'Just started jogging two weeks ago and am mananging a slow 20 minute jog every day' it took us 6 weeks hard slog to get to that! - are you bionic?

OP posts:
hercules1 · 22/04/2008 07:47

Please note I said 'slow'! Just got to the 20 minutes slow mark yesterday!

My ankles are sore today. No money to buy better trainers though.

EffiePerine · 22/04/2008 08:26

Right, tonight is jump from 5 mins to 8... I have a feeling it's going to be much harder.

I want to keep on exercising if poss, I did with DS (although not running) until about 7 months and I felt much better for it. Had a pretty easy pg as well, although there may be no connection!

I need to watch out for being clumsy though, have already melted the coffee maker bby forgetting to put the water in

EffiePerine · 22/04/2008 08:27

Hercules: I am mega slow but would still struggle to run 20 mins! I don;t like getting too hot and out of breath, so maybe not pushing myself as much as I could be doing.

hercules1 · 22/04/2008 09:09

I find listening to music helps. Believe me the jog was not much faster than a walk in fact probably the same speed as a fairly fast walk if that.

Hurray - first time back proper running since the two week school hols, and I managed my 30 minutes It was a beautiful morning but the mosquitos were a nightmare, I choked on them twice

Effie - sorry to hear about the coffee machine - I'm taking DS on his first 8 minuter this week, I didnt find it too bad once I'd done the 3x5 - but I still remember how pleased I felt when I achieved it - good luck

jogym · 22/04/2008 10:42

Hi all I am a newbie to running myself. At the moment after 6 weeks I can now run 4 miles without stopping. Haven't stopped once actually the whole time because if I do it'll become a habit. I am running a marathon leg 5.3 miles so next Sunday is my last 4.5 mile run then marathon day. I did 4 miles in 35 minute and at the beginning I could not run any more than 5 minutes without gasping for breath! but is is hard this running business. Have been suffering from shin splints.

spamm · 22/04/2008 11:37

Effe - wow, great news, congratulations. I cannot believe you are running though. When I think back to those early days, I was always sooo exhausted and was asleep by 6pm.

I went our on Sunday evening which was great, and I am now starting the second week on Podcast 2 - I think it makes sense for me to repeat each one for an extra week, as I build up my confidence.

I am still daunted by the thought of running for 5 mins, let alone 20-30 mins. I am also worried about where on earth I am going to run to. I need to do some serious mapping, as I am getting further each time and it is getting a bit worrying.

Minum - lol at mosquitoes - bleuughhh!

I am going out again tonight as long as the weather holds. The neighbours are starting to notice, which is very funny. I have lived here 7 years and never been out excercising before, so they really do not expect it!

EffiePerine · 22/04/2008 11:39

Spamm, I find that exercise actually helps a bit with the tiredness, though am only a few weeks in so I may change my mind

LadyJogsAlot · 22/04/2008 18:39

did my jog early today. was lovely in the sunshine although a bit hot!

did 2 x 8 mins jog. still finding it hard and have slowed down a bit. can't imagine me making the 20 min jog on thurs but we'll see.

is everyone out in the sun?

spamm · 22/04/2008 21:34

OK - went out earlier, beautiful weather and really enjoyed it, but - you will not believe this - I was bitten by a dog! aaaaagghhhh

I am fine - no damage, except to my left asic, which now has two neat tooth holes in it. I was a little shaken, but honestly, I could not really stop because Rawb had just told me it was time to run again.

But if I see them again, I am going to have words - WTF. I was slightly shaken and did not quite know what to say - I am so polite! I have a large dog and I would NEVER let him bite anybody running past, but the man and woman (with small toddler in buggy) said "oh sorry, he's never done that" and just carried on. Anyway, that is the most adventurous run so far.

nappyaddict · 23/04/2008 00:48

DEBBIEWEBWEB please can you email me on tobys_mummy at btinternet dot. i have a question to ask about baby eye tests cos you posted saying your dc had them from 8 months.

UnderRated · 23/04/2008 01:18

Hello all - haven't had time to catch up on the thread but wanted to report that I have completed week 2

This is much more fun that I ever thought!

I think week 3 might be too hard but I haven't listened to it yet so I don't know what I am in for. May have to stay on week 2 for a second week.

Furball · 23/04/2008 06:39

boohoo - I have the lurgy! bad cough and cold. feel rubbish. It better not linger, I wanna go running.......

UnderRated · 23/04/2008 06:41

Oh no furball. I hope you feel better soon

Minum · 23/04/2008 07:39

Spamm, thats awful, every runners nightmare, hope you are feeling OK this morning, and it hasnt put you off. Love the idea of you carrying on going because Rawb was in your ear

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 08:04

Thats high class nagging.
Furball, I feel your pain, i want to go out and do 5k, planned from my mums back to mine is 2.94miles, close enough and she will look after dd's for a couple of hours. I can't decide whether to go or not as I have a cough and think I will prob end up just coughing all day and prob wee myself.
Was talking to a lady who does proper running but has not been into it for a while and asked her is she was running again, she sauid oh yes try to go out twice a week now. So I smugly asked how far she did as I am up to 5k now oops, she said they usually do about 10miles. She was lovely and supportive and said 5k was fab and lots of really nice encouraging things, felt like a bit of a ninny, she also told me how far loads of routes from my house are (she lives on the next road). Was great, shall have to increase my running so i have lots to chat about as she was lovely.

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 08:05

Underrated, I have just noticed the time on your post, if you are up at 1am I am amazed and in awe that you can run at all, well done.

UnderRated · 23/04/2008 08:10

I'm in the US, Dita, so it wasn't late when I posted before. It is now 2:10 am and I still haven't gone to bed. I will not be running tomorrow!

ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 08:22

Ah ha, I am so self involved and insulare that i forget there are other places. Go to bed now, where abouts in US are you?

Furball · 23/04/2008 08:48

spamm - that is really awful, I think you should at least report it in case it happens again, it's bad enough for you, but what if it had been a child? am ed at the owners to just be like that about it, even if you didn't want to stop running.

OP posts:
LadyJogsAlot · 23/04/2008 08:54

spamm, that is terrible - you should report it.

furball, get well x

Furball · 23/04/2008 08:57

Thanks for messages - I am OK, just snotty and coughy. Don't want to run as might make chest worse, but am carrying on (obviously as I'm female ) with normal stuff.

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 23/04/2008 09:09

Spamm, were they your new shoes, you should make the owners pay for them if you see them again. [
