We had peaches, we had plums, we had strawberries in the sun, but the peaches and the plums, like the strawberries are all gone - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I have just had my first child free day off for 4 months!

I cleaned the house in an hour and had a 4-hour coffee with a friend. Eaten too much leek and potato soup and apple cake. I have an hour before pick-up

MamaG · 08/09/2008 13:57

My thread title suggestions are always shit.

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 14:06

LR, why id DD2 not going to school? All of DS's friends start preschool but because he is born in Sptember and I am skint (and I secretly want to HE), he's not going. I think he'll be a bit disappointed.

Enjoy the prom, Idris. And lunch. Happy Birthday

Hooray for sun & child-free days.

Not sure what is up with me. More BF stuff despite having a lovely weekend together. And upset over a friend who seems to no longer be a friend. And stress re life in general. It'll pass.

What does one do with leeks? I have many.

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 14:25

soup,
au gratin
in a pasta bake?

pinkspottywellies · 08/09/2008 15:30

Hello! I've nearly missed a whole thread! But don't worry I'm back! Boco and Franny I waved at you both on the way past My F&V intake since Thurs is as follows: onion soup, beans, mushrooms, tomato, salad, coleslaw, fruitinis (about 5!) juice (lots), banana. So about 10 Had some very veggy chicken soup when we got back today which my fabby mum had made.

We had a great weekend away which was a little bit spoilt on Sunday night but I don't think F1 is really a 10/10 sport so I won't go into it here!

OsBa the clothes have arrived and both fit and are lovely. Let me know your address and I will send you a little something to cover the postage.

Hope you're all well. Can someone do me a summary - I need to sleep and don't have time to read 900+ messages!

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 16:42

to summarise; franny is having a wee MN break,
Bero is having a wee break (RL stuff).
100 is glowing and bronzed from her holiday and her poor dog is depressed because he got taken on picnics by his odd dog-walker
Some peolple are rather glum (I blame th e weather)]
We have some new recruits
I am feeling cheated due to summer blending straight into November
Boco is having free life coaching and we all want some
OB has bought new jumpers
Guad went to cinema by herself.
LittleRach's little one starts school for first time.
We tried to plan an uplifting bus trip out but people got rebellious and the rest of us ate all the Werther's Originals.

I know there is more but that is all I can remember.....

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 16:51

thread title ideas please, or we will fall into black hole...

''What a Fruitiful Day, hey hey, What A Fruitiful Day. And nothing is impossible in my own vegetable way''
(for the Levellers fans among us)

Tittybangbang · 08/09/2008 17:17

I'll just repeat my earlier suggestion...

"Come ye here knackered mummies, to celebrate the season of mists and mellow fruitnvegfullness"

Oh dear...... I've come over all autumnal and feel the need to quote the whole first verse.....

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells".

Gawd. Keats. So sexy. (it's the mention of clammy cells that does for me every time).

Right:
dried prunes
dried apricots
an orange
a handful of greens
butternut squash/cabbage and courgette curry
an apple

so far

Bad day yesterday. Forgot to take my bag of fruit and veg to work so ended up begging half a chicken sandwich off a client at lunchtime. Ate it gratefully then remembered I'm a vegetarian. [shame]

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 17:45

or ''It Ain't Neccecelery So...''?

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 18:15

I love What a Fruitiful Day... very cheery. Just what we need, I think

I watched 4 Weddings last night and am embarrassed to say that I really enjoyed it. I thought I would have outgrown it but it seems I haven't

LOL @ Titty (I've realised I can call you that) remembering she is vegetarian

Hoping Franny and Bero are ok.

littlerach · 08/09/2008 18:24

Toot, yes, powerful lime, perfect...!

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 19:16

meant to say titty, you need to know that i am very emotional...yeats made me well up...

BBBee · 08/09/2008 19:17

NO!

cakes, crumbles, muffins, jam DO NOT COUNT.

FRANNY!!!!!!

pinkspottywellies · 08/09/2008 19:22

What herbal stuff can you use for a cold?

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 19:26

oh pink, it's hard being pg and ot being able to take anything..
May I recommend Honey cider viengar (honegar) to drink in the morning with water? It is fab for chesty/throaty things.
Make sure you get extra Vit C (dur) and zinc

alliums (leeks, onions, garlic) are good cold-busting foods, also chillis and ginger if you can stomach them.

Other than that, rest, plenty of water and hand-washing.

BBBee · 08/09/2008 19:30

honey and lemon and a duvet and a hot water bottle

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 19:31

whaddya mean, crumble doesn't count?

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 19:32

Pink, I second Bee's solution - duvet, hotwater bottle, and someone waiting on you hand and foot.

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 19:43

and cake...very good for colds...!

SuperBunny · 08/09/2008 19:51

Yes, yes, cake. Or crumble. I think it counts as fruit

OB, I asked my BF about Berkley Breathed and he got all excited. Apparently he writes Opus the Penguin? He rambled on and on about stuff and I switched off, I'm afraid.

filthymindedvixen · 08/09/2008 19:54

so, how close do the wire shall we go before starting a new thread....?
