For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

FrayedKnot · 10/04/2008 15:24

Happy Birthday to DS, Franny!

Happy Birthday to Avi!

I hope you are all having a great day.

New washing machine is here at last

Have had fruit salad lovingly prepared by the sandwich van lady, and a big salad with avocado.

Pink hope DD is OK. Earache is the worst

BBBee · 10/04/2008 15:25

oooh -

happy birthday baby zoo
happy birthday avi

BBBee · 10/04/2008 15:26

psw both mine and me have had burst ear drums. It really varies in how painful it can be and the bursting is a release of pressue and often signifys things getting better.

best wishes.

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2008 15:26

i just bravely rang a couple of numbers to try and get some more work but they both said they didnt need anyone any more

i ahve been working my way through a block of cheddar cheese

i swim and dont have green hair

BBBee · 10/04/2008 15:30

i am planning on taking up swimming (yes i know, like the running plan...) but am worried about hair. I have crap dry hair at best of times. zippi do you wear a hat?

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2008 15:33

oh yuk no i would lookhorrider in hat

i use charles worthington brilliant shien shampoo and conditioner

Fullmoonfiend · 10/04/2008 15:43

does anyone wear a swimming hat unless they have to??

I love swimming, I just hate the getting changed bit afterwards. I would love to have a gander at the Wild Swimming book, which tells you of places to swim outdoors in da nature (no, not naked. Well, not neccessarily...)

oh I found a website

fmf imagines she is a water nymph rather than a scrawny, middle aged eccentric

TigerFeet · 10/04/2008 15:44

Isn't there such a thing as special shampoo for use after swimming to avoid the green thing? Or is it full of Unspeakable Things?

Agree with BBBeee on burst ear drums - dd has had a few in her time, particularly between the ages of 6 & 18 mo, and the appearance of the green goo generally meant she was on the mend. Clean with cooled boiled salted water. When they are little the eardrums will heal - it's only adult ones that don't, or so I am told by dd's GP.

MrsCarrot · 10/04/2008 16:33

Avi - why didn't you tell us before!! If I send a card to Avi at Avi Island with Dogwood, will it get there?

Happy Birthday

Also Happy Birthday to mini Franny. [closest I could get to Manatee!]

Boco · 10/04/2008 16:42

Happy Birthday Avi and ds of Franny. That means it is a whole year since I first 'spoke' to Franny, as it was on her skirt to wear to 4th birthday party of ds. I was a little intimidated actually

I hate swimming pools too - because of the getting changed and being cold and having soggy socks and all the other people and everything. Going tomorrow though.

dd1 refused to go to school today and cried, and I just picked her up and she refused to come home and cried. Bribed her with mini eggs and a forget me not from the plant sale.

Fullmoonfiend · 10/04/2008 16:47

is it really only a year since The Skirt thread?? [boggles]

Franny, if you eat too much while breastfeeding and cannot shift those extra pounds, that skirt could have a beautiful new home with me you know

BBBee · 10/04/2008 18:35

grapefruit
banana
orange juice
salad
2 carrots
leek ( and potato soup)
pineapple

will squeeze in a couple more tonight - 10!

Fullmoonfiend · 10/04/2008 18:51

oh yeah, veg and stuff.

Erm, banana, grape, sandwich with salad, tomatoes, sprouted stuff and salad cream. Chicken, chickpea, spinach curry
Must try harder....

UnderRated · 10/04/2008 19:19

Happy birthday, Aviatrix & Franny's DS. Was the boat a success? Are you doing something nice, Avi?

I love swimming but not the getting changed bit. I think I prefer swimming in a pool of chemicals and warm wee than in a river or lake where there are living things and fish and rubbish and stuff that touches my toes and wraps around my ankles.

I was sceptical about kiki but am definitely put off. Fish and grass juice is yuk.

Zippi - you sound a bit overwhelmed. I have taken to not opening mail. It will catch up on me eventually but I find it helps me get through the day, not seeing all the paper work and $$$ I need to sort out [coward]

I found coffee cravings went away after a couple of days. I do drink lots of tea though so wonder if that helped. I have run out of imported Earl Grey though and American versions tastes funny.

I used to love pret but I read the other day that they are owned by MacDonalds - is that true?

at almond criossants.

UnderRated · 10/04/2008 19:21

Your DS is gorgeous, Franny. He looks like he had a lovely birthday. He looks very professional in his doctor kit. Card tree is a v good idea

pinkspottywellies · 10/04/2008 20:18

Evening all! I love all the pictures Franny. Hope you all had a lovely day. Happy birthday Avi!

Raisins, (bonus seeds and nuts points!), nearly a whole pineapple , orange juice, sweetcorn (with tuna in sandwich, but quite a bit) spinach, peas, beans. Going to have a kiwi and a banana in a minute. I've got some over ripe bananas so need to make some cake

I walked today, round fields and squelched in mud with dd in our wellies! Took dd to the doctors and got some drops for her snotty ear. Don't know how I'd get them in if I didn't still bf!! Breastfeeding definitely facilitates lazy parenting

FrannyandZooey · 10/04/2008 20:39

oh yes I put more pictures on and forgot! the boat was a big hit as you can see
plus doctor's outfit a hoot and he was so pleased to get the real set of medical things - kept exclaiming "it's REAL, it's REAL not pretend, oh I am so happy!" and took the first aid kit everywhere - to swimming, to the restaurant, etc

I hate swimming but not because of my hair, I just hate it. I like it in seas and rivers and stuff but I hate the indoor pool and the chemicals and the changing rooms are so revolting and dirty and smelly and WET - anything could be growing in there - verrucas and cholera and god knows what
you can't get clean and you have to put your clothes on having walked and sat in this soupy bath of germs
yes I am a bit OCD
plus I hate getting splashed and it is noisy and you can;t see anything because you have to take your glasses off
and I live in Essex and there are a LOT of very tattooed and badly shaped and hairy scary bodies out there. I don't amazingly want to be two inches from someone's orange sunbed tattooed cleavage
other than that I really LOVE it

Lolololololololo

FrannyandZooey · 10/04/2008 20:42

have had more grapes and pineapple
sushi things: avocado rolls, cucumber rolls, special roll which I can't remember the name of which had mango in
tempura of carrot and squash and red pepper and something beautifully frilly
tofu parcels
seaweed salad YUM
and green tea ice cream

hope you had a lovely day Avi

I am hanging onto that skirt for dear life
it does fit me even when mildly large so hopefully will be back in it by Christmas or so

Boco it seems funny I have only known you for 1 year! or maybe that is a long time, i don't know

boat was ingenious looks great as does ds

someone has mentioned the word coffee and now as i have to go and find m,y mobile as have been promised a fone call it is next to the kettle so will be tempted

the swimming pool here is quite quiet when i go most of the time i hate it when it is busy cos it is tedious and splashy

zippitippitoes · 10/04/2008 20:48

i am ok

it is the after effects of the weekend

UnderRated · 10/04/2008 21:23
