We had peaches, we had plums, we had strawberries in the sun, but the peaches and the plums, like the strawberries are all gone - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

can't imagine you squashy, Franny. It is not selfish to feel - I treasure my just-ds2-and-me times tbh.

My few weeks of 3.5 days at work don't start until next week which means I am home with ds2 today. ds1 is at Lovely Kindergarten by himself dh took him and stayed for second breakfast then went off to work. Am waiting for a call but dh said he left him for 1.5 hours yesterday and he was absolutely fine and didn't want to leave.

berolina · 04/09/2008 08:57

oh no f+v yet.

Right. Am snowed under.

Please can someone find me public transport routes / links from Lisbon airport to Baleal Beach in Portugal?

No? Ah well, I guess work will have to wait.

Worth a try.

tooticky - thanks for the thought but dd is 9 now with legs up to her armpits. Haven't got a more recent picture of her on mn because she seems to be scowling in every single one I've taken over the past two years. She's got long, tangled dark hair now and can do a wicked Amy Winehouse impersonation..... And we're drowning in clothes here - she has two cousins who hand everything down and I can't shut her draws at the moment!

fmv - the bread thing. I'm so with you there. Good god, we've got a BREADMAKER but I'm still too untogether to organise a loaf of homemade bread every day. How hard can it be to just tip the ingredients in and set the timer? And yet I still never get round to it - end up buying shite bread with mould inhibitors in it from the supermarket every time. Yuck.

OsmosisBanana · 04/09/2008 09:35

transport sorted. as you were.

now need to sort swimming item. Even more frightening.

Sarah Palin

Ho hum. Her speaking voice has a horrible quality to it.

And she's against abortion even for victims of rape.

Whereas Obama is....... (where's a lip-licking lust emoticon when you need one?). He can Barack me any time.

(as you can see - I'm obviously a very politically astute woman with a fine grasp of the finer points of the US political scene)

dh makes some of our bread. The rest we get from our lovely German organic bakers. The bread is something worth living here for. I wish I could send you all some.

My stomach is still very sticky-out, but it always is/was, even before children. I have tiny norks, dreadful posture, one leg shorter than the other and scoliosis, none of which helps. Between ds1 and ds2 my students were continually starting she-must-be-pg-again rumours. Meanwhile I was having mcs

TigerFeet · 04/09/2008 10:53

Bero

I had a lovely flat stomach pre-dd even though I was a bit overweight. I just had a fat arse, big norks and rugby player legs Now I am just lardy all over [sigh]

DH made some bread the other day, it was nice but tasted a bit yeasty. Did he not let it rise enough? I would love to have more homemade bread but I think dh was put off by the yeastiness.

A mango - a whole one, all juicy and uncunting

I was convinced there was a halloumi shaped extra lump on my stomach this morning. It's so annoying wanting to be thinner but loving food and wine so very much.

Toot - the octopus bit is hilarious!

I dropped ds2 at the childminder this morning and he cried at the door and I felt AWFUL. Then I phoned and he was racing round and playing so I don't feel so bad.

Right - I am not paying to gas on here, must do something constructive.

berolina · 04/09/2008 11:04

Happy birthday Slur

Guadalupe · 04/09/2008 11:09

is it Slur's birthday today?

Happy Birthday!

Boco · 04/09/2008 12:06

I had a dream last night that I was eating a bowl of wet beach sand. I picked out the stones and added more sea water and ate it all, and all morning I can't shake the feeling that it really happened and it's making me feel a little sick. I can taste it and my stomach feels odd. So, not eaten yet today.

Can anyone tell me how to cook a joint of pork? I'm not good at cooking meaty things, I don't know what to do with it or how long for or how to make it nice. OB? Guad?

Boco · 04/09/2008 12:06

And happy birthday Slur x

Guadalupe · 04/09/2008 12:35

Dh makes a sort of trivet from some halved apples and onions. This stops it sitting in the fat so much and then you can make a lovely gravy. Rub the skin with salt to try and make a good crackling but if it doesn't crackle properly then you can always put in back in the oven on a high temp after the joint is out.

I think it's 30 mins per half kilo, you can check online. We have ours with an apricot and walnut stuffing and something like pear and rosemary jelly if we have it but otherwise apple sauce, and cider gravy, and then cider to drink!

Boco · 04/09/2008 12:41

My goodness you're good at this! Do you make the stuffings and the jelly too? Wow. I don't know where to start. I need a cook book for basic idiots really.

BBBee · 04/09/2008 12:43

boco - do you still want pinafores that are very dark grey / black?

don;t know much about pork.

BBBee · 04/09/2008 12:43
