For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

In both senses of the word, Franny

Glad you sorted out the Doula - what happened? I could check on the other thread, couldn't I? [lazy]

ladywombling · 19/02/2008 21:58

, hello all, have completely lost the plot with what is going on with you all, hope everyone is well. Mrs C hope tomorrow is ok. Come back soon Zippi.

How is Johnny Jet 100? Boco, I bet you could take a friend, no probs.

Franny, glad you sorted out the perfume thing.

I am contantly full of a cold ATM< despite the F&V, I have a permanent sore throat, and bad sinuses, and my nose keeps bleeding. Has anyone gotr any bright ideas, I feel like I need a boost or a tonic or something, what is compatible with bfing?

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 08:17

Hello wombling, thanks for email, will reply soon!

I take elder berry extract and Kiki superfood and AFAIK they are both compatible with bf and pg, They really boost your immune system and worked wonders for me last year when I was quite physically low

banana, raisins, blueberries, apple

UR I just said I get v sensitive to perfume when pg and she said she would not wear it for the month she is on call for me!

Good luck MrsC

Anorak you are an inspiration, you always sound so cheeful and upbeat when you must be feeling so rough and quite likely scared too.

Your doula sounds ever lovlier Franny, possible BO notwithstanding of course.

UnderRated - great name change

Struggling with f&v atm. Must do better. Had pasta in tomatoeymushroomey sauce yesterday for tea and that was it.

Tatties · 20/02/2008 13:09

Gosh you have talked a lot

Thinking of you MrsC

Littlerach when is your birthday?

anorak · 20/02/2008 13:15

Ah thanks tiger. I am feeling v tired and washed out just lately with the chemo - you know that slight but lingering headache you get when iron levels are low?

I know F&Z you will not approve but I have started eating meat again after 25 years cos I am desperate to raise my blood count. One simple household task like cleaning the floors and I am on my knees and actually in pain.

What are the best foods for both red and white cell boost? I need to really work on this as I still have 17 more weeks of chemo to go.

Tatties · 20/02/2008 13:24

Wishing you lots of strength Anorak

pinkspottywellies · 20/02/2008 15:37

I'll miss Zippi I always picture her and read her posts in her voice (for some reason I don't do it with everyone who I've met ).

MrsC Hope your day's been ok - skimmed thread and caught the bit about meeting at school and colposcopy... bummer.

Boco, your 'do' sounds fab. I'm sure you can bring a friend bring me.

Franny I hope you and that bump are doing well.

We've had carrot and lentil soup today (amongst other veg and fruit type items) I had a cookathon the other day and made lentil bolognese, carrot soup and broccoli soup DH ate the bolognese but suggested it might be improved with the addition of meat He doesn't really embrace lentils

My sister's coming to see us at the weekend We're going to be healthy and thrifty together. Running and eating cheap, good for us stuff, rather than our usual MO of drinking pink wine and eating rubbish in front of the tv!

pinkspottywellies · 20/02/2008 15:40

By the way, I love the title!

IdrisTheDragon · 20/02/2008 15:50

Hello. Seem to have missed this thread starting.....have no idea how that happened .

I have had good amounts of F&V so far today.

And it nearly home time. 10 min to go .

IdrisTheDragon · 20/02/2008 16:00

Underated, were you once on the September 05 ante/post natal threads? Noticed your DS is 3 in September (as is DD) and I seem to remember someone on the thread who either was you or was very similar in many respects .

filthymindedvixen · 20/02/2008 16:02

I am still fretting slightly about Zippi - but I could feel she was getting frustrated with herself and possibly using MN as an excuse for not getting on and doing stuff. I do know that feeling well!

Franny glad you spoke to doula and she was nice. I was so smell sensitive with both my pgs. I remember throwing up on a train (and I didn't get Morning isckness) beacuase it was very crowded and I could not escape the smell of cheese and onion crisps from someone near

C&O smell still makes me feel sick 10 years later!

I have been eating all osrts of fabulous specialtiy breads thanks to a friend who has a job in the best tea-shop in the world. And simnel cake and hot cross buns and choc cake.....

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 17:30

oh god, I forgot it was your colposcopy also MrsC. I hope you are doing ok and that you check in soon.

I am so hungry I am shaking slightly. Dp is bringing stew and basmati rice imminently I am assured

I didn't have my scan I cancelled it. I am just going to have a 36 week position scan. Gosh.

OP posts:
Boco · 20/02/2008 17:37

Why did you cancel it Franny? Were you anxious about it or anything?

MrsC, hope today wasn't too awful, poor you.

lullabyloo · 20/02/2008 17:51

hello lovely ones
my grandparents are here so we have been tootling about the kent countryside visiting castles & things

lullabyloo · 20/02/2008 17:53

Franny,why did you cancel?
Zippi...I hope you are ok
Mrs C...thinking of you,do so hope everything is ok

love to everyone else
will check in tomorrow properly hopefully

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 17:59

it was the anomaly scan and the more I thought about it, the more I felt I did not want to know about any anomalies at this stage

I am pregnant
I intend to stay pregnant
I don't feel I need any extra information right now.

have heard MANY stories about problems discovered at scans, and the nightmare scenarios that followed. Sometimes a period of awful uncertainty, sometimes stress and worry that was described as 'ruining the pregnancy', sometimes completely wrong diagnoses made on perfectly healthy babies.

I felt I had to go along with it in part because of getting co-operation for a possible home birth. In part because I do want to know placenta position. In part because dp said he wanted the reassurance. But have talked to midwife and scanning dept today and they say I don't need to have this at all if I don't want to, and can come in for placental position scan at 36 weeks. Dp still slightly ambivalent, but we can still organise an anomaly scan once we have had more time to talk it / think it over. Am glad I didn't just go along with it today despite these huge misgivings about the whole process.

littlerach · 20/02/2008 18:05

F&Z, they are good reasons.
I remember refusing osme blood tests with dd1, and the mw looking at me, and I had to explain that even if the baby had soem "abnormaility" then i would be keeping it.

Tatties, it is my birthsday omn Sunday. The day after Franny's cake and tea meet up, so you must all have cake for me!!

Still ahven't sdued the hoover

We have been to a friend's all day, and she made us a delicious cous cous lunch. Followed by choc brownies (my contribution!)

lionheart · 20/02/2008 18:21

Franny, I have emailed you about cake.

FrannyandZooey · 20/02/2008 18:21

aw no, that sounds bad

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 20/02/2008 18:24

Mrs C, in case I don't 'see' you later, hoping your day wasn't too hideous....

Greensleeves · 20/02/2008 18:31

filthymindedvixen · 20/02/2008 18:33
