I was going to use dh's camelbak if I get too dehydrated.

So I can look like a right eejit trying to pretend I'm a proper runner...

bramblebooks · 04/06/2008 15:15

You lot are so right - who'd have thought it of us in January.

But also - welcome to any lurkers considering running

Today I ran in shorts - way hay! Ok I had my long t shirt over the top, but it felt good. My t-shirt's motto is 'failure is not an option'. That's the last run now until the 'real thing'. I really must spend some of my 'holiday' rationalising the kids' bedrooms and my wardrobe!

SparklyPrincess · 04/06/2008 15:20

Shorts are such a long long way away! I get enough grief from passing pillocks in cars as it is!

electricbarbarella · 05/06/2008 07:40

My leg hurts, argh, i went for a walk with a friend last night as well as my run and this morning my knee is killing. What am I going to do.

Furball · 05/06/2008 07:44

my ipod battery needed charging last night so went with my mp3player and listened to rawb! did 5km. it was nice having him talking to me. I've missed him......

OP posts:
Furball · 05/06/2008 07:46

electricbarbarella - hope it's not serious. Maybe try getting a knee support thingy from boots to help it and also rubing in deep heat?

OP posts:
electricbarbarella · 05/06/2008 08:17

oh I had forgotten about deap heat, will buy some later. Is ok as long as I don't go up the stairs too much. A bit too close to my race for my liking as I can't reallt take a week off.

Itsthawooluff · 05/06/2008 10:39

Sparkly - are you going out today? Never mind the eejits, as you said at least you are doing something. My alternative T shirt slogan for the back of a T shirt would be "Yeah, my A**e is big, but I'm doing something about it" .

I'm hoping to go tomorrow morning, but back to the gym, will start building up road miles next week - hopefully

SparklyPrincess · 05/06/2008 11:49

Would love a t-shirt like that, wooluff!

Doesn't put me off, I just imagine the witty comebacks that I would have said if I was a) quick enough and b) hard enough to not worry if they started on me! But its an interesting mental exercise to take my mind of how many more minutes I've got to run!

Yep, out tonight, then on Saturday morning with dh. We've offloaded the kids to his parents for the weekend so we're going out friday night, then for a run (how odd is that!) on Saturday, then to a spa place before fetching the kids later. He's under strict instructions to run slightly behind me and to run at my pace - as his normal pace is a 7 minute mile!

Thanks for 'nagging' me btw, now I've got to go!

electricbarbarella · 05/06/2008 12:01

I could never come up with witty retorts due to the fact that i usually can't breath by that point. last night some people jogging and chatting, how do they do that?

wheelybug · 05/06/2008 12:34

Sparkly - don't worry about the hollerers... just think you're doing something about it. They can't do anything about their stupidity . Mind you, I did heckled by an old lady yesterday - she told me to run faster . The cheek...

Just been out for 6K and did a big hill. I have been avoiding 2 big hills since I started running (actually 2 sides of the same hill) and just did 1. Just have to build up the nerve to tackle the other.

Hope the legs ok EB.

Itsthawooluff · 05/06/2008 12:37

Weekend child free + time at a spa type place sounds fab. Enjoy! Mind you even when the GP's take the children, DH and I still end up drifting round B&Q - can't organise myself to save my life emoticon required!

electricbarbarella · 05/06/2008 16:12

Sp that souns loveley.
Wooly, I got heckled by an old man once.
have deap heat sprayed my leg and it is on fire but not actually helping th epian, mums at dd's nursery l;aughed at e as I can hardly walk.
Please let it be better for the weekend as I only have a week and I need to do my training.

bramblebooks · 06/06/2008 15:47

wooluff - If I ever go to a t-shirt place I'll get one of those printed up!

hmmmm - spa weekend - think I'll book a massage on Monday as I imagine I'll be in particular pain by then! I've got tubular bandages to wear on both knees after the run. Hopefully if I do more training they won't hurt as much after longer runs.

Anyway, I am officially a sad runner now as I have treated myself to a nike + thingy that works with my ipod. Very exciting it is too. If I'd realised that it was under £20, I'd have bought one sooner. I don't have the fancy shoes, so I've ordered a little pouch from a seller on amazon so that I can attach it to my 'proper' running shoes.

leccy barbie. Hope you recover soon, it's a horrid feeling. I'm a bit worried about my hips and knees as they're sore before I even do the race. My friend says that I need to warm up more, so I'll try that.

wheelybug · 06/06/2008 16:05

Brambles - I'd be really interested to hear how you get on with your nike thing. I have been considering asking for a nano for my birthday just so I can get the nike+ kit. I currently have a shuffle which is fantastic for running - on nursery days I run with an armband containing mobile and keys so not sure how I'd get on with a nano armband too... But, like the idea of the kit so can you let me know how you get on ?

electricbarbarella · 06/06/2008 17:50

I run with my handbag, i must look like a right plonker.
My knee is a lot better today so hopefully will be out at the weekend.

Theresa · 06/06/2008 23:24

can't believe last couple of posts as thats just what i've come on to ask. During winter i wear trackie bottome and sometimes a jacket so plenty of space for keys, phone & music but not so in the summer. My music is on a sony walkman - not the original type I hasten to add but one that I reckon is the size of an ipod and so i'm looking for an armband thingy to fit them all. Chepaest one i've seen is in argos and is either £12 or £14 and i'm a bit of a tight wad, also I cant work out from photo in catalogue whether its big enough. What does everyone else use and more importantly where can I buy one?

Minum · 07/06/2008 05:37

I have a small MP3 player, basically a memory stick, and put it, plus spare battery, plus front door key in a little pouch which I stuff down the front of my bra I did it originally as my headphone cord is short, and it didnt reach from my jogging bottoms pocket. Now I'm in summer gear with no pockets etc, its ideal.

gscrym · 07/06/2008 07:54

I'm interested in the nike thing too but was looking at the watch as I don't have am Ipod.

I've just completed the first of the podcasts without stopping so I'm going to try the next one today. Had planned to go out dead early but DH has just sodded off to get his car fixed. I would go out with DS but he can run faster than me and for longer (he's 5.

wheelybug · 07/06/2008 09:11

Theresa - I bought my armband off ebay - cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pink-Armband-pouch-style-Phone-holders-size-Large_W0QQitemZ320259218139QQihZ011QQcate goryZ68029QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. The seller told me the measurements, or I can measure for you. It holds my mobile and a set of keys on a keyring.

Gscym - I didn't realise they did the nike+ thing in watch form - that would be perfect. Will have a look at the pouches on ebay although I do need new running shoes too.... hmmmm....

bramblebooks · 07/06/2008 15:53

If anyone does do the nike plus thing, we can set up our own training targets and challenges for our group - ie, running 20k over a month, etc.

Hope you're all having a good weekend. I'm about to set off down to mum's so that I can do the run tomorrow. I'm suffering with a dodgy foot - rather achy along the top of it, so I hope it holds out.

electricbarbarella · 08/06/2008 09:30

5 yo's are fitter than all adults.
I need to go out and do my last 5k before next week today aklthough it is really hot again. I am now going to look at the nike thing, does it measure how far you have gone and stuff?

Furball · 08/06/2008 11:46

put shorts on for my 5km this morning - don't laugh but not being one to own an actualy pair of shorts - I dug out a pair from 10 years ago that are part of a pj set! was so much better than those double lined 3/4 things I'd been wearing. Am off to cheapo sports shop to get more shorts.

OP posts:
electricbarbarella · 08/06/2008 11:53

Cool, I habve just done 5k and it was the easiest run I have done yet, i did it in 34 mins which is a bit slower than I would like, I have changed my approach slightly and when i set off i tried to go as slowly as i could, I didn't need to rest at all and only had one small walk, i fifnish feeling really good and feel recovered already, i think I may have been trying to go to fast.
Anyway that leaves me with a little hope that I won't completly humiliate myself next week.

wheelybug · 08/06/2008 15:04
