For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello .

Happy birthday to littlest womble and happy belated birthday to Avi and Franny's DS.

I started doing the ipod boot camp running thing yesterday. My legs are still a bit sore today but am going to stick at it [determined emoticon].

I have been eating lots of bananas. And more F&V than of late.

I have been unable to download the running podcast for some reason. I think it's a sign. I'm just not meant to run.

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 20:51

i am having a random evening i seem to be making sunday lunch now

while they put the new sink and taps in the bathroom that have been in the bathroom for two years..in the bathroom wrapped up obvs

so maybe by the end of the weekend we will have a sink in the house with two working taps and one have to use the bath for teeth and washing

alternatively of course with my luck we will have no water at all for the foreseeable future

UnderRated · 11/04/2008 20:58

You're very organised, zippi. I hope the plumbing is a success.

I bought some hulled barley today on a whim. Is that Pearl barley? I don't know why I bought it as I have no idea what to do with it.

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 21:53

lol at fun and housebuilding being different experiences

can't help on clothes at all, if I find something I like I buy 10 and run away from the screaming choice, my comment on sleeveless tops was a bewildered shot in the dark, but must say fmf i have hippy twinkling at the moment, is it a hippy fashion moment? was reading in vogue (school library) that pale denim and ripped knees are back.. don't even have to go in the back of the cupboard for those

fmf can you do colour with SHOES instead

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 21:55

UnderRated · 11/04/2008 22:06

Oh, I see. I thought you were getting ready for Sunday. Hope you had a good dinner.

I accidentally at some of DS's Easter chocolate I feel rather washed out today.

Who goes to the gym? I have a workout room in my building...If I were very brave and made an effort to go tomorrow, what should I do? There is a treadmill, bike, crosstrainer (ski type machine) and weights. I need to a) lose weight b) be less flabby (esp tummy) and c) be able to run for a bus without keeling over. Any suggestions?

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 22:10

you could do ten minutes on a bike ten minutes on treadmill if youn like crosstrainer try that then some weights then one of the first three agsain for ten mins

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 22:12

accidentally fell into your mouth?

chocolate's ok you can't worry about chocolate

I used to go a lot and would never bother with the bike.
Would do the cross trainer and weights.

If you do your cardio (eg cross trainer) after your weights you will burn up more than if you do your cardio before your weights.

So I would do 5 minutes cardio warm up, then stretch, then 35-40 weights and abs, then 20 minutes cardio.

have you done weights before?

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 22:15

if you get bored on the cross trainer you can usually prop a book or mag on the bars

UnderRated · 11/04/2008 22:23

No, never really done weights. Not sure I can manage more than 30 mins in total - maybe 10 mins of cross trainer, 10 mins on bike/ treadmill? With a few mins on weights first? Am feeling almost motivated now!

UnderRated · 11/04/2008 22:25

Have some old magazines that someone passed on to me so will take one of those to help pass the time and catch up on last year's-- celebrity gossip

zippitippitoes · 11/04/2008 22:25

oh stuffit does completely differently from me lol

i hate the crosstrainer nearly as much as the bike

so i dont go on that it is too dizzy making for me

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 22:27

warm up with a bit of cardio first then stretch

some sit-ups and crunches
is there an inner and outer thigh machine?
and is there a back machine? that really helps with the stomach thing
and then the one where you lie on your front and lift weights with your bum

then more cardio

the cross-trainer, bike and treadmill are all cardio i think

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 22:29

the bike never did much for my mum's thighs and bum so I don't trust it

cross trainer better than treadmill as you can read

but you would get sick zippi if you get dizzy zippi

stuffitllama · 11/04/2008 22:30

never typed so many z's as in that last post

UnderRated · 11/04/2008 22:30

Oh stuffit, you are getting all technical - back machine? What would that look like?
I think there is a leg one - where you sit and squeeze with your ankles?

Am not sure about lifting weights with my bum.
