For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh Bereo, I demand that we meet somehow when you are here. Whereabouts will you be?

In general weekends are preferable for me for meeting up as the boys have missed rather a lot of school recently one way and another.

Ds2 having stitches out tomorrow - we havew to be at hospital for 7.30am . I am tired now so if anybody sees me on here beyond 9.00 this evening pleaze boot me off.

Oh dear Franny, should we save Glastonbury fo when you are mioblie again?

Fmv, what seeds did yoyu buty?

pinkspottywellies · 02/06/2008 15:48

DH is fabulous. He has dug up a little patch in one of our borders for my runner beans He doesn't really approve of veg growing but he's been humouring me and he made me a raised bed while dd and I were away and he cleaned and tidied the whole house and painted the bathroom

I love runner beans

TooTicky · 02/06/2008 15:50

That's great Pink (how can somebody not approve of veg growing? )

I planted runner beans last week with squash and corn, hoping they will grow up each other companionably. I find waiting for seeds to germinate very hard though. I am not known for my patience.

pinkspottywellies · 02/06/2008 15:54

I just put my peas that you sent in a pot last week TooT and I keep peering at them! Nothing doing yet! Mil has grown extra runner bean plants in case they didn't all germinate but they did so I'm rescuing the last 4. I don't know how well they'll do though - they won't get much sun because they'll be in the shade of the apple tree but we haven't really got anywhere else.

DH isn't so keen on the whole growing thing because I have pots and growbags lying around and it's all just too messy for him. Poor soul!

TooTicky · 02/06/2008 15:57

But usefully messy!
Our first lot of peas are about a foot tall, second lot not planted yet. Need more ground cleared! Dp is useful for this.
My broad beans have lotsa of blackfly and I can't fdind any ladybirds anywhere. There are some ants looking busy though, don't know if they eat them [hopeful]

pinkspottywellies · 02/06/2008 16:09

Oh good I was hoping I hadn't left the peas too late! How are your tomatoes coming on? I've got little tiny fruits on Mils and mine are about 4 inches tall. Do I need to pick out the new shoots growing from the main branches? MIL said something about it but I didn't understand cause they were too small at the time. I think I know what she means now though

TooTicky · 02/06/2008 16:14

Tomatoes about 8" tall. I planted some out a few days ago, some in individual pots in the greenhouse, some still in the growbag. Almost flowers.
I've never done the shoot removal - have always felt a bit tentative about it, worried I'll do it wrong. Will try this year though.

IdrisTheDragon · 02/06/2008 17:04

I have heard of the song and it pre-dates me by three years. I think it was on a CD at home of hits of 1972 as that's the year my mum and dad got married.

I am eating raw carrot.

fullmoonfiend · 02/06/2008 18:06

coolbox! for keeping food cool when camping!!

Seeds: More peas, more carrot (carrotfly resistant , love-in-a-mist, stocks, sunflowers, cabbage, more rocket, more mixed salad leaves
I'm easily pleased, me!

TooTicky · 02/06/2008 18:11

It's surprisingly easy to become a seed anorak

TooTicky · 02/06/2008 18:13

Am eating pasta with tomato and lentil sauce (garlic and parsley homegrown )

UnderRated · 02/06/2008 18:30

Thanks for your input btw, Toot

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2008 18:49

LOL again at fruity bitches
it has good staying power that one

ooh have had fab afternoon, FK came round with her ds who is train track maven - very focused little person
we ate loads of fruit - ooh tons. Cleverly disguised as cake.

then took ds to gymnastics and went to gym myself. I said I WENT TO THE GYM did you hear me at the back.

then came home in pissing rain feeling very chirpy and had an omelette with lots of rocket salad.

am still endorphiny, if it wasn't such a challenge to actually walk to gym I would go every day. Well I would CONSIDER it at least.

can I talk seeds too? we have tomatoes about 3 inches tall and a bean wigwam and some mixed leaves and some rocket and some chard and some mizuna. Whatever that is, it sounds good. And poppies, and foxgloves, and sunflowers to replace the eaten ones. But the only thing that has grown yet is tomatoes. However I have HIGH HOPES . Seem a lot of snails around this year.

and omg the gutter
hold on will be back with gutter news
I know, the anticipation, but be still thy beating heart

The gutter fell down, Fra

At least it saves you climbing up to inspect it. Sounds expensive though.

FrayedKnot · 02/06/2008 19:11

Hello, we are hooooo-ooooome!

Thank you very much for the cuppa and banana cake Franny. Hope you had a good time at the gym!

I am of course slightly too young to actually remember T-Rex

I am seriously lacking in fruit and the melon I fogot to take to Norfolk is still intact, hoorah!
