We had peaches, we had plums, we had strawberries in the sun, but the peaches and the plums, like the strawberries are all gone - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 21:24

TigerFeet · 05/09/2008 21:24

FK - Canesten once with the antifungal tablet helped clear the thrush then the probiotics have stopped it coming back. Pricey though, cheaper if you can get a prescription.

OB - drink some cranberry juice with yer gin

anyone else need any medical advice?

BBBee · 05/09/2008 21:26

yes TF - that is kind of how I have felt ever since - in a 'am i depressed' quandry.

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2008 21:27

DH has terrible insomnia but no-one has ever suggested ADs. He takes sleeping tablets occasionally, I think they are basically some sort of benzodiazepine, and he has half a tablet when he's having a run of really bad sleep. Nothing else seems to work, although he is careful about not taking them too often.

I get insomnia when depressed, but I think this is a symptom, not the other way around.

I don;t think I'd take AD's unless I was badly depressed. Isn;t there evidence now they don;t really have any effect unless depression is severe?

MamaG · 05/09/2008 21:55

I nip on to say hello and what do I see?

"night bitches"

night then vegbitches!

FK - try an anti-candida diet, ie, no sugar, yeast, bread beer etc and also grapefruit seed extract is supposed to be helpful.

Have read random bits. I have not been on here for TWO DAYS

So, who wanted to book the Shuttle? Which date? Anybody want to volunteer to drive?

Boco, I really hope you can find time for a swimming session for you. I have actually swum properly twice since being a mother and it is good.

OB, you okay? I keep hearing your posts in your voice since we met. Tis odd.

Hello and lots of love to you all and welcome to newcomers.

Dd1 is 12!!! She has spent one day at her new school, has made "loads" of friends (so yah boo to nasty girl!), loves everything about it and wants me to pick her up an hour late every day so she can spend time in the library/computer area of the school.

Ds1 needs an x-ray on his teeth (he has lots) and may need some removed.

I have made a large bowl of tabbouleh (except the mint which I couldn't find in the dark, so must pick in the morning) for a "row of cottages" barbecue tomorrow. Dd1 is making apple cake in the morning, ds1 is hoping to make an invention of his own - lemon doughnut cake - , and ds2 is talking about monkey cake which seems to involve bananas and intricate decoration.

TooTicky · 05/09/2008 23:05

When I can't sleep, I read - which in semi-darkness tires my eyes quite quickly. Usually.
I have a bedtime lighting dilemma - I need something that is not overhead (don't want to get up to switch it off), not mains powered (don't like the switchless sockets in bedroom) and not battery powered (because I hate batteries)

OB, which comics? BF is a cartoonist.

Yes, FK, I think there is reasearch that shows ADs have a placebo effect on depression. Unless it is severe in which case they can make a chemical difference

Yum @ lemon doughnut cake - the TooT household sounds very industrious. You know you can get those torches that you shake so they don't use batteries? They're about $30

My fingers hurt. I have been playing my cello. That's exercise, isn't it? My arms ache and everything.

More bananas, grapes, grapes from the garden (is no-one impressed with my homegrown grapes?), apple, blah

TigerFeet · 06/09/2008 09:03

I didn't know you played the cello UR - it's so beautiful, a really gorgeous sound.

Porridge (sans f&v)
Banana

My youngest brother is a fabulous cartoonist - not published though. He really is very good.

Solar powered torch

Wind up torch

MimsieNet · 06/09/2008 11:23

oh how cruel - having had friend cancel theme park trip, the sun is actually shining here (in a watery way) Big Black clouds though.

My allotment is almost toally under water Have just done rescue mission, Now, what to do with 100 onions, 15 beetroot and some stunted carrots....

Everything else is slugged to death

TooTicky · 06/09/2008 11:26

Hmm, thing is, I'd like it to be more like a lamp than a torch.
Avi, I'm not overly keen on rechargeables either.

Cello? How lovely. They are so rich andf treacly, aren't they? I play the violin - when I have time (ha ha) - and when I am not suffering from recurrent snapping G string. I want to learn to do folky fiddling.

TooTicky · 06/09/2008 11:27

Can you dry the onions in a low oven? [hopeful]

FrannyandZooey · 06/09/2008 12:16

sorry for tetchiness

kisses to you

Am trying to do cleaning / packing B4 tomorrow. DH conveniently put DD down for a nap when I went into town to do Euros / sorting / insurance etc etc. This was at 10:30. Obviously she only slept for 20 mins and is now hooning around like a punk on ketamine or something and won't go back to sleep.

Very helpful.

Cystitis is getting worse. I'm not good at taking 48 hour courses of stuff. Everything feels better so i stop taking it and then of course it is much worse. Joy.

Anyway....

Whatever.

I was thinking in particular of Berkeley Breathed comic strip wise - Bloom county n stuff. Was wondering if still around. Can't find in Waterstones but that doesn't say a great deal. Anyone heard of it? Incredibly funny, especially if you have a slight understanding of american politics.

Have bought Midnight's Children to read on holiday... Ha! Likely.

BBBee · 06/09/2008 13:06

onion maramalade?

fz - have a break if you want - but only if you really have to. I didn;t notice tetchiness and I love hearing and seeing the boys.

I am wracking my brains for something nice to do for DS 9th birthday. He likes trips - not keen on things wiht lots of friends so not a party.

hmm.....

OsmosisBanana · 06/09/2008 13:14

when is his birthday?

OsmosisBanana · 06/09/2008 13:15

Don't be a wally Fran, we need you.
