For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Off to grandmas now, to spend obscene amounts of dosh at all the fabulous little shops she has in her home town. Unlike my town which is now Shopping Mall, Any Street, Any Town

see you all tomorrow

Boco · 29/10/2008 15:17

Hello, can doctor avoiders recommend alternatives to going to gp? My throat feeling worse and is covered in white spots - temp is 102 (obsessive now I have thermometer for first time) I really can't swallow so not eaten since yesterdays tiffin, even drinking too painful. Does it sound like tonsillitis? I feel SO rubbish and shivery. I want dp to stroke my hair and bring hot drinks but he's CRAP at sympathy, and has gone to work anyway. Can't get appointment til friday so figure no point. Have no cider vinegar, what else would work?

Ghouladalupe · 29/10/2008 15:36

White spots = tonsillitis = emergency appointment = antibiotics = feel better by tomorrow.

Poor you.

Boco · 29/10/2008 15:40

My gp doesn't work this evening so no surgery. Will see if I can get one in the morning, but means walking a mile and can't imagine feeling up to that atm. Will see, maybe I'll feel a bit better tomorrow. How's ds2? Am doing his shivery bottom lip thing.

Ghouladalupe · 29/10/2008 15:45

You must be able to speak to a doctor when yours isn't there. Out of hours? Say you have white spots all over the tonsils with pus pouring down your throat and a raging fever and you would like a prescription for penicillin faxed through to your pharmacy this afternoon, thank you very much.

Ds is not better today poor mite. Spots everywhere and he's quite ill with it.

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 16:04

Ummm
I am a bit slow and a bit new, I wonder if L&R used to sprinkle mango seeds around a lot? Am hoping so

MamaG get pushing - I only got to 36 weeks so what do I know?!?!

love the piccies Boco

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 16:05

Boco so sorry about flu - get emergency gp - If unsure phone NHS direct? 0845 46 47

Boco · 29/10/2008 16:12

I called the GP and they said no - and they wouldn't even give me an appointment for tomorrow, said I'd have to get in the queue in the morning - even with talk of tonsils and spots, very unimpressed. But then I don't really want to get dressed and walk for ages in the cold either.

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 16:14

that's no help at all! sorry to have no good ideas
I am intrigued, if a little disgusted, by cider and garlic gargle
hope you feel better soon

MamaG · 29/10/2008 16:26

Boco that does sound like it could be tonsillitis - I used to suffer terribly.

You could try gargling with warm salty water (spit it out) or drinking warm water with honey & lemon juice (and a bit of whiskey)

If you can bear to, take soluable paracetamol as often as you're allowed, but gargle with it before you swallow.

Poor you - but do go to GP in the morning if you can bear to, it will go much quicker with some anti bs

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 17:10

I find gargling aspirin is better

littlerach · 29/10/2008 17:14

WE have been to Avebury and looked att the stones and wandered around.
It was v cold though.

Dds made pumpkin masks and did a tresaure trail and won gem stones - cool!

Dh making curry for tea

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 19:02

I've done tonsilitis sans doctor. Fluids'n'things. Smoothies. Y'know.

Huge get well vibes to Boco and Carrotty family.

Oh Guad, I haven't emailed you yet but thank you so much and I love you!!!

LoveandRockets, come over here for a mo - just stand here - that's it. A little closer? Oh, I am SO sorry, I appear to have chained you to the yurt. Key? There is no key. Have a mango.

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 19:13

LittleRach, were the activities good at Avebury? And were they expensive? The only details
I can find online appear to be for last year

Oh, Monkey World are doing free entry on halloween for anyone in costume. We're going. Anybody for a mini meet-up?

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 19:14

FrannyandZooey · 29/10/2008 19:34

FrannyandZooey · 29/10/2008 19:35

littlerach · 29/10/2008 19:37

WE have NT membership so git in free, TooTicky, then the tresaure hunt was £1.50 and they all got a prize.

This is up to date: Avebury

The crafts wre all free.
There is a fancy dress thing on for Friday and story telling.

We may go here tomorrow.

littlerach · 29/10/2008 19:38

Hello Franny

How's the baby?

FrannyandZooey · 29/10/2008 19:40

fat, nice

at avebury
i camped by the stones one year for the solstice; blimey that must have been a while ago to get away with it! a sheep tried to come in the tent in the morning

Ghouladalupe · 29/10/2008 20:24

Hooray - you are back as yourself, this is much less unsettling. I'm glad baby is fat and nice. How is ds1 getting on and indeed you?

I have had a cheeseboard for dinner, with wine and butterscotch green and blacks for pudding. I am very full. I must eat more fruit but I just don't famcy any in the morning at the moment, not even in porridge.

Boco - That's rubbish. What a rubbish service, I would complain. I suppose you don't have choice of surgeries in the country though do you? I always speak to a doctor the same day and if there are no appointments I have a telephone one and if they need to see me I go at the end of surgery but quite often they fax a prescription to my chemist. Much better. Do they have a fax at your gp or do the medicines go in corked bottles with a boy on a bicycle?

You can get rid of it without abs of course, but you do have to stay the distance, ie, stay in bed and gargle and rest for ages.

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 20:51

LittleRach, I didn't realise it was in the NT bit. We are EH members so tend to avoid NT.

Franny [big kiss]

I have a vat of cooked apple. Help yerselves

Ghouladalupe · 29/10/2008 20:59

What did you think, Toot? Pretty good eh? You are meant to keep those in the fridge I forgot to say.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/10/2008 21:18

Evening veggers, any room in the yurt?

Have been AWOL for a while as DS has been ill, so have been on wailing toddler duty.

Also as have been shamefully neglecting my own diet in favour of trying to persuade DS to eat something. All he's had today is a mouthful of pasta and a cereal bar. I tried telling him of the benefits of 10/10 but he wasn't interested.

Better day for me today though as my mum came to help (bless her):

sweetcorn
2 tangerines
kiwi
spinach
mushroom
juice

Boco sorry to hear you're not feeling good - hope you feel better soon
