6.5 miles I really need to pull my finger out. SIL who I am training along side but in different places IYSWIM is taking her running stuff on a weekend away with her, I feel very guilty but I guess she will have thew last laugh when I collapse and die and she finishes the race.

Wheelybug · 28/04/2008 21:10

LOL Theresa - I know what you mean - I was meant to have a plumber here doing some work and so had planned NOT to run (monday is my usual running time as dd at nursery) but he postponed to tomorrow but I just couldn't make myself go out because I had planned NOT to. Which was a bit silly really because I won't get my 3 runs in this week now as dd is off nursery on thurs as they're using it as a polling station so I'll get out weds and then saturday and then we have friends here on sunday. Ah well.....

Itsthawooluff · 29/04/2008 09:19

Furball - how have I caught your cold over cyberspace? Snotty and wheezing and not running! It's pants

LadyJogsAlot · 29/04/2008 09:30

i'm the same about running, sometimes i have to stop myself from convincing myself not to go for one reason or another! i find it best not to thin about it too much

i went out last night on week 6 day 1 (jogs of 5, 8 and 5 mins). was easy. today is 2 x 10 mins.

day three of this week is 25 mins EEEEEKKKK!
not sure if i'll do it though as am going jogging with a friend for that jog and she likes to talk. maybe it'll benefit me by distracting me, or maybe i'll be too out of puff to jog continuously...

we used to jog together before i had the baby. she is super fit. last time i jogged with her it was about 2 months after ds was born and i was 1-2 stones heavier and could only jog for about a min at a time! hope i can show off a bit

how you feeling all you sickies out there?
i do feel much better although still having waves of nausea, surprisingly felt better after going out last night.

MommyUpNorth · 29/04/2008 09:45

Hi everyone! Can I join? I've just browsed through the new year thread and had a look at the schedule over on runner's world for beginners. I did cross country in high school, but that was sooooo long ago now!

I've not done any running (or real exercise for that matter) in quite a while. I'm planning the first week run for this evening. We have a rather large field with a track round it, so I'll start with that. No excuses when the kids are playing out that I have no one to watch them

Am also thinking about setting a goal of either a 5k fun run in Oct, or the 10k, but don't know which to go for. Which do you all think is achievable? Should I aim high, or just stick to the 5k for the first attempt?

Oh, one more question. Earlier in the thread there is mention of the podcasts for these weeks of running. Is that on the runner's world site, or somewhere else?

MommyUpNorth · 29/04/2008 09:47

Duh... never mind the last question... just scrolled down a bit and saw the link!

LadyJogsAlot · 29/04/2008 10:16

hullo MUN!

not sure about your goals, maybe set 5 k first? i think better to achieve your first goal easily than to set a goal which is a lot of pressure on you.

if you do find the 5 k easy you can work on doing it faster and beating your time iykwim.

hope you enjoy the podcasts, they have been highly successful here

Furball · 29/04/2008 10:25

link for podcasts is on the very first post

I'm still 'chesty' - though not in a way dh would appreciate . I've decided to give it a whirl tonight and do at least 4K, lets hope I don't get wet.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2008 15:52

i think i might start this. the thing is though how do you know when you have jogged for 60 seconds or whatever. i should imagine it's hard to run and look at your watch at the same time!!

MommyUpNorth · 29/04/2008 15:57

Hi nappyaddict. I'm new to this thread as well... just started today! I was thinking the same as you, but if you're able to download the podcast link, then the guy times it all out for you while you listen. He starts with a warm up, then the 60 sec and 90 sec. There is music, but he talks to say when it's time to switch. Without this, I don't know what I'd do... was thinking about taking out 2 kitchen timers!

nappyaddict · 29/04/2008 15:59

can you download them to a normal mp3 player? i don't have an ipod.

MommyUpNorth · 29/04/2008 15:59

Oh and I did the very first one this afternoon! Got out just before the rain came, and am feeling very good about it. Wondering if I'm going to feel it tomorrow!

MommyUpNorth · 29/04/2008 16:00

probably. We have a zen thing which dh will do when he gets home, but I just put it onto a cd and used that. It seemed to work just fine.

nappyaddict · 29/04/2008 16:01

creative zen? that's what i have too. let me know if it works on that.

Wheelybug · 29/04/2008 16:07

Hello ! Yes you can download them to an MP3 rather than Ipod. Its a different download. Someone explained it a few days ago I think... will see if I cna find it...

Wheelybug · 29/04/2008 16:11

scroll down to - LadyJogsAlot on Sun 27-Apr-08 17:55:08 . There is alink and everything.

Welcome btw Nappyaddict and Mummyupnorth - well done for going out today MUN !

Ladyjogs - oyu've already done 23 minutes, 25 is only 2 minutes more. You'll be fine.

MY Fecking plumber is now coming tomorrow - the only chance I was going to have to run this week, apart from weekend. Think I'm going to have to do it anyway and come back sweaty and red (luckily he doens't have to turn water off so I can still shower but still its not ideal.....

LadyJogsAlot · 29/04/2008 16:12

see my posts on sun 27th april for mp3 dwnld

nappyaddict · 29/04/2008 16:25

does anyone run everyday? and if so do you do two stages in one week or still just do one stage but for more days?

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 08:53

Welcome nappyaddict and MUN. Well done for taking the first steps, they are the hardest as everyone on here will tell you, it is amazing fun once you get into it.
Lady jogs you can do 25mins easy, hope everyone else is feelig a bit better, I am also still a little chesty.

Here is my new plan, tell me what you think, I am only managing to get out twice a week at the moment although i could propbably fit a third session in if I kept it short, ie about 4k.

Today and sun 5.6k

Next wed and sun 6.45k

Week after 7.40k

Week after 8.65k

Week after 10k

Shit thats 10 in about 5 weeks, doable?

If I go on a big run weds and sun will try to fit a shorter run in on Fridays.

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 08:54

OMG just realised I referred to 4k as short

misdee · 30/04/2008 09:00

well done ladies!

cant belive this thread is still going!

well my morning sickness has subsided. I have my first booking in appointment this week, so will speak to my midwife regarding exercise and running.

I am still taking part in race for life in june, even if i can only walk it.

Keep going everyone!

if i cant run this year, i will be back with a new thread next january to get some new beginners, by next year you will all be running marathons!

LadyJogsAlot · 30/04/2008 09:10

glad you're feeling better misdee, once again thanks for starting this thread.

good luck with that dita, i'm sure you'll manage.

Furball · 30/04/2008 09:24
