For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think that it must be very hard to be in that situation and hard to watch from the outside and hard to know what to do for the best. She needs someone she trusts and loves to be a bit bossy I suppose. I would be awful at that.

I am redeemed. Have had huge fruit salad include mango and pineapple and am feeling cleansed. You know when you do a pineapple and cut the top off you can stand it in water or soil or something to grow - it never works does it. Did I make it up?

If this was a letter I would draw you a picture of it but it isn't.

FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2008 18:37

wombling has anyone seen him since he started being ill this time?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2008 18:39

oh yes I know what you mean Bee
have never tried it though
we did plant an avocado stone once - had read it would grow an interesting plant and perhaps produce a flower but it just rotted instead

oh we saw a coot building a nest!

OP posts:
BBBee · 24/03/2008 18:44

I like nests - very spring like.

I am feeling quite portly ATM - I think I have been doing lots and so not paying too much attention to what I have been eating or doing that thing or 'treating' yourself because you have worked hard.

I must do that fruit thing for breakfast - that is the key isn't it - a good start and all that.

Okay encouraging words are required.

Wombling - oh poor you and well done for baby wearing him when he is ill, it much b such a comfort to him - he is very lucky and I hope he feels better soon.

Franny - you eat well loads so the odd bad day is bound to happen but you have taken yourself to the gym and noticed your eating so tomorrow is a new day and all.

...it is not working is it, is all patronising.

Boco - pull yourself together woman - wotsits indeed.

100 - FFS stand up to tthe woman at the NT place, we do own them you know

FMV - either post or stop - none of this half way housing.

Better?

No?

Can't do bossy.

FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2008 18:48

oh I am fine, I had some sweetcorn as well and lots of fruit for breakfast and I don't think I quite did 10 but not badly. Maybe 7 or 8.

Bee you are always encouraging.

I'm eating easter egg now.

oh I'm bloody idle, me. Haven't got round to changing my name back, is all, Ms BBBBbsossybritches!

ladywombling · 24/03/2008 19:30

Hello,

Just dashing in on my way to change the bed yet again, have been to NHS drop in /out of hours service, they have diagnosed gastroenteritis (sp?) and asthma, DS still not keeping anything down but BM, although seems to have perked up a bit.

Am a little more re-assured, though pretty sure he will have either stayed static since last weigh in or perhaps lost some weight.

BBee, I quite like it whn you are bossy!

Well done Franny on the gym, you are putting me to shame!

100, just seen your neighbour thread, she sounds awful!

Hello. My throat is still sore and is now bleeding I feel very sorry for myself and I'm going to bed soon. I think I have had 10 portions overthewholebankholidayweekend but no exercise on account of feeling so pitiful.

I have, however, made my first ever lasagne (for 9 people!!) and just made a curry from scratch, which I haven't done before. Usually I use curry powder or a jar of paste. I got the recipe from MN for a Malaysian curry and it was very nice. Any ideas for Bahrain in a fortnight? Answers on a postcard please

My friend's baby is now overdue. We stomped around the village today to try and make it move! Then we went for hot chocolate in the pub. She's seen the midwife today and is still ok for her home birth - she was worried her blood pressure might have gone too high. I'm so excited! Hurry baby!!

You guys have been very chatty since I was last on and I have skimmed through but can't remember everything I wanted to comment on. Oh except your SIL 100x - I hope she finds her way quickly and gets happier. It sounds like you're doing an amazing job of being there for her and not being pushy and

pinkspottywellies · 24/03/2008 19:51

I've just eaten Pak Choi for the first time.

S1ur · 24/03/2008 19:51

Lol at Bbees sncouraging words very masterful.

Wombling - your poor ds, its time like these that make you remember how fantastic it is to bf. I'm pleased he's perked up, fingers crossed he is over the worst of it.

100x what a horrible situation with your sil, I hope you manage to at least offer an alternative perspective that she may just take parts of to heart.

I am feeling very fruity Between myself and dcs we have probably consume a whole bunch of grapes, a punnet of bluberries and a couple of avocados. Plus I did make that ratatouille and salad so I reckon I'm on at least 10 today. No exercise, bar chasing dcs though, and cannot face a run tonight so will have to make up for idleness tomorrow.

The weaning is going okay, but I'm concerned that ds seems to have got very clingy and cuddly. I hope he's not feeling disconnected I might start a thread...

S1ur · 24/03/2008 19:54

Avu - ouch your poor mouth. If it still feels weird tomorrow, I'd ask for an emergency appt with dentist to check it. It may just be the numbness wearting off though, or just the fact of feeling it differently because things have changed inside your mouth.

ahundredtimes · 24/03/2008 20:00

Oooh BIL has just texted saying, 'thank you for support and advice yesterday. Really helped. All feeling better today' - so maybe it will be okay.

I have texted back saying 'my friend Franny says you are both fuckers'

Pink, well done you for making lasagne and curry. I also think that unusual or exotic veg should get bonus points

Bahrain mmm....
spiced chicken and rice

seafood?

Greensleeves · 24/03/2008 20:03

Hi folks

Avi, sorry about your sore mouth! Nothing worse than toothache

and pinkspottywellies, poor you as well [soothe]

I have eaten jack shit in the way of f&v today, I have had a good friend and her 3 fabulous daughters here all day and we have eaten everything EXCEPT fruit and vegetables

have just ds1 sobbing in my lap though, after about 40 minutes of gentle stroking and coaxing from me he finally looked me in the eyes and completely broke down about going to school tomorrow

S1ur · 24/03/2008 20:04

heh 100x. And woohoo I'd take that as an opportunity to continue a campaign of touchy feely parenting, Operation Cuddle.

FrayedKnot · 24/03/2008 20:04

Hello lovely Veggers

i have just read all the posts since last night and said "Oh Dear" an awful lot

General hugs to one and all and more blankets and hot water bottles and chocolate and f&v obviously.

Greensleeves · 24/03/2008 20:04

I don't know if it would help avi, but my migraines are helped by viciously firmly massaging the area around/under the eyebrows - seems to help relax the muscles which constrict blood flow to the eye area.

S1ur · 24/03/2008 20:06

Oh Greeny that's so sad. Is this an ongoing thing? Your poor poor ds.

Avi - I hope you have dosed yourself up on painkillers?

FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2008 20:07

wombling yes hurrah for you bfing. Really hope he recovers quickly

hello Slur, I feel envy] of your fruitiness. Clingy stages are hard but I wouldn't be blaming yourself - what are you thinking of when you say disconnected?

Pink, Pak choi is lovely isn't it. We have it stir fried, green veg tastes so good and strangely sweet that way. Very sorry for your poor throat. Will you stock up with elder berry extract to boost your immune doodahs please. Your throat sounds pinker and spottier than your wellies

Avi oh it wasn't you, sorry. Thank you 100. I think I thought you may have noticed because you hate it so much. Everyone else thought I should have been going anyway

I wouldn't have thought chocolate withdrawal would cut in yet (when did you stop?) but whenever I give it up after over indulging I get dreadful banging headaches, sore throats and general malaise for about 5 day. You need to cut down gradually a la caffeine.

Am eating yogurt and grapes.

I have a meeting with the ugly old crow teacher and the stool pigeon Senco on Thursday in which I intend to kick some serious ass

but at the moment I am seriously entertaining the notion of just ripping him out of school. dh would be horrified and it would mean the end of my plans to become a nursery teacher... and tbh I'm not sure I would be doing the right thing for ds1 - but this is just heartbreaking, he doesn't understand why he is naughty and unpopular there

I am going to eat about 100 apples and oranges, to restore my karmic balance...

FrannyandZooey · 24/03/2008 20:16

would you consider taking him out and giving him a break until September perhaps, if things don't improve in the next [insert your time scale here]?

and HE doesn't mean the end to working yourself, you know

I know this would not be your first choice but I think I would be considering it at least temporarily if things don't improve rapidly
