Hope it went well Brambles.

bramblebooks · 08/06/2008 18:34

yaaaay! Thanks girls!! It was amazing - plenty of water stations as it was rather warm - and very hilly! I managed it in 1 hour 5 mins, which gives me something to beat in the future.

I'm on the right of the picture here number 136, with the pink stripes up the side of my running vest for diabetes uk.

It was fun using the nike plus, which comes custom set for someone with a shorter stride - I'll have to do a calibration run later this week when I regain the use of my legs!

I had an old lady nap this afternoon - it's rather warm here in Warwickshire - back off to Chester soon.

xx

wheelybug · 08/06/2008 19:39

gscrym · 08/06/2008 20:02

Well done Brambles. Hope you're feeling okay and recovering nicely.

Wheely, here's a bit about the Nike+ watch. Sportband.

Furball · 08/06/2008 21:05

well done bramble, especially in this heat! I'm doing 'The Blaydon Race' tomorrow at 7.15. It's 5.9 miles, based on a traditional Newcastle song about a race dating back to 1800s. Song says it was on 9th June so always has to be on that date!
Wheely, that armband looks good, bigger than the ones i've seen but have had a hectic weekend so not had chance to have a proper look. May come back to you for measurements, do oyu think i could squash phone and MP3 player into pocket?

wheelybug · 08/06/2008 22:10

Good luck tomorrow Theresa - is that am or pm ? It may sound facetious but I guess it depends on the size of your phone and MP3 . I could fit my phone and MP3 in but I have a shuffle !!

Gscrym - really liking the idea of the nike+ band. Going to put it on my birthday list which is only in a few weeks.

electricbarbarella · 09/06/2008 08:07

well done bramble, and good luck theresa.
That sounds like quite a mad race.
I have woken up full o fcold after working last night I hope it is a quick one as I need to get one more run in before Sun.
I wanted to thank you lot for keeping me running I am really starting to actually enjoy it and feel really good not only after but during.
I think without you lot I would probably have given up in about Feb.

LadyJogsAlot · 09/06/2008 09:32

hello everyone, i'm going out today.
first time in ages so i'm a bit nervous but must get back on track as i haven't been out for a while.

everyone has done so well. well done brambles - you look fab!

SparklyPrincess · 09/06/2008 12:25

Hiya, thought I'd better report back on my lovely weekend.

Dropped kids off at lunchtime Friday, went had haircut, saw film, ate out. Got up Saturday morning, went for run in rain with dh, soaked in selection of bubbly baths for a couple of hours.

Was so shattered could barely speak when I went to get the girls!

Run was ok, foolishly wore a waterproof (which I thought was thin!) and wore it round my waist for 95% of the outing, not particularly comfy!

Did 28 mins, mostly ran. Determined to do it without wussing out at all next time! Out tomorrow - by which time the blisters caused by my high heels on Friday will have healed. Why do I wear them??!

Well done Brambles, great time! Good luck, Theresa!

Itsthawooluff · 09/06/2008 12:57

Well done Brambles, you looked so comfortable - Was the photo early on?

Sounds like a great weekend Sparkly. And good luck Theresa for this evening, and welcome back LJA

Furball · 10/06/2008 09:53

been out again this morning, twas nice as not too hot and sunny yet. I also upped the pace.

I'm still back with rawb - oh I've missed him, someone commented this morning they've never seen anyone running whilst singing to themselves (I daren't let out a noise whilst wearing headphones - I'd probably be shouting it down the street ) - whilst looking more of a prat than usual quite an impressive task I think, - 'you try it' I thought!!!

Honest opinions, I last went out on Sunday and did 5k, I have my rfl on Sunday but I don't think I am going out before hten, I am not feeling too well and my mum recjons running will make it worse and then I will end up not being able to do it.
Do you think I will be OK to do Sun if I haven't been out for a week?

lilibet · 10/06/2008 15:02

I'm trying to pluck up courage to join you.

I keep thinking very seriously about it

I love the idea of running but am not sure I have the commitment.

I am very unfit, about 3 stone overweight and 45!

And I'm not sure where I would run - I really wouldn't wnat to be seen by anyone who knows me until I can run for 5 minutes or so without stopping adn I know that is a long way off

I also live half way up a hill, so wouldn't be able to hande the inclines at first

If I went to a park I would feel daft

I thought of the canal towpath but am not sure how safe I would feel

Someone talk to me!

wheelybug · 10/06/2008 15:07

EB - you'll be ok I reckon. I think your mum is right and you'll only make yourself worse if you try and run when you are ill. I did it once and almost collapsed and then was virtually in bed for 4 days.

Welcome Lilibet - come on ! You can do it. Once you start you'll be fine. I didn't think I'd stick to it (as I've never stuck to gyms before) but in 4 days time it will be 5 months since I started running . Dont' worry about the inclines - you start off walking at the beginning and at the end so you'll only have to walk the hilly bits and if you have an ipod on you tune out from whats around you so its not quite so bad running around where you live. I did stick to areas where I knew less people though at first. where a hat and sunglasses .

bramblebooks · 10/06/2008 18:12

passing lilibet a comedy beard and overcoat - come on hon, you can do it - we did. The only glances you'll be getting will be ones from people wishing they could get off their backsides and do something about their health.

giving wooluff a wedgie. Yes, it was 1k in, but I am just as fragrant at the end. Read into that what you will

I am gagging to get out for another run, but will wait until the morning for a 3k (to calibrate the nike sensor). My mate's coming round for Pimms, so I don't fancy running afterwards tonight - would be amusing to watch though!

My legs feel tired, but really strong and muscly. At last

Furball - I occasionally air guitar when I run!!!

Theresa · 10/06/2008 21:14

Come on in lilibet you've nothing to lose except those excess pounds!!
Blaydon race was fab, great atmosphere, about 4000 doing it and I wasnt last! It's officially 5.9 miles but quite a few people on a local chatroom said their Garmins measured it at 6.1 - even better! I did it in 1hr, 2 mins & 39 seconds! Brill goody bag including a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale and a big cheese sarnie! Lots of local bands set up along the course playing music to help us on our way, quite unique I suspect!! (How many other races give out a bottle of beer at the end!!?)
Race was pm wheely & I think I may just order that armband, thanks

LadyJogsAlot · 10/06/2008 21:15

brambles and furball - i tend to wave my hands like i'm clubbing when a tune drops
rawb's music was particularly bad for this as i got so into the uplifting beats!

i went out to my aerobics class tonight. ahh, so good to get some exercise this week.

we're moving to mil's house until dh has finished his term teaching, then we properly move into our new house in reading! london to reading, seems like such a big step... anyway, i digress, she has a running machine so there will really be no excuse for not running

lili, please come and join us. you have nothing to lose. we are a large group of ladies who were all couch potatoes and now we are exercise addicts! we all started not being able to jog for very long at a time. we've all gone at our own pace, some completing couch potato to 5k in 10 weeks, some taking longer. i STILL haven't got to 5k and i started in january but i've completely changed the way i feel about exercise and have lost 16 lbs. i have gone from a 16 to a 14 bottom and 12 top. i look very different ad i feel much better about myself.

get yourself out there and turn up your music, keep your eyes ahead and you won't know who is there. before you know it you'll be running for a few mins, then 5, then 20 and on.

YOU CAN DO IT!

LadyJogsAlot · 10/06/2008 21:17

well done theresa!

wheelybug · 10/06/2008 22:45

Well done theresa - LOL at bottle of ale... glad it was pm in that case .

Waves at LJA - glad you're back in exercise mode - 16 lbs - thats fab !! I'm on about 13 so far....

bramblebooks · 10/06/2008 22:47

I like the sound of that goodie bag!

logging in after jogging in. Decided to go after all and managed a 3k - still a bit tired after the big run, but love love love my new ipod wristband thingy and nike plus. (Is a secret gadget freak!)

LadyJogsAlot · 11/06/2008 09:01

i've a feeling my motivational rant may have sounded a bit smug

in my defense i was high on endorphins

LadyJogsAlot · 11/06/2008 09:01

wheely, one more to go!

wheelybug · 11/06/2008 09:38

Actually - as of this morning I have LOST A STONE.... wooo hooo !!! In fact, It was maybe 1 stone 1 lb but my £2 ikea scales aren't the most accurate so we'll say a stone .
