For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

zippitippitoes · 29/04/2008 19:25

oh toot i think eye things are very worrying...how awful to hurt himself so much with so small a thing

TooTicky · 29/04/2008 19:26

It's pretty certain he will have permanently damaged vision in that eye. And he may need further work
Thanks for the hug.

ChocolateRockingHorse - sounds like this sort of thing has heppened to your dcs more than once?

Fullmoonfiend · 29/04/2008 19:28

oh wow. Oh that's not good...

UnderRated · 29/04/2008 19:28

Toot, how awful. I am glad it got fixed though, but it sounds quite traumatic for you. Hope he heels quickly

lol @ quite of the week. I concur.

MrsCarrot · 29/04/2008 19:29

Blimey, Toot, what a horrible experience for you all. Have they said it will definitely be damaged? The body is amazing, especially little ones. I hope he recovers quickly and you get some sleep tonight.

UnderRated · 29/04/2008 19:30

Oh no, Toot

ChocolateRockingHorse · 29/04/2008 19:30

TT well one of them has had several GAs for lots of little procedures (broken teeth.. he has SNs and there's no way much can be done in his mouth unless he out for the count), MRI scans, grommets etc but he is also the master at doing dreadful things to himself too! He once got chili sauce (from someone else's plate) in his eye! But that was got out without a GA.. just..

And poor DS1 (now 15 and wouldn't thank me for talking about it) had to a circumsision at 3 (medical reasons); that was my first experience with child/GA and I have dreaded it since..

It's seeing all the fight go out of them isn't it! So traumatic..

MrsCarrot · 29/04/2008 19:31

Thanks for thinking of me with the hand washing notices too. I am going to watch Holby City now and see if they are popping gel squirts from their pockets.

lullabyloo · 29/04/2008 19:32

Oh Toot
That is horrendous
Poor,poor ds & poor you
You must be shattered.
When will they see ds again?

zippitippitoes · 29/04/2008 19:33

oh no how awful

Tatties · 29/04/2008 19:40

Oh TooT darling What an ordeal

OsmosisBanana · 29/04/2008 19:44

blueberries, raspberries, oats

watercress, spring onion, ginger, chilli

borlotti beans, cannelini beans, chilli, onion, fistfuls of herbs.

pineapple, mango.

No exercise, but I am doing DH's tax return (doesn't have to be in till end of Oct, very pleased with self.) and also my many applications for finance for degree. I think that deserves extra points, especially if I don't kill myself before I finish.

Glad the ordeal is over TooT. And glad your sexpert was helpful MrsC. And glad your ds got the school. etc etc. GLad all round. Well done all.

OsmosisBanana · 29/04/2008 19:44

The school one was for LL obviously.

OsmosisBanana · 29/04/2008 19:45

Where do you live LittleR

TooTicky · 29/04/2008 19:45

CRH - respect! How awful.

Ds2 has to go back on Friday, then regularly I think. No idea when further work may take place.
Permanent damage pretty definite, yes, because the laceration is over the middle of his eye and is unlikely to heal absolutely flat, so will cause distortion.

I have just been mean mummy and done all three drops and ABs, despite ds2 sobbing that it would make him die and it was hurting his heart, etc

TooTicky · 29/04/2008 19:46

Lully, did ds get his school? The one youi wanted?

lullabyloo · 29/04/2008 20:03

Oh sweetheart
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

yes he did
I wrote a very lengthy letter of appeal & the school governor said it made her cry

berolina · 29/04/2008 20:19

oh poor TooT and poor brave ds2

Boco · 29/04/2008 20:22

Oh no Toot that's not good, you must be shattered. Was this a blow pipe injury or did i make that up?

Do they think it's one of those things that the brain sort of compensates for, if that makes sense? I know it's different and probably quite ridiculous thing to say but my cat had an eye injury and the vet said even though her pupil is badly distorted her brain will compensate so she'll see fine. But she is a cat and not a boy. I will try not to offer to get my cat to come and talk to you.

TooTicky · 29/04/2008 20:32

Well done Lully!!!!!!!

Boco - I don't know. Weirdly, last night I kept wondering if it would stop him from driving. Not that it's an issue yet, but it will be one day.
I would be delighted to hear from your cat. Does she drive?

TooTicky · 29/04/2008 20:33

And yes, itwas the blowpipe thing. And it was the pointy end of the pencil.

FrannyandZooey · 29/04/2008 20:35

Oh TooT I am bloody sorry to hear this. What a shock after the initial worry and then you must have thought it was all going to be relatively ok after all - then this. They are so lucky to have you - I would be so rubbish at this type of thing and you have stuck it all out.
I also feel very badly for ds1 - it was him who blew it wasn't it?

Don't worry if you can't be bothered to go over it. You must be nacered.
