Just got back, 5.6k took 40mins though and now I can't actually stop shaking.
Glad your feeling better misdee.
I can't believe how each time I go out it is easier, last time I did just under 5k and stopped to walk at least 3 times, this time I only walked once and it was a lot further on than last.
Starting to think I may actually be able to do this 10k. I made a bit of an error in my routing this morning though, I started going up hill but I had forgotten quite how steep it is, will have to change that slighly for next time as I really struggled.
I like going out in the rain, or at least if it starts when I am out, kreeps you cool, it is a bit too warm here for me today.

Oh arse. It keeps stopping and I think... right i'm off and then it starts heavier than before......

Am going NOW. Even though its bucketing.... Think of soggy ol' me.

(Well done Dita !).

Go on wheely, just think in 30mins you can be as sweaty as me

Theresa · 30/04/2008 12:08

Dita I'm impressed. I've just done 6.8k in 46 mins and feel knackered, unfortunately it doesnt seem to be getting easier for me and my times are getting a bit slower, never mind I shall peresevere! I did a 10K race Easter Sunday and was v disapointed with my time of about 1hr 9mins and the fact there were about 1400 people in front of me and about 100 behind! In my defence it was along the seafront and very windy! Keep up the good work with your positive attitude you cand do it!

Wheelybug · 30/04/2008 12:38

Woo hoo 6K in 36 minutes. Light drizzle all round which was quite refreshing !!

Wheelybug · 30/04/2008 12:41

Thanks Dita ! And Teresa, if you want to get time up - is it worth doing a shorter run and doing that quicker and then extending ? I don't know, you are clearly more experienced than me but my plan is when I do 5K runs, I run them as quick as I can but then some runs I plan to do longer and so run slower IYSWIM. Hopefully I'#ll be able to build up on the 5K so that a longer run is my set run and then get that quicker.

Whereabouts are you if it was along the seafront ?? (Am a girl bought up on the seafront and desperate to get back...)

Furball · 30/04/2008 12:51

right, just got back from the docs - am now on AB's for chesty, whizzy cough and can't run until at least Saturday

furball, I have just walked 2 miles to get dd2 to go to sleep so that I can watch neighbours in peace and now my legs hurt. top of my thighs, what would be the best stretch?
My time is shocking but I am trying very hard to increase didtance so go very slow, I also set off up a very steep hill and first 1/2 k took me about 8 mins. won't make that mistake again. I have been mapping out where I can get my mum to drop me off and run home, got a 6k route for the weekend and then may try 7k next week

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 13:31

Theresa forgot to say 10k is amazing no matter what your time was.

Theresa · 30/04/2008 14:53

for furball. Well done Wheely, we're all the same, the thought of getting out there is awful but once you;ve done it you feel so chuffed. You're right about the shorter runs, when I feel things aren't going well I've a couple of 3mile (4.8k) runs to give me a boost and I can do these a bit quicker but am thinking along the same lines as Dita and trying to get my distance up

Hogiabach · 30/04/2008 15:16

Hi Ladies, just reading your thread

I started running 2 months ago - DS2 is 4 months. It's been fantastic and I'm loving it. I'm a little on the slow side though tend to do 9 minute miles. I manage to do 3-4 runs in per week, but didn't get any last week as DH was working crazy hours so couldn't go as I have nobody to look after DC.
Anyway went today for 3 miles which was great, though did get very wet. Plan to go again tomorrow - need some good sounds for Ipod though - any suggestions?

Wheelybug · 30/04/2008 15:34

furball. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Dita - been thinking about your stretch - what about if you sit on the floor with your feet touching sole to sole but knees out IYSWIM ?

Theresa - if you're working on distance, I wouldn't worry about time. THat will probably come after - do you have a distance you're aiming for ? I've probably said this already so sorry if I'm boring but I am trying to do both distance and speed - I aim for a distance (first one was 5K for the RFL) and when I can comfortably do that distance run that distance a couple of times a week at 'speed' (ahem !) but then once a week try and stretch the distance but run slower. Once RFL is over, I'll just concentrate on getting up to 10K and then work on speed at 10K etc.

Hogiabach - wow ! Well done on starting running when your ds was 2 month. It took me until dd was 3 to get out . There was a thread a couple of weeks back about ipod running tunes from which I got some good ones from. I'll see if I can find it.

Wheelybug · 30/04/2008 15:35

here it is

Hogiabach · 30/04/2008 15:40

Oh thanks Wheelybug I'll take a look.

DS1 is 3, so really it's taken me three years too! I want to run the FLM next year, if I get a place. You're all inspiring me loads....

Furball · 30/04/2008 15:51

I feel OK in myself, just sound like darth vader who's swallowed an ununed violin.

just to kick me when I'm down the doctors reception was chatting to someone and said she hopes it stops raining as she wants to go for a run later.

I must say never in all my life until this year (and I'm 41) have I ever or even dream't I'd ever say 'I'm just popping out for a half hour run' fabudandydocious though ain't it?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 30/04/2008 16:43

does anyone run every day?

Furball · 30/04/2008 16:44

rawb - our leader says go every other day

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 30/04/2008 17:08

Yes Rawb says every other day so we daren't go more often as he is our esteemed leader .

Seriously though, I think you do need to take some breaks. I do sometimes go 2 days in a row if its the only way to get 3 runs in a week but I prefer not to. I am trying to increase my runs up to 4 x week and that will mean running two days in a row but haven't managed it yet.

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 17:11

I think if you go everyday you will soon get bored or hurt yourself and be unable to carry on.

Theresa · 30/04/2008 18:44

Hogi - I dream of doing a 9 minute mile, you cant possible call that slow!

bramblebooks · 30/04/2008 19:00

Running through to say hello! Did 7k on Fri but have been grotty/too busy to go since then. Am going to rest up and go for a 5k+ this Fri, then Sunday for a longer run.

knees up and smile, all

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2008 19:18

My lehgs (and now my bum) really hurt

Hogiabach · 30/04/2008 20:51

Theresa - my DH says it's a bit slow, so I took his word for it. He times me!
