For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think it's the last time we'll go out together before dc2 is born
mind you I can't remember the last time we went out together - it is so convenient if one of us stays in and babysits and the other one goes out

I don't think I will be able to dance

OP posts:
cyteen · 12/05/2008 11:46

You'll have to do the seat dance.

littlerach · 12/05/2008 12:50

Cyteen did you see my nux vomica tip, seriously, it'll change your life. For the better. Bottomwise.

I didn't mean to get dragged into the bottom talk, but it's important.

Have felt vaguely sick all day after drinking too too much yesterday. Must remember that daytime drinking makes me fall asleep and then topping up with gin and tonic makes me vaguely psychotic. Useful to know.

Hello everyone

This thread suspiciously quiet.

Except for Cyteen

Cyteen I would highly recommend doing 10/10 properly, plus some psyllium husks (from health food shop) for a few days to get things moving.

And loads and loads of fluids, esp in this weather!

Am off to make banana cake with 6 black bananas

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 16:51

feckin love Bellowhead!

Tatties · 12/05/2008 17:00

Cyteen I would recommend a supermarket own brand of shreddie-type cereal for your problem

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2008 17:15

FMF me too
two of them in my little backwater and me undanceable

OP posts:
TooTicky · 12/05/2008 17:47

Franny, is that a medical condition? I've never even had one in my backwater.

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 17:54

fnarr fnarr, there's not many I'd let in me backwater....

I have seen them twice Franzo!

cyteen · 12/05/2008 17:57

Hehe, at last the attention turns to someone else's backwater.

Thanks for the tips all, they have been noted and will be acted upon in escalating fashion (F+V carpet bombing first, then the rest if that doesn't work). The other handy side effect of this is that my hands will be too busy constantly cramming F+V into my mouth to ever type another word

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2008 18:17

I am on a terribly 10/10 course this week -a ll about healthy eating and mental wellbeing!

And then the feckers served up chocolate cake for lunch! (after some very nice sarnies.)
So apart from some grapes, pineapple and mleon I have only had a smattering of salad garnish in my sandwiches.

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 18:25

all you veggie veggers - what protein do you have with each meal? Apparently I don't get enough, although they were very impressed with my F and V intake [beam]

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2008 18:28

all food except fruit and some veg has enough protein in it to meet our requirements
the meat and dairy industries like us to get our knickers in a twist about protein
decent carbs with each meal and one or two portions of beans / nuts / lentils is plenty

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 18:33

the woman was askin for a typical day's food for us.
I said (going on a typoical work day): fruit for brekkie, brown toast and marmelade at @10am, home made veg soup and bread for lunch, a banana mid afternoon and then chicken/pepper/onion fajitas/salad, salsa for dinner. sometimes cheese and biscuits.
I said I was always hungry and had a huge appetite.
She said I needed protein at each meal. I can't eat protein at brekkie, I can barely face fruit tbh but I'm always ready to eat by 10am.

TooTicky · 12/05/2008 18:35

I'm having a confidence crisis. I haven't been in touch with my homeopath for ages. I don't "do" calpol. Ds2 has a temperature of 102.

stuffitllama · 12/05/2008 18:37

fear losing plot completely but am here
Hi all
Toot I don't do Calpol either. What else is up with ds?

TooTicky · 12/05/2008 18:39

Bit of a cough. Normally I'm okay with this kind of thing - strip them naked, plenty of fluids and rest, and they're fine.
But since this hospital shenanigans I have been Anxious.

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 18:40

eek. 102 is high! Is that orally?
Sponge forehead with lukewarm water (not whole body as he will get shivery)

Will he drink?

stuffitllama · 12/05/2008 18:40

how high do you normally let it go? do you have an upper limit?

Fullmoonfiend · 12/05/2008 18:42

When did you take his temp last? Take it again in an hour.

You know the 'danger' stuff to look for, don't you? [grandmother, here is how you suck an egg etc]

TooTicky · 12/05/2008 18:48

I took his temp 10 minutes ago, with one of those forehead strip things. Are they accurate? I don't usually use thermometers at all - see what this hospital business has done to me? Instinct not good enough any more.

He ate all his dinner, he has been drinking, he has been tired today, he has had his hand over his eye all day.

TooTicky · 12/05/2008 18:49

I don't know how high I normally let it go. I usually test temperature with my cheek.
