furball

welcome underated. this program is so great and the peeps on this thread are incredibly supportive!

minum, yes i think i need to rethink music.
jogging to what i love but it doesn't seem to do me any favours.

i think i need someone (ie rawb) telling when to stop otherwise i give up too easily.

gonna run 3 x 5 mins which doesn't seem like a lot really considering where i got to but i think i need to retrace my steps a bit.

wish me luck

Wheelybug · 14/04/2008 19:58

Welcome Underrated ! The programme is great (but seems to brainwash us all ).

Right well I am starting back in ernest tomorrow morning and I will do 3 runs this week. DD is in a creche tomorrow morning, my parents are staying at the end of the week and we're not doing anything at the weekend so I should be able to fit in 3 at least. Then dd is back in nursery next week so back on track.

Not sure how far to do tomorrow though - don't know if I'm using a break as an excuse not to run as far... Maybe will map a route where I have a number of quitting options ().

Off to revamp my ipod after that thread last week about running tunes...

LadyJogsAlot · 14/04/2008 21:02

done

did 3 x 5 mins which felt v easy.
next time 2 x 8 mins.

enjoyed running to rawb.

what do you guys think about when you jog?
i find i really have to think about things to keep my mind off of stopping.
i think about the future and how i will look in my new body once i've lost loads of lbs!
i imagine how i will look in different outfits that i've always wanted to wear and upcoming events this year that i will be at.
sometimes i think about running the marathon or something

i really have to focus my thoughts to take my mind of off stopping, does everyone do this?

maybe that's why i can't jog to my own music. need rawb's podcasts to get in a trance!

Lady - Am I supposed to think as well?

Right now I am thinking "don't stop, don't stop, don't stop". This evening, I did think about telling people about learning to run, when I am ready... and at times I have to think "Breath", as I realise I am not breathing properly.

I went out this evening and did my first week 2 podcast and I genuinely enjoyed it. I was so surprised when he told me I was half way through, as I thought I had another run to go.

But I have to say, in the first 90 second run, I started wondering whether Rawb had forgotten to say "well done - you can slow to your....". But I did it and survived - yeeeeehhhhh.

Furball - I cannot see myself ever running to that music - how do you keep up.

LadyJogsAlot · 14/04/2008 21:38

well done spamm.

maybe i think too much - maybe that's why i keep falling over

spamm - it was an accident running to that - thought I'd downloaded something else. But I did keep up! you'll be surprised how quickly you'll find yourself going for a quick 5k as well - promise.

Welcome to the mad runners thread Lottie - I haven't seen Rawb's piccie - is he hot ?

Thanks for the encouragement Ladyjogs - I shall be thinking of you cheering me on tomorrow. Not sure what I think about - I do find it a real psychological thing and find it really hard if I'm thinking about running and what I'm doing and how far I'm going and how far I've got left IYSWIM ! I sing along (in my head -honest) to the music and think about why I'm doing this.

Well done Spamm - keep going...

Looking forward to the run tomorrow..... I think.....

LadyJogsAlot · 14/04/2008 22:12

Thanks for the welcome. I ran again today. That's 2 days in a row which is a huge achievement for me. I know the podcast guy says to have a day of rest in between but I was worried if I didn't go today that I would give up. The 1st week really isn't so bad, is it?

What happens if I run 3 days in a row? On the 4th day, do I start week 2, or do I do a whole week and 1 level?

Wheelybug · 15/04/2008 10:48

woo hoo - I did 3.25 miles !! Thanks to Ladyjogs for the cheering and to Minum for your tips about getting running again after a break. I mapped a 3.1 (5K) mile run and thought I'd walk if I needed to but keep the distance. I also made a conscious effort to slow my running down as I think that was causing issues and it really helped as I got near the end (could see my house) and added in another little loop to make it a bit longer. Took me 30 minutes.

Thanks gals - you're the tops !!

underrated - if you feel you can manage the next week on your 4th run, go for it ! Make sure you do have some rest days though . You're doing great !

Lottie - thanks for that site, I use www.mapmyrun.com which is virtually the same I think. MY bro used to live in East Dulwich, now he's in Peckham Rye. I'm over in South west London - between wimbledon and kingston.

Hi, underrated and Lottie in East Dulwich was it? you oth sound like you are doing really well.
Go Wheely and lady jogs I am so pleased you are getting back on track.
I need to make sure I go 3 times a week, it is more like 1 or 2 at the moment, after my second 5k my legs didn't ache at all the next day, I think 1 more 5k and then i may up it.
Have any of you looked back through the original thread from the beginining, I will have a look I bet it is really intersting to see how far we have all come.
Also please tell me that I can do 10k in Sep as I am thinking of pulling out but would let SIL down big time. I need to stop smoking!

Wheelybug · 15/04/2008 13:53

oh bum I just typed a whole long message to you dita about making 10k and lost it. The gist is that you are already doing 5k (3.1 miles) so just add a quarter of a mile a week (or sometimes two if you're finding it harder which you probably will some weeks) and you'll get to 10k. That's my plan as I inted doing a 10k in sept/oct. Here's the maths:

approx 20 weeks til September -
20 x 0.25 = 5 miles
already doing 3 miles
total = 8 miles
10k = 6.2 miles.

(once an accoutnant always an accountant).

So,easy peasy lemon squeezy (I hope).

Give up the smoking though too.

Lottie - think PR to ED is probably the better way to do it . Does that mean you're a media luvvie or is that just all my bro's friends that live round there

LOL Lottie - its only that my bro and SIL are media luvvies and a lot of their friends have moved that way who are likewise !

UnderRated · 15/04/2008 18:29

Thanks for the advice, Wheely. I can't run again til Friday but really feel the urge to go today. I have never actually wanted to run!

bramblebooks · 15/04/2008 18:37

It's fab isn't it! I'm really keen to do my 5k training tomorow ! Whether I'll feel the same about the 8k I plan to run on Fri once Friday morning dawns ...

SparklyPrincess · 15/04/2008 19:19

Yay! I've actually been out running today!

Really lost the plot for ages. Not going to make an excuse for myself, just lost it.

But did 7 reps of 1 min walk, 2 min run this evening (apart from the one that was up a big hill ;-) - will try to perservere next time!)

Next scheduled trip is Thursday. Can't remember what I said I'd be doing! Maybe I'll give Rawb a go - have to have a look where I could jump in. Probably week 1!

Send me some motivational vibes please!

SP xx

Furball · 15/04/2008 20:50

just been out for 5km. Started sleeting half way round but carried on thinking I can't get any more wet than having to run home so might as well continue. Thats it now til Saturday. Then next week I can go at 8.30 am again when ds goes back to school

well done sparkly for getting back to it.

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 16/04/2008 09:09

Wheely, thanks for that, it seems so huge in one lump but if you break it down it doesn't look that bad.
Furball, well done on running in the sleet, we had hail here yesterday and I chickened out.
Sparkly, sending you motivational vibes.
Underrated isn't it great.
And lottie it must be a bit posher running round where you are than my local park then.
I will hopefully get out tonight do 1 more 5k and then up it. will have to up it more than .25 thought as one lap of my local park is 1 mile. Going to have a look on good run guide.
