For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

gawd i don't know who anyone is
whatfreshhell is a superb name

ds1 lurches from being sublime to atrocious, Guad
I muttered today to dp "I have heard about this wonderful place....it is called school..." and ds1 heard and was mortally offended LOL

seriously though he never shuts up
and oh god why did i think it was a good idea to home educate so that he could ask as many questions as he wanted and his enquiring mind would not be crushed
oh god if ONLY his enquiring mind would be a bit crushed

i am a bit better I think. being back at work has given me a boost. ds2 is easy although i guess a bit tiring, the nights and carrying him about etc. but ds1 is a piece of work and no mistake. bless 'im. he is CRACKERS about ds2. long may it last

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/10/2008 21:32

Hello Franny! I used to be LittleMyDancing, you might not know that name either of course

Stumbled into the yurt accidentally the other day and haven't looked back.

Know what you mean about that enquiring spirit - DS has just started getting into his stride with the endless 'Why?' questions - he's only 2.5. I found myself saying 'you shouldn't be like this till you're 3!' but strangely he's not interested in appropriate milestones.

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 21:46

Hello Franny

I like the yurt a lot. Now you are chained here you will soon realise it is still yours {hgrin]

I have opened my MN prize. It is as ghastly as predicted in a straingely fascinating way. Baby lies, drinks bottle and "continues to make cute noises" - as the instructions say....

Obviously DS LOVES it

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 21:47

By the way, Franny, I don't get to spend much time in yurt proper, I am mostly in the Pit with Whips
because I am a bit hopeless with the F&V but I do so like it in here

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 21:47

Hello LMD

laugh outloud at DS being too young to ask WHY????

FrightKnot · 29/10/2008 21:49

We have new recruits, Franny.

It's been terribly exciting. They are very keen.

Mou runs phenomenal distances and we all collapse just at the mere mention of her cross country endeavours.

Glad to hear DS1 & 2 doing well. Do not think for a minute that school means an easier life.

DS has been awful since he started. And since I work during the bits when he is at school, it means my life is basically either stuck at a desk or dealing with some kind of complicated tantrumming paddying argument. Hoorah.

FrightKnot · 29/10/2008 21:52

Thanks TooT. The apple is delicious

Ghouladalupe · 29/10/2008 22:03

Fk is right, Franny, school does not necessarily mean less trouble, it comes with its own unique tiresome irritations that make me glad it's half term. However, there is that feeling of calm and quiet some days where you drop them off and go about your day and get work done and have one child to play with etc and they're tired after school and it's all calm and marvellous.

Then there are lunches and letters and mean teachers and good teachers but mean children and heaven forbid maybe even your own child is mean and then there are the parents and the secretary and the nits and the sick and so on. DS1 never really settled in well but dd is there on the carpet with her arms folded ready to start every day. I think ds could have benefited from HE early on but there we are are. I didn't do it. He likes school now.

I enjoy half term, but the questions and the vastly different levels that you are having conversations on (big age gaps) can be exhausting and like an assault on the brain and I do quite a bit of temple rubbing and drink quite a bit of wine but mostly it's great and we have fun.

I'm not sure what I'm sayng really, except, maybe drink more wine.

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 22:10

It's the lunch boxes I hate particularly.

TooTIfYouAreScared · 29/10/2008 22:11

Ds2 asked me earlier, "Mum, what are you going to be when you're properly grown up?"

I told him I wasn't sure.

FrightKnot · 29/10/2008 22:18

TooT that's really funny, DS & I had the same conversation yesterday, he asked me if I wanted to be soemthing (can;t think what we were talking about now) when I grew up

daisy99malign · 29/10/2008 22:32

Thanks for the apple Toot

DS is starting nursery in January and I'm already wobbly about it

hammouhouseofhorror · 30/10/2008 01:11

Hi franny, heard loads about you

I run fernomiull distances on every one in the yurts behalf because I am an exercise bunny with rechargeable duracell batteries, and i am lucky enough to have the opportunity as my DC's are old enough to neglect understand mummy needs to let off steam.
Love it in the yurt, friendliest and maddest best thread on mumsnet by far.
Average on F&V at the moment but exceed 5 most days.

DD was supposed to go to a friends for a sleep-over, and I missed her....she missed us too and came home. I was secretly delighted and brushed her hair for nearly an hour.

SuperBunny · 30/10/2008 03:30

Hello

Haven't managed to catch up on thread but have skimmed last few posts.

Bananas (2)
Roasted Butternut Squash and apple soup (at least 2)
Pineapple
Baked oatmeal with cranberries and almonds and berries (2)
Salsa (?)
Avocado
Fruit and Nut
Pumpkin seeds ( I know they don't count but they were good so I thought I'd mention them)

9-ish

Nice to see Franny in here. Where's Lully?

LOL @ 'when you are a proper grown up'

hammouhouseofhorror · 30/10/2008 08:26

What a beautiful day..hey hey

Fully charged batteries installed,
Feeling manic hyper, bloody good day to all .

FrannyandZooey · 30/10/2008 08:37

morning again
gosh i'm here again, that quote about crack cocaine is all too true isn't it

sorry if I got anyone's back up about school - i am sure it does have many drawbacks etc and was being a bit flippant in what I was saying
i was just thinking that it would be quite nice to occasionally have some time apart from ds1 without paying through the nose or spending ages organising it
alas

we're down to one apple and 2 rocklike mangoes this morning so taking the shopping trolley into town later
a limit to what I can manage to drag home with fat ds2 on my front - fruit shopping has become a chore instead of a treat atm

CharleeInChains · 30/10/2008 08:47

OOOhhhhhh its you Franny!

I had a really nice day yesterday, alot of positive stuff going down at the CF clinic and a really great rehearsal after a few dismal ones at my Amdram group.

I have been eating alot of grapes and of course my melon and pears.

I have been busy as a beaver making xmas decorations for this year, im not what you would call 'gifted' when it comes to crafts so i'm quite chuffed at what i have managed to do so far.

berolina · 30/10/2008 09:49

Morning fruity friends. Hello Franny

Folks, I am going - see here

I decided to while up at 4.30 am with coughing ds2, and I'm off now so as not to weaken my resolve.

It has been lovely in the yurt. Take care x

daisy99malign · 30/10/2008 10:15

Bero
I am not sure if you will see this, but I am sorry you feel a need to do, or rather sorry that MN has made you feel like a kid on the edge of the playground..

I don't really read the rest of MN but I know that within the Yurt you are well loved and will be missed

daisy99malign · 30/10/2008 10:16

BTW Franny
I didn't think you got any backs up about school you were rightly saying "maybe a bit of distance isn't all bad" and the others were wryly reminding you that "distance isn't all it's cracked up to be"

It made me laugh, life's a funny old game

Good luck with fruity shopping

Banana
apple
satsuma
prunes and apricots (dried)

lionheart · 30/10/2008 10:46

Hello, 10/10ers.

Have not been about MN for a while except a dip here and there. How is everyone?

Boco · 30/10/2008 11:08

Nice to see you back Franny, hope you'll stay. Is like a tag team in here. Bero hope you get lots done and find rl satisfying.

I have antibiotics - dr said YUCK when he looked in my throat. Toot you are hardcore if you can do this without drugs - I can't eat at all and feel rotten. Girls are demanding my attention and I would like to sleep as couldn't last night as had to keep waking up to swallow. Hope they work fast. Went to shop for soup and fruit and stood in the queue and felt so faint and hot that I left all my stuff on the shelf and went home. Might have a second shot at it later.

Boco · 30/10/2008 11:08

Hello Lionheart! Missed you there, how are things with you?

lionheart · 30/10/2008 11:17

Good Boco -- I've finished my book (academic stuff, before you start to think I've been creative). Your work seems to be making an impression here, and that is just fab.

Sorry you are not feeling well.

Ghouladalupe · 30/10/2008 11:19

Franny and Lionhart. What a treat! I saw you on another thread the other day and wondered if you were going to pop in. How are you? It's been ages. Now we just need Avi and Tatties.

Franny - you didn't get my back up, I utterly understand the distance thing, I just often wish I'd kept ds at home when he needed it. I feel a bit bad about that. Anyway, I'm too tired to be up about anything after my night smothering ds2 in calamine. Poor thing was twisting and scratching all night. In the end I just poured it into my cupped hands and smothered him in it. Is there something else I can try?

Bero - does it really make you feel like that? That's such a shame, and probably not the best place for you then. It should be making you feel better, advice, info and larks surely? If you feel miserable more than cheered it's not a break or relaxation is it. I don't think I have ever been on a list, except Lapin's everyone who posted that day one. I laugh in the face of lists, mwah ha ha ha. Sorry, I don't mean to be glib. I wish you well.

I am finding eating fruit a chore as well as buying it, it's toast toast toast every day. .
