Dita, check out www.goodrunguide.com to measure some routes it's totally fab. Spamm hope you are feeling better. I'm just back from 3.42 miles whihc i managed to do without stopping in 36 mins 10 secs, a speed of 10.35 mins per mile whihc is mega for me! and my goodrunguide tells me that's 5.5k. Check out that site I cant recommend it enough!
Spamm that's dreadful, hope you're feeling better, my experience of dogs and their owners has always been good so far!

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 10:59

I just got back from 2.94miles, going to check goodrunguide now as I have mapped it already. 28mins so I am quite proud, was a slog though but I am still not 100% and I haven't run for a week and a half.
Theresa, I think it was you that put me onto that sight to start with, thanks it's fab.

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 11:03

Checked is 4.7km so need to go a bit further which is a shame as it is really conventiant to run back from my mums.

Theresa · 23/04/2008 11:09

That's a fab time Dita even more so as you're not well. It is really difficult to get back into it when you've had a break for what ever reason so well done for getting out there and doing it

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 11:35

Just measuring some routes out, how come doing 3 1 mile laps of the park doesn't seem very far but when you actually map a journey to get to 3 miles seems like so far away and a bit scary. Kind of og I don't want to be that far from home what if i break my leg or collapse or something.

bramblebooks · 23/04/2008 12:00

Well done Theresa - I'll look for that site. Dita, you rock!!

It's a day for running outside, although I feel like I've eaten my bodyweight in flies - now I know why runners and cyclists spit - ew! I'll be wearing a cap and looking slightly down from now on. 5k and a better speed of under 30 mins than on the treadmill I'm making myself run a route with a mild slope so that it helps me to get ready for my June 10k.

bramblebooks · 23/04/2008 12:01

passing spamm a stun gun. That is awful! Hope all the snotty ones are getting better.

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 12:02

I can't believe I have wasted my entire morning that I have to myself on here and mapping runs, I love the buzz though.
Bramble 10k in June wow.

Wheelybug · 23/04/2008 12:03

Well done everyone ! Good for you Dita getting back out there - great time !

Have done 5K this morning, in the rain. Must have looked a sight as I realised half way round I was wearing a red cap, salmon pink fleece with a purpley-pink mobile phone holder strapped to my arm. Oh well.... Forgot to turn stop watch on at start which was a shame as was trying to run as fast as poss. Turned it on at 1 mile and think I did about 28 mins, but that might be wishful thinking .

Need to go back out tomorrow - so pray for sun.

bramblebooks · 23/04/2008 16:17

tee hee dita - it's easy to get caught in the void! I'm going to map out Friday's 9k (whilst checking metcheck !)

10k next week I hope (I use hope in its loosest sense here). But yes, the real one in June - laughed last year having achieved 5k at the suggestion of doing any more. What's keeping me going at the moment is the desire not to make a complete clot of myself on the day.

Wow wheely, well done - I think running outside makes you go faster (especially with people watching)

UnderRated · 23/04/2008 18:33

Gosh, you are all running a really long way.

I've been doing my 30 mins on a treadmill and go about 2 miles. But am only on week 2, so much of that is walking.

Is week 3 really running for 3 mins? It sounds like a very big jump from week 2 and I was hoping I had misheard.

Well done everyone - I am most impressed that you can all do this. It gives me motivation! And I have lost weight so even better

LadyJogsAlot · 23/04/2008 19:52

underrated, it always seems like a big jump but somehow you manage!

i'm out tomorrow for my 20 min jog.
really doubting myself atm.
last nights 2x8 was quite hard, add four more mins on that... i dunno.

i'm two pounds off of a stone since jan, i realy want to reach that goal.

MOTIVATE ME!

brmable, wheely, minum, thresa and dita - wow! you guys are running so far

how's everyone else doing? especially the newbies - are you still with us?!

Wheelybug · 23/04/2008 20:11

Ladyjogs - I remembr feeling like that before the 20 minuter... In fact, I think it was only Minum and PSW (where are you PSW ?) telling me it was achievable that made me think I could do it. So, You can too !

Underrated - well done. I also remember week 3 feeling like quite a jump but am sure you'll be just fine.

Bramble - looking forward to hearing about your 10K ! My friend who is running the 5K RFL with me has just signed up for a 10K in September which I might do too (its flatter than the orginal one I was planning in OCt ).

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 20:19

Wheely, that is my plan too, RFL in June and Great Yorkshire run in Sep.
I think I will be ok but I am a bit worried about my SIL as she lives in Norfolk and is coming up to Sheff for the run, I think there may be a big difference between running in Norfolk and Sheffield hillyville.
i have actually been ok all day and my legs don't even hurt, I did have to walk a couple of small sectrions but mainly because I can't drink and run. Also my IPod ran out about 2mins in so I did the run with no music.
Ladyjogs, really good luck for next week and nearly a stone
Underrated you are doing so well keep going, it is a lot easier than it seems.

UnderRated · 24/04/2008 03:00

Thanks for the encouragement! Can't go running til Saturday so will be out of practice by then. Have done a bit of yoga but it's not the same, is it?

This thread is great motivation

EffiePerine · 24/04/2008 06:25

Right, managed the next week on my plan (8 mins running, 2 walking x 3) and it wasn't too bad . I did get a but hot towards the end so slowed down(even more).

Have just worked out my due date is New Year's Eve

ditavonteesed · 24/04/2008 07:51

Effie how exciting, we will probably all toast you then

LadyJogsAlot · 24/04/2008 08:03

uh oh. crossed legs effie?!

Wheelybug · 24/04/2008 12:08

Ladyjogs - how did the 20 minuter go ?

Effie - I will have a glass of champagne for you on your due date . Well done on the run.

Have done 5K this morning - just managed to avoid the rain today and managed to turn stopwatch on - so 28.1 minutes which I'm quite pleased with.

For those who are thinking of going from 5-10K soon I have found this training programme www.cancerresearchuk.org/10k/pdfs/regularrunner Which looks similar to the one we've doing for 5K. The only thing is, it only takes you running up to 45 minutes and unless you run a 7.5 minute mile thats not going to take you to 10K. I guess you could extend it though. Or Maybe once you're up to running for 45 minutes they think you can just continue to 10K ?!?

Anyway, I'm planning at the moment, until RFL (about 3 weeks away I think - yikes) to do 2 5K runs a week as fast as poss and then one longer one to try and increase distance. Then after RFL increase distance..... or give up .

Itsthawooluff · 24/04/2008 13:12

Like the idea of a going on from 5k program, so thanks Wheelybug. How do we persuade Rawb to do a podcast for 10k?

Meanwhile back on the current programme, I managed first 28 minuter, but had a 45 second walk just after half way to drink as was soooo dry. Feel a bit wimpy tbh.

Furball · 24/04/2008 13:16

wooluffy - I drove through your patch yesterday! I was expecting to see you you know, I did look out for you. But then assumed you probably didn't run along the main road anyway.

OP posts:
LadyJogsAlot · 24/04/2008 14:47

wheely, am going out tonight.
i really don't think i can make it

stupid thing is that i've already done week five and was running much further. i've lost it mentally.

still, must move on from this -ve shit.
tonight is my night for +ve thinking.
20 mins here i come.

(or i might just do 2 x 8 mins once more
)

Minum · 24/04/2008 15:14

LJA - you can make it, I know how it feels when you think you are going backwards, but you're not, you're jogging on the spot (so to speak) and will be racing forwards again soon

Best of luck tonight - whether you do 20 mins or 2 x 8 mins - let us know how it goes

Wheelybug · 24/04/2008 15:34

Ladyjogs - you can do it. Do it thinking - I am going to do 20 minutes but if I need to I can walk a little bit in the middle and try and keep pushing the walking bit as in 'in a minute I'll walk for a bit' and keep telling yourself that. You'll be just fine.

Woolluf - Well done, walking for 45 secs in the middle is hardly anything - next time you'll be able to run right through.

SparklyPrincess · 24/04/2008 15:49

Good luck LJA - know how you feel, that 20 minuter is looming in the next couple of weeks and I can't imagine getting that far! The 5 minutes is bad enough and it feels like a hell of a jump from 8 to 10... but I guess it's really just dropping a walking break.

I've done two of the week 3 runs and found it not too bad, wondering whether to skip ahead to wk 4 run 1 - maybe it would give me brownie points to drop back a session in the future!

Anyway, going to yoga tonight so out running again tomorrow.
