well done Idris... just think in 7 weeks time you'll be running for 20 minutes .

paddington99 · 11/04/2008 12:50

This is a very impressive plan Wheelybug. Have you been running long or are you fairly new to it like me?

Itsthawooluff · 11/04/2008 14:17

Go Idris bach!

Bracing myself for next Sunday - 25 minutes. And from there on, no walking! I hope Rawbert's music will carry on hypnotising me

[Wanders off muttering "I feel no pain, I feel no pain" under breath]

bramblebooks · 11/04/2008 16:36

You go girl! Don't forget to 'warm down' at the end with some gentle stretching.

Oh wow wooluff, good luck.

If we can do childbirth, we can do running

Had a good run today - have found my secret weapon: freshly brewed black coffee before a run!

bramblebooks · 11/04/2008 16:39

Thanks for the shoulder tips wooluf. I warm my shoulders up (as well as knees!) and have a good stretch out too.

Today was a 7k day sooooooo proud!

I've been doing the neck and shoulders yoga from the yogamazing podcast (which I found via itunes - it's a free download). This has helped - but I really think the shoulder pain is handbag related!!!!!!!

spamm · 11/04/2008 21:04

Hello everybody. I love coming back on here and finding out how everybody has done. Bramble - wow, 7K. That is great, well done. Wheely - what a plan, I am impressed!

I last went out on Monday, but could not go out on wednesday, as it was ds's 3rd birthday and I wanted to spend some time with him in the evening as I work ft.

Yesterday evening work went mad, so could not go out. But when I got home tonight I just forced myself to do it even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. I am sorry to boast, but I am so proud of myself, as I would not have done that a few weeks ago.

Anyway, I have done 2 weeks on week 1 podcast, so I now graduate to week 2. Wheehee!

Thank you all, it is soooo great to have you all here for support. I will let you know how I survive the next stage.

Furball · 12/04/2008 11:45

Been out first thing this morning for a quick 5k - love it.

OP posts:
debbiewebweb · 12/04/2008 13:20

I quick 5k - wow furball. I am full of cold so haven't gone out today, am hoping I'll be feeling more like it tomorrow morning, I can't afford to slip back now - only 4 weeks to my 5k.
Well done spamm - so you should feel proud of yourself

Minum · 12/04/2008 14:38

WB - that plan sounds fab, good luck, you'll be fantastic

This thread is so positive, I love reading it.

I've had a good week, been out with DS1, who has been on/off with his running, but he is coming on really well now. Looking forward to going back out on my own when they are back at school, and getting up to 5km, from the current 4km.

Wheelybug · 13/04/2008 17:44

Well done on the running everyone ! I have spent my weekend eating and drinking so totally undoing all the good work !

Thanks for all your positive thoughts on my grand plan - must get back to 3x a week running though.. starting on Tuesday !

paddington99 · 13/04/2008 21:11

Do I gather that there is a podcast available for running 5k? Sorry to be such an annoying newbie but where can I get it?

Wheelybug · 13/04/2008 21:15

here you go Paddington - They're so worth it !

I realise I didn't answer your earlier question - I started running using the podcasts in January, got up to 5k early March - its a great programme (think I might be brainwashed) !

Furball · 13/04/2008 21:36

been out for another 5K tonight as still school holidays so have to go when I can! Went with my own music, gosh one of them has a really fast beat - felt like I was sprinting. Still managed it though.

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 14/04/2008 08:53

I did another 5k yesterday, shaved 3 mins off my time and got it down to 30mins. it was a lot easier than the first time but i am only getting out twice a wekk due to general laziness, need to up to 3 times this is the week. Also desperatly need to stop smoking if I am to make it to 10k so have decided today is the day.
Everyone sounds like they are going really well, it is a lot easier now the weatjher is nicer isn't it.
By the way I am Cherry, sorry but needed a bit of a change.

Itsthawooluff · 14/04/2008 09:14

Hi - glad to hear its all going well. Did my first 25 on Sunday, and was high as a kite all day. Quads are a bit stiff but I didn't have time to stretch as had to take dd2 to ballet lesson for exams. Cue 15 immaculately turned out mothers and sweaty breathless me, still in running stuff as didn't have time to shower - need to work on the timing for that one!

IdrisTheDragon · 14/04/2008 11:05

I did my second run yesterday - and my legs aren't sore today

ditavonteesed · 14/04/2008 12:31

ewooluff, that would so be me.
Well done idris, my legs do hurt somewhat today.

paddington99 · 14/04/2008 12:48

Thanks for the link Wheelybug.

I've been going since January too, but can't do 5k non-stop yet. I'll give this a try.

bramblebooks · 14/04/2008 16:01

yay, 3k 'easy run' today - and it certainly wasn't as painful! Aiming for 8k on Fri (5k on Weds).

It's amazing how we can trot out these longer distances now that we've been training a while - distances that would have been far-distant hopes a few months ago

LadyJogsAlot · 14/04/2008 18:51

well i don't feel like i'm making progress at all.

am finding it difficult to run more than 5 mins at a time since i got out of routine

am going back to week 5 to pick up a bit of confidence.

will try to get out tonight...

Furball · 14/04/2008 19:14

ladyjogsalot - do you thnk you could be running too fast? if so might be worth slowing it down to give you the stamina to keep going

OP posts:
LadyJogsAlot · 14/04/2008 19:15

maybe.

don't know how fast to jog iykwim.
could def run more on rawbs prog than to my own moozac.

maybe my stuff is too fast.

Furball · 14/04/2008 19:24

well if yu are running to fast - don't accidently put this on your ipod cos I was sprinting to keep up. did me good though.

OP posts:
Minum · 14/04/2008 19:35

Went back and ran week 4 again tonight, to support a friend - really enjoyed it, and we did a bit of sprinting in the last 5 minutes which was good, and made me realise how much I've progressed. I cant run fast, and for long stretches though, so wont touch the track above

LadyJogsAlot - I had real problems a few weeks ago when I'd missed a few runs, and couldnt get back to where I was, and got really frustrated. I maintained the length of run I was on before, but slipped a few walks into the run, and after a couple of outings, was back to my previous levels - you'll be back really quickly I'm sure. Also, earlier when I was having problems I completely rethought my music, to tracks I loved more, and this got me progressing again.

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 19:39

Hello All

I started yesterday. It may very well not last, but I did the first podcast and it felt good I did it on the running machine though which actually worked quite well. I did 2 miles I am not a runner. But could be converted.
