For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 22:39

Sultanas (in drop scones), red cabbage (2), psb (prob 2), apple, carrot, blackeye beans, blood orange.

I made 6 blackeye bean burgers. I intended to eat one and freeze 5, but I ate 5. I shall be wafting fragrantly I think.

pinkspottywellies · 07/04/2008 22:46

Oh I see! The one who towered above his teammates and had a zippi badge on his pink shirt?

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:08

it would only be gross if you were expecting it to taste like tea tea.

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:08

hi all
I missed your handsome man zippi but your weekend sounds great
Toot if you fill the form in they do it all for you, have had numerous small refunds this way, I live abroad and keep forgetting to exempt myself from bits of bank tax and they just sort it all out
Oh had so much to say to everybody and now I need to read in again.. you have all been so busy..

But mainly thank you so much for kind words of support this afternoon.. it was a very moment after a [mad] (we need that icon) hour or two
My eldest just has such low self-esteem, and his teachers seem to give up.. he's at an incredibly expensive school which is very complacent as most of the parents don't pay the fees themselves (you know company thing).. it's ok if the children are keen and bright and smiley like my others but for my eldest he's just sliding and unhappy..
You know when you just want one of those old-fashioned teachers to see that they can do something with a kid even if it's not obvious -- I want one of those..
So he doesn't try I encourage and boost him to make him try and when he doesn't I get cross and frustrated .. I'm sure you can imagine the rest.
Sometimes I think I should get a job to get off his back poor thing
All is well now in the sense that we have talked about it, and do trust each other really, but his underlying problems just won't go away.
Anyway sorry to bore you all but you were great this afternoon and helped me take a breath xx

Have done very well on veg for whole family all weekend which was mostly spent at other people's houses so very absent from here lots of beans, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, salad, cauliflower, onion, garlic, peppers but not much fruit. Have just made veg lasagne for a friend with chicory, peppers, toms, beans, mushrooms, spinach then ruined it with too much dried basil. She's just had a baby and we're having a week of cooking for her.

TigerFeet · 07/04/2008 23:08

hello

sorry to hear of bad days

TooT, how about cooking vegan food and growing veg and selling on a Farmers' market?

Stuffit I hope you have a better day tomorrow

Am off now to find Mr. Zippi

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:13

toot blackeyebean burgers sound fantastic
eating five sounds rather de rigeur actually

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:14

Stuffit, my ds1 (nearly 9) has very low confidence - am only recently finding out how low - I think it's so tough being a boy. You sound as if you're doing a great job though

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:15

If you cook food to sell, do you not have to be inspected? [sloven emoticon]

TigerFeet · 07/04/2008 23:16

I don't know tbh - despite working in the food industry

I could find out if you like...

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:18

Hmm, I seem to spend most of my time in the kitchen as it is. Dcs seem to need to eat constantly atm.

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:21

thanks toot..our boys would probably get along very well.. !

I'm not sure about the checking.. first instinct would be yes.. but then ..hmmm

do you make organic pickles and chutneys? (purely from a yum point of interest ) Are there outlets near you that would be interested in what you make do you think?

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:24

No, I'm not a big vinegar fan. I make bread and cakes and drop scones and toast biscuits and more bread and sandwiches pies and dinners and endless snacks and prepare enough fruit to sink the Titanic every week.

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:26

Really does sound glorious, who do you sell to at the moment?

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:27

Nobody - that's just what my dcs eat

I am unemployed but skint.

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:33

Can you start local and small.. advert on the school noticeboard, word of mouth among friends..

Are there any outlets that sell different but linked products that you might try.. for example..not a baker, as you would be in competition.. but a health food/supplement shop, that sort of thing?

Where I live there are a lot of independent operators where that kind of thing could work -- chains and franchises would be pretty hopeless..

Or maybe start by finding a friend who needs something catered.. like for example supplying the breads and puddings for a dinner party?

Are these all silly ideas.. what you make sounds so good that it could be worth a go

TooTicky · 07/04/2008 23:37

I will think about it, thanks. But I am quite small and scared.

Right, must go to bed - dcs are waking early atm

Good night

stuffitllama · 07/04/2008 23:38

night toot
xx
and ta for moral support

UnderRated · 08/04/2008 03:24

I missed all the excitement

lol @ Toots eating 5 out of 6 beanburgers. They must have been yummy. How did you make them? I have black beans I need to use. I'm in a similar position re work. Except that I am not legally allowed to work so can only volunteer and even that is restricted. HTF a, I supposed to support myself and DS when I can't earn money? Sorry for rant. I think Stuffit had lots of good ideas although I know it can be quite daunting knowing where and how to start. Could you do informal childminding? Or Garden work? Or cleaning? Not very glamourous I know, and tricky with small DC. Have a look on Craigslist -they sometimes advertise for things you could probably do from home.

Stuffit, where do you live? I'm imagining somewhere exotic. How old is your DS? I think it can be hard being a boy at school. Hope his school stuff improves. You sound lovely, making food for your friend. And if she's anything like me, she'll be so ravenous and grateful for food, she won't notice the extra basil.

Crappy F&V day but I did chop up some strawberries for DS. He also had corn and peas (I did not)

zippitippitoes · 08/04/2008 07:58

that is so impossible ur the work thing

i looked back and couldnt work out what i wrote myself but was

zippitippitoes · 08/04/2008 08:00
