For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Yes, DH says the same thing about halloumi - they seem to make it in packets just a leeeetle too big so you have to eat it all, or buy another to make it enough for 2 and then end up eating it all yourself anyway.

It's best to never remind yourself that you are actually frying cheese though. Wrongness.

I did quite well on the food front in the end.

I roasted some beetroot in balsamic / sherry / olive oil n garlic. Had that with half a plain jacket spud with salad AND some of that poncey 'kiln roasted salmon'. In a mini portion but all good n healthy. Not a lot of naughtiness there but v tasty. Trying not to look at DH scoffing jam sandwiches on white bread with an inch of butter

We can't hire a fucking car in Portugal. It's a long story but it's impossible. Great. INterrailing when 18 and stupid is one thing.....

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2008 21:59

Avi, I have 2 on the go. One is re-reading an old Ruth Rendall (Unkindness of Ravens - v good!)

and the other is re-reading The Hand-maiden's tale - Margaret Atwood - an old favourite. I will read some of one tonight, and some of the other tomorrow.
It's a gemini thing

Bero - thank you. But growing me own veg won't put the kids through college

BBBeee - go and do your cross stitch! NOW.

g'night all x

"I am currently gorging on MN in the manner of one who is due a MN holiday in order to , erm, achieve some stuff in RL..."

Oh me too, me too.

Will have to STOP all this once all three are in school all day (1st October) and get on with ploughing through the 1000000000000000000 items on my to do list - which is looking something like this:

sort out dry rot, do repointing, repaint all 14 windows and sills, landscape garden, sort out moth infestation in wardrobes, learn to play guitar, lose 2 stone and get fit, get coil removed, apply for new passport and organise dh's 40th birthday party for January, write novel about sex and shoplifting, investigate secondary schools for dd1, rejoin MSLC at local hospital, write first essay for DIPHE, make new kitchen units out of old pieces of MDF that have been lying around the house for the last two years, sort out chronic sinus problems, investigate joining the Quaker church, find out more about buying a houseboat........ pant, pant, pant.... [goes away to lie down in a dark room with a wet flannel over eyes]

BBBee · 03/09/2008 22:51

have been cross stitching with slow frustrating progress.

TooTicky · 03/09/2008 22:56

Hello Titty and Zippi

Dd2 has been most amusing today. The first was when she was denying that she had done a poo - apparently it was done by a burglar called Tom Steel (Steal?) who pushed her off the toilet, but apparently she wasn't hurt because he put a blanket on the floor first.

Then later, she was again on the loo, trying to reach to shut the door. She said, " I wanted to shut the door for a reason, so that the bees and buzzy things don't come in. And octupusses. If one came out of my bottom, I would be really amazed."

and

TooTicky · 03/09/2008 22:58

Oh, and hello Bee

Titty, how old is your dd? Does she need clothes? I have a growing pile of stuff outgrown by dd1 (12 tomorrow), that I can't quite bear to store for dd2 (3) (small house).
And Quakers - have you been involved with them before? I used to go as a child.

SuperBunny · 04/09/2008 00:52

I'm a bit cold

Boco, what sort of things will you have to do in your life coachy thing? I need to decide where my life is going. I really fancy doing something quite mindless like working in a bookshop but it won't pay the bills. Since I can't work anyway, it doesn't really matter.

My friends are quakers. They are lovley. I don't suppose all Quakers are but it seems like a very peaceful approach to Christianity

LOL @ Toot's DD2.

Lettuce
grapes (2)
banana
lentil thing (2)
peas & corn (1.5)
apple
apple flapjacks (.5)
Tomatoes
Juice

and probably another apple in a bit. Def 10.

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2008 00:59

ds went to quaker school

not sure thi is a recommenadtion

SuperBunny · 04/09/2008 01:12

Oh Zippi, that's very frustrating

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2008 01:18

i am so cross with myself

SuperBunny · 04/09/2008 01:20
Sad
zippitippitoes · 04/09/2008 01:21

sorry i am self absorbed all the time

have you got permanent leave to stay

SuperBunny · 04/09/2008 01:27

I'd be cross too zippi

No, not yet. Is a bit worrying. Need to have it in the next couple of weeks or I'm back to having to leave within 48 hrs. Not thinking about it. Just keeping fingers crossed that it'll be ok.

Why do I always feel so hungry after DS goes to bed. I just want to sit and eat. Bananas and apples don't fill me up. I want toast and general crap.

SuperBunny · 04/09/2008 04:48

I played this song (Seasons in the Sun) the other day and when it ended DS looked at me and said, "Mummy, that was wonderful music. Can we listen to it again?"

So, tonight when BF called me on his way to the radio station to do his show, I asked if he'd play it. And he did. He dedicated it in a 'that was for Sleepless in Seattle' type way. His co-host asked why that song and BF explained the story about DS. I neglected to tell him that it was in honour of the fruity bitches I befriended the interweb. But it was for you all

filthymindedvixen · 04/09/2008 08:32

awww

Bero, it's ok, you weren't flippant. I think the made my comment too weighty.

In a life coach vein, I need to :

Investigate secondary schools
Mkae some money for Ch*tmas
Write more of my children's book and think of a plot do something with it
Paint our boat
Teach the children their times tables
Sort out the sea of clutter at home before we drown
Plant my autumn crops on alloty (if it ever stops raining )
Start making own bread again.
quit smoking (in denial)

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2008 08:38

i have cheered up re application

i am off to wales i might even go today

tho i did suggest to bf that maybe i went to london and we went together instead of separate cars so we will see

i am struggling with not having a proper focus to my days

and not seeing anyone for day after day

swill hasve breakfast i think

i have frozen blackberries i was hoping o pick real ones at thwe but i think the weather is set to be foul

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2008 08:46

at bf playing this song for us, UR

morning all

banana apple orange satsuma raisins kiwis

4 I think

I have lost some weight. Ha HAH [triumphant] I am now only 1 stone 4 lb heavier than when I conceived ds2. However I was already a bit on the squashy side then (can't seem to conceive children when a bony version of myself)
anyway
good stuff
now must sort out exercise and find why my stomach is all sticky out (is not just fat, I have poked it)

am going for birthday lunch with friend. ds1 meant to be going out for day with home ed group but weather too bad for what they were planning so he's ocming too
which he will like but I was selfishly wanting to go out for lunch by myself
well, just me and ds2
