Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

I've been put on antibiotics now

JustAGalWhoLovesBooks · 01/11/2024 21:35

I've been ill mist of Ocotber. Two back to back colds then went downhill last week and had a strong positive Covid test. Had the fever, flu like symptoms, exhaustion etc. Week later and still have chesty cough and am exhausted. Small children and half term while trying to work means no time to recover...

BrownBoxWhiteLabel · 01/11/2024 21:25

@buffyfaithspike how are you doing?

Finished antibiotics and feel much more human now. Never eating chicken again!

Has anyone lost sense of taste?

DD been ill all week. Cold, cough, slight sore throat at the beginning. Can't taste anything.

I worry as she asthmatic about it going to her chest.

LifesABeachx · 28/10/2024 23:01

I have caught this off my DD, who had tonsillitis and then a week later the symptoms everyone are saying here. She still isn't back to herself.

I have a lot of congestion mainly and don't feel 100%. Tonight my left ear has completely popped and all I can hear is whooshing / my heartbeat in it. Has anyone else had this?
And do you think I should contact the GP or wait it out?

My dd had tonsillitis 3 weeks ago and now this.
I just hope it doesn't go to her chest and she needs more antibiotics

coffeesaveslives · 02/11/2024 11:55

I've just had a weird bug too. Low-level nausea and feeling a bit "grotty" for a few days (but nothing major), then on Wednesday I had awful diarrhoea and barely slept, kept having to rush to the toilet. It lasted about 12-14 hours then stopped as quickly as it started, but I felt awful until yesterday when it cleared up.

Now I have a minor niggly sore throat and a cough - again, nothing major and nothing that would stop me working or going out, but it's very odd. I also had a weird cough/cold in August that took me weeks to shift. DH was the same.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 02/11/2024 12:34

Also had odd symptoms this week, started feeling generally off, then constant headache at front of my head and generally feeling woolly, upset stomach.
Then on Thursday bizarrely my boobs hurt so much, really tender and painful along with waves of stomach ache. I had a good sleep last night for first time all week and actually feel a little better today. Very strange!

Giraff3 · 02/11/2024 12:41

Yeah i lost my taste. I ate some chips the other night and they tasted like sprouts lol

Ls005 · 02/11/2024 17:33

@coffeesaveslives I’m the same as you - felt awful last week but better last weekend so went back to work this week just gone. Though Tuesday night I had a really upset tummy and like you no sleep that night as I was on the loo for most of it!

I’ve got a lingering sore, scratchy throat too and overwhelming tiredness, but not enough to make me stop working or going out etc. Almost feels like my body is still fighting something. 2 weeks and I’m absolutely bored of it! Fed up of feeling sub par!

coffeesaveslives · 02/11/2024 17:38

@Ls005 it's rubbish isn't it?

Ever since I got COVID in 2022, I've struggled to fight off colds and bugs. I don't get them more frequently, but when I do come down with one, it seems to linger forever 😩

Normally a bad cold would last 7-10 days, now the lingering cough/stuffy nose seems to last twice that. I take vitamins but it doesn't seem to make any difference - I wasn't even particularly sick with COVID but it definitely fucked with my immune system.

Ls005 · 02/11/2024 17:49

@coffeesaveslives totally - this time round it’s battered me. Before I caught it I was running miles every week, training for a half marathon, felt good and I presumed healthy and thought when the symptoms came out I’d bounce back. Today 30 mins yoga wore me out!

Im not one to be part of the tin foil hat brigade normally but I am wandering if during a couple of winters in lockdown our immune systems got a bit comfy and now we are exposed again this is our bodies rebuilding immunity? Don’t get me wrong we had to deal with 2020/2021 somehow but long term I wander if we depleted our overall immunity?

coffeesaveslives · 02/11/2024 17:53

I have no idea @Ls005 - it's really unpleasant though!

It hasn't impacted my overall fitness or life thankfully, but it's just that underlying feeling that you're not quite well yet. I've even had blood tests in September which showed slightly raised WBC's and neutrophils which my GP said is basically my body fighting some kind of virus.

I felt well again for about 5-6 weeks and now this, lol.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 02/11/2024 20:39

Sympathies to everyone that finds themselves on this thread. I’m so glad I found it a few weeks ago as it’s given me some solace that I’m not alone nor am I some kind of hypochondriac 🙄

I’m just back on this thread to have a bloody good moan. I want to scream actually. To summarise, I have had a never ending virus thing for weeks; the occasional few days where I think I’m over it only for it to start up again worse than the previous iteration. Reading everyone’s symptoms I’m quite sure I had Covid even though none of my tests were positive.

My very first symptoms were on 30 September 😭 and here I am still with some congestion, mild cough, crackling in my ears when I blow my nose. I am getting better but it’s so effing slow. When will it end? I work in a school and I’m terrified of going back on Monday to be met by an onslaught of new germs.

I was wondering if anyone had a view on having a flu jab? I feel quite desperate to do anything I can to prevent this happening again.

shewolfmum · 02/11/2024 23:22

Portia me too! Still have sinus stuff and crackling ears that are a wee bit blocked now rather than totally deaf...ens if Aug for us. Keeps on and on...

Cloud44 · 05/11/2024 17:35

How’s everyone feeling? Has anyone had nausea / upset stomach?

I had an awful upset stomach last week, no vomiting but plenty of time on the toilet. It was really odd - came on very suddenly but only lasted about 12 hours then cleared up as quickly as it began Confused

I felt rotten for a day or two after (just tired and dehydrated I think) but fine now!

ChaosHol1 · 05/11/2024 18:00

Yip I just had this too, started 24th October and was off work until yesterday with the exact same.

Giraff3 · 05/11/2024 21:48

Im back to normal. Just lost my taste/smell still

I had the same last week😊

shewolfmum · 05/11/2024 21:51

My ears are still weird and I have increased anxiety levels...other than that and the odd cough and a fear of catching something else ...I am ok!

Bone11 · 05/11/2024 22:03

Is shallow breathing a covid or flu symptom? Not that it really matters, ill is ill. Anyone else had this? No cough but can't take deep breaths. Very achey and chills and feel very pathetic!

TiredCatLady · 05/11/2024 22:26

I’ve not felt fully well for weeks but last week was like someone put a power drill to my temple. Then I wanted to do was sleep, sweating/shivering, everything ached but no other cold/flu symptoms. If it’s Covid, it’s a particularly shite/lingering variant of it.

It's miserable isn't it?

Finally feeling more human today but my god I feel like I could sleep for a week 😂

Cloud44 · 06/11/2024 08:52

Still feeling pretty rubbish today 🙁. Are people going into work or trying to rest up?

Nannyfannybanny · 06/11/2024 09:07

Interested to know how many of you have had vaccines and how many. I had COVID first time ever last September, I had had 5 vaccines at that point. I'm very careful was nursing over 40 years, done isolation, barrier, reverse barrier. I was so ill,all the symptoms first test negative, day 5,off the scale! I was ill for 2 months,no underlying health issues . I went deaf and got severe tinnitus in one year,gp fast tracked me to audiology, had all the tests, waiting for ent referral. It hasn't improved any,am completely deaf in that ear and that was my "good". A relative, older lady, huge amount of health issues, refused both Covid and flu jabs, rang me yesterday she has COVID and is feeling extremely ill.
