in my head, I sing fabulously

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 17/11/2008 14:28

How lovely to be asked, FMF.

I speak the queen's english min my head too. When I lived in Yorks I had a slight northern twang (I had to speak like that at work because otherwise the children never understood me) but now I think I have a strange accent - a southern English one with American intonation. It's very odd and I am rather I promised I would speak proper English when I moved over here but I seem to be failing.

mou · 17/11/2008 14:48

Franny, your grater thingy reminded me of when I used to work in a stately home cafe and the waitresses used to prepare the sandwich fillings, long before you could buy it all prepackaged, and regularly used to grate our knuckles into the cheese, and no, we didnt do anything about it. Back in the day before stringent health and safety came into being.....

Finished my jobs, put the eleccy blanket on and got back in my pj's and went back to bed. Mmmmmmmm lovely. I love naughty naps!

Impressed at singing fmv. All is well on the Mou Island if I am singing. In tune but no great voice.
What song is your verse from?
I get excited as I can get my christmas CD's out on the 1st of December and belt out cheesy Christmas songs and drive everyone mad.

Just found an emergency tin of rice pudding! Not the real thing but a passable copy so am now feeling thoroughly replenished. Contented Monday sigh Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.

TigerFeet · 17/11/2008 14:49

aha! Found you!

off to read thread

TooTicky · 17/11/2008 14:55

SB, dd1 was reading out strange American laws yesterday and apparently in Illinois, it is illegal to speak English - has to be American So watch out!!

I hate the way I speak. From time to time people ask to speak to my mummy or daddy on the phone at which point I say hello again but in a slightly deeper voice. Sometimes this still doesn't work

Franny, tell me about your miraculous thing that grinds nuts.

I have to go and rush about in a minute. I have to pick up dd1, buy her a school tracksuit, buy myself a watch (I put mine in the oven on advice from the jeweller and it is still wet inside) then rush home and feed people then go backl to the same town to take dd1 to her theatre group. I may take the others swimming to save having to come and go again.
And then we have two days of hospital. Well, I do. I must not forget to take my crochet.

Lots of love to you all.

Mou, I will email later, honest!!

mou · 17/11/2008 15:02

S'ok Toot, no worrries. Will be good to hear from you but at your leisure. Especially with hospital coming up.

TooTicky · 17/11/2008 15:02

Fmf, that's lovely

Hello TF and Mou

I'm just waiting for dp to come back with the car

OsmosisBOOnana · 17/11/2008 15:05

My car has been blocked in by idiotic student drivers. This happened also on Friday.

So I could be stuck at uni a long time.

Joy.

It is too hot in here.

TooTicky · 17/11/2008 15:06

Oh dear OB, how annoying!!

SuperBunny · 17/11/2008 15:22

OB

Toot, you sound really busy. Hope all goes well tomorrow.

Mou, I'll email you too.I got your message and initially thought it was spam but I opened it anyway and then got worried, thinking, "Goodness, this person seems to know an awful lot about me, how scary" then I realised it was you and it all made sense. Am a bit slow on Monday mornings.

Snow.
